Interesting choice with the Judges. Will be good to see Jordan down on the bench. I think Tyrus Thomas will suprise a lot of people.

Yeah, nobody's heard of James White, so why would they want him in advertisements for the contest?

Gerald should win, but I think he'll beat Dwight in the finals because Thomas isn't much more than a power dunker and Nate would need 36 attempts to put one down - thank god for the new 2-minute rule.

alot of people have heard of james white especially after his march midnight madness dunk 2 yrs ago

I'm more excited about the judges than the participants :|

Is this the 1st time an active players are judges?

Tue Feb 06, 2007 1:49 pm

I actually think this dunk contest is going to be really good.

Nate Robinson: Its always entertaining to see a little guy get up like he does, and the new rule Big Kaboom mentioned will rule out anything like last year happening again, even though I didn't mind it.

Tyrus Thomas: I think this guy will be really fun to watch. If any of you guys watched him in college, he gets really fired up. He's probably gonna try tear the rim down with a vicious windmill or something like that. He has a huge vertical also.

Gerald Green: Finesse, sheer athleticism. His dunk on Jerome James is one of my favorites. The guy has huge ups and could probably throw down any dunk he liked. He is just going to need to put some power into his dunks when hes going against guys like Dwight and Tyrus.

Dwight Howard: Seeing a big guy throw own guard like dunks is a lot of fun to watch. Green may get higher on a certain dunk, but Dwight will power it in which adds to the whole effect. Its not like he can't jump very high though, he definitely has a big vert.

Judges: Best judges in my recent memory. Guys that really know what to expect of these guys and how to grade them.

Overall I think this dunk contest is going to be awesome (Y)

I'm not talking about hardcore basketball fans, but about the average casual NBA fan.

He's probably gonna try tear the rim down with a vicious windmill or something like that.

If Darvin Ham who had experience at that didn't do it when he was in the contest Thomas stands no chance.

I doubt if Robinson can nail 1 dunk with a time limit; what was it 17 tries on 1 dunk?

Green and Howard will have the altimate battle of finesse vs power and who ever wins will be the champ.

Tue Feb 06, 2007 2:44 pm

i think Tyrus will suck balls in the Slam Dunk contest from what i've seen, of course i could be wrong. Nate and Gerald will dominate, not sure about Dwight, the career dunks clip on NBA.com isn't working for him, but Thomas' was shit, nothing special, maybe he's got something up his sleeve?...

Tue Feb 06, 2007 4:22 pm

who ever wins will be the champ.

No shit?

It is.

That's a decent field of competitors for the dunk contest though I would've preferred James White over Dwight Howard. I guess you need the token big man in there and it's not like Howard's unathletic and incapable of throwing down entertaining dunks but White would seem much more likely to pull some truly amazing out of the bag.

Excellent choices with the judges, each a former dunk contest winner. Best of all, Kenny Smith will be left sulking in the TNT booth. About time they included some active players as judges too.

Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:00 pm

i want Tyrus to win the contest! but he probably won't! so my second man at that contest gonna be Green! idon't think howard would show smth extra!

Because he is the best dunker on the planet, and even though nobody has heard of him yet, nba.com would be flooded by people looking for replays of his "between the legs from the free throw line"-dunk after he would have won the contest.

If anybody in here doesn't know James White yet, take a look at thisvideo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwxA-pHhVwI

So, who doesn't think he should have been in there instead of Tyrus Thomas?

Anyway, I still like the contestants they have picked. My prediction is that Green and Howard will be in the finals. Thomas will suck, and Nate will be snubbed in the first round, because none of the judges want to be compared to Kenney Smith afterwards.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 12:29 am

Yes, Tyrus got in. I expected, tahat Green will get in. Howard really wanted to get in himself.. I think it will be interesting. I hope, that Tyrus wins, but i think that Green will win it..

Wed Feb 07, 2007 12:59 am

Tyrus doesnt sound motivated

I told you guys!! And that was before they were announced

Yeah Tyrus is really downplaying the fact that he's competing in the dunk contest.

Tyrus Thomas downplayed his excitement in being in the slam dunk contest on Monday night when he was asked about it.

"Not really," Thomas said. "I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day."

"I'm just into the free money," he said when asked if he thought fraternizing with the great dunk champs of years past could be of benefit to him. "That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

What a turd.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:19 am

James White doesnt deserve to be in the dunk contest cos he hasnt played a fucking minute of nba basketball. End of discussion

Here. Have a cookie.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:45 am

I now hope Tyrus Thomas injures himself in the dunk contest.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:59 am

I'm predicting this: Someone will attempt the "double dunk" from NBA Street Homecourt.

Wed Feb 07, 2007 7:02 am

Whats the "Double Dunk"?

Wed Feb 07, 2007 7:15 am

"I'm just into the free money," Tyrus Thomas said. "That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

Wow. What a jerk. Goin to Slam dunk contest for money. As far as I know he will put simple dunks (windmill, two handed, reverse...). If he does this he'll be worse than Tim Perry.
