Stephen Curry opening the 2016 season on fire

Wed Oct 28, 2015 1:34 pm

24 points at the end of the first quarter, 9/13 from the field, 4/7 from downtown. The way things started out, I expect that overheard fling from half court to go in.

For the record, the most points scored on opening night in the last 35 years is 54, by Michael Jordan back in 1989. MJ also scored 50 in the Bulls' opener in 1986. Curry's got a good start on that.

Nate Robinson got into early foul trouble. Then Ish came off the bench to face Curry. Not to take anything away from Stephen but opponents were too weak.

True, it's not the best defense he's ever faced. All the same, hot shooting is hot shooting.

33 points and counting, early in the third.

Yeah, it's still incredible performance to begin the season.

Looking back at 2009 draft, was intriguing. It included busts like #2 Thabeet and #6 Flynn but Curry was a steal at #7 and Harden at #3 was nice. Curry vs Harden discussion is all good to go. I can't wait for Harden's first game as well.

He ends with 40, the most points by a reigning MVP on opening night, for what it's worth. Game got kinda sloppy in the fourth, though.

While Curry was hot, The Brow was not. 4/20 from the field, and he looked to be trying to do too much out there, as well as taking too many shots beyond midrange.

Amazing performance by the reigning MVP. 40 points in 28 minutes, right? Damn.

PS: Still not a fan of this new system but eh.

It's actually the old/original system, not a new system. ;) However, I'm still mulling the options based on the feedback in the previous thread.

Looked good stat wise and the quick recap but I expect nothing less from Curry theses days!

How stupid was Monta Ellis for wanted out because he believed he shouldn't have to share the back court with another scorer!

I'd say he did them a favour in the long run.

I remember a thread discussing these overrated players who might end up in China. Iirc Monta and Melo were mentioned back then as strong candidates.

That's why I think Dallas getting rid of Ellis is addition by subtraction.

Possibly. I think Ellis is a talented player, someone who can put points up on the board, albeit not with the most efficiency. Players like that can find a place in the league, and they can even be a part of successful teams. But it's not the worst thing in the world for the Mavericks that he moved on.

He is averaging 35 PPG in only 32 MPG. Ridiculous.

I'm guessing his numbers will drop off a little, but he could have a season for the ages, with his shooting, efficiency, and scoring output.

2 MVP seasons in a row? That'd be a helluva feat for such young kid. He'd join list of greatest.

I didn't think he 105% deserved it last year but this year at this pace, no doubt. Possibly we could be seeing dynasty warriors too. This is disgusting as they're extremely young team. Remember last year we discussed how they were one of the best teams in recent history. Shit that will be beaten this year by themselves.
