yep true. the core wasn't in place when jordan was drafted. krause was hired the year jordan's arrival and his job was to build around him, despite the belief that champions cannot be built around a shooting guard

problem w/atkins is that he's not nba starter caliber

and what does it mean when you say kobe will get 'it'? he can pass the ball all he wants, the lakers will be a marginal playoff team at best until they upgrade mihm & bgrant

if we're talking now about extremely poor mans' versions of the bulls, then we may as well mention boston's paul pierce and anotine walker and the rest of the celts as well or any all star guard & versatile duo for that matter

Thanks for ruining for fun, Limp! :(

To me though, it's not just any all-star guard and versatile player duo. Kobe Bryant, though not the second-coming, is the closest emulation to Michael Jordan's style/swagger/demeaner/whateveryouwannacallit. Odom, on the other hand, has an offensive game that will shine through the triangle offense -- much like Pippen.

Same coach.

Same offense.

It would be silly not to point out the (extremely) poor-man's resemblance.

It's always good to have Horse-face|33 around (Y).

Both Pippen & Jordan became defenders after PJ took over. During the Doug Collins era Jordan was pure offense.

Pippen had no game to speak of (offense or defense) before he got to the Bulls, for a NBA 50 Greatest, he didn't even start his rookie year and averaged a ferocious 8 ppg 4 rpg 2 apg off the bench. More than any of the Bulls he was a product of Jackson/Winters/Bach.

If i was Jackson & Winters, i could see them looking at the Lakers and saying "heck, we can turn this around."

Yeah, that's why Jordan won his only DPOY award during the Collins era...

First, he was with the Bulls from the start -- drafted by Seattle, but traded on draft day I believe. Krause was high on him from the start. Also, what's the point in bashing a guy off of his rookie year? I can name other greats with equal or worse rookie years than Pippen's. Ferocious? Don't think so. I wouldn't call Pippen a product of Jackson, especially since he showed steady improvement in his second year with Collins. But Pippen's skills were utilized best in the triangle, unlike Collins' "The Michael Jordan Show."

Michael Jordan wasn't just offense before Phil Jackson took over, as GloveGuy said he was actually the DPOY under Collins, twice recording 200+ steals/100+ blocks seasons. One might say his defense improved as he lowered his scoring output though. Pippen was also a fine player upon entering the league, but was stuck behind Brad Sellers in the rotation, whom the Bulls were very high on at that point (mad as it may be).
