Same here. As I said before, it's not because I hate the Nets or anything but I'm just fascinated to see how badly they can finish and whether we'll finally see the record for futility topple.

Agreed. It's fascinating/amazing watching history while it happens. :)

Doesn't mean we hate them. :P

I honestly think most of their fans want to see them break the record, just for fun.

Nets beat the Clippers (unsurprising) to "improve" to 4-40, putting them on pace for 7.4 wins. I don't know guys, I think they'll probably get 10 wins or so.

Quite possible, a couple more wins before the All-Star break and they'll be in good position to avoid beating the record. However,
with the losing streaks they've had so far, if they're still at four wins come All-Star Weekend then I think they're still in the running.

Nets on the verge of making history?

Postby atlwarrior on Wed Feb 10, 2010 1:07 pm

The worst team in NBA history was the 1972-73 76ers at 9-73. Who knows! Maybe the Nets will break that record. They've already broken the record of most consecutive losses in a row. I think its a possibility. They are currently 4-46! What do you guys think?

4-47 after today's loss to the Cavs. I still think they've got a very good chance of beating or at least equalling the Sixers' all-time mark for futility, they're currently on pace to finish with six wins. As mentioned before, perhaps they rattle off a few victories late in the season when playoff teams are resting their stars and their fellow lottery teams are phoning it in, but with the way they've continued to lose even against similarly weak opponents and after getting players back from injury, it really wouldn't surprise me if they kept up their current pace on route to a new record.

They'll probably regress back towards the mean as the season finishes. The 1993 Mavericks and 1973 Sixers were also both 4-47 after 51 games. (1998 Nuggets were 5-46, 1971 Cavaliers were 6-45.) This team still isn't as bad as the 1993 Mavericks were and they managed to win 11 games.

If they don't regress back towards their pythag, then it'll be be something interesting.

What an achievement, we might witness a significant foot print in history of NBA from Nets. I'm starting to believe they're actually their record good so hope to see them keep it up.

If true, I can see why Rick wants back in the NBA - the Nets have a chance at John Wall and a top free agent.

This post at the DN site says it all:

"Plenty of good Italian Resturants in New York, New Jersey for Rick to bang his girl friends in. Maybe he can get some tips from Corzine, Spitzer and The Accidental Govenor on who to date".

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It was a sad sight in a sorry season.

In front of about 1,000 fans, the New Jersey Nets lost for the 48th time before the All-Star break, trounced 97-77 by the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
Andrew Bogut scored 22 points and Ersan Ilyasova added 18 for Milwaukee.
A storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on the New York region kept the crowd at the IZOD Center to a turnstile count of 1,016, most of whom moved to the courtside seats and the first few rows of the lower bowl.
"Fans couldn't get out, but it was tough to generate energy you need in a situation like this. Unfortunately we didn't," Nets forward Jarvis Hayes said.

Up close, the few fans in attendance saw the Bucks shoot 50 percent against the worst team in the league.

It wasn't just because they suck that bad, weather played a role as well for so little crowd.

That can't have been a fun night for the Nets. I'm sure they heard every taunt and jeer as the Bucks pulled away in the second half. 4-48.

Funnily enough, they've picked up their first victory after the All-Star break against the Bobcats as well.

6-52 after a road victory over the Celtics. They're slowly edging away from the record but give them another double digit losing streak and I think it's still got a chance of happening.

Ok this should be a wake up call for Boston. Its a complete mess there right now. There was absolutely no excuse for this loss. Even if Paul Pierce is missing come on... THE NETS! I just cannot believe theyre playing this bad. First they got swept by the Hawks for the season series, lose to the Hornets w/o Chris Paul, then they got embarassed by the Nuggets, blew a fifteen point lead against Cleveland and lost by 20, and now the NETS!!! Things just keep getting worse and worse in Boston. I thought they were just going thru a phase but IDK anymore.

Just 2 years ago, this team looked pretty formidable, but now they look somewhat vulnerable. Other than Rondo taking more responsibilities, I think the big 3 are sort of relaxed a bit with the ring.

I don't think KG's been able to get back to the level he was at in 2008 following all his injury problems the last couple of years. The energy, the explosiveness and the freakish athleticism just aren't there as age, injuries and all those minutes he's racked up in the last fifteen years have taken their toll.

So they just beat the Celtics in Boston. Means the dreams of both the Nets breaking the record, and the Celtics winning the championship are all but dead.

7-57

18 games remaining ( 1 more vs CHA)

2-8 in their last 10 games, they may not be the worst ever after all.. only time will tell!

It does look like they'll avoid tying or beating the record, though I wouldn't be greatly surprised if they picked up just one or two more wins amidst a couple of losing streaks. I could still see them barely escaping the record though with 10-12 wins, the earlier prediction of 15 seems a little optimistic at the moment.
