Well I expect teh Spurs to play better in game 2 as I do the Pistons but I expect the Spurs to play better offensively and defensively, they started off rocky and got themselves in ttrouble as Parker took several ill advised shots in transition.
Detroit needs to establish a post game(consistent) but defensively I don't know if they can do better, maybe have fresher legs I guess. Ginobili just went off. Tay can't guard him, I watched it close and wanted to see if Tay would atleast bother him but in all honesty I think Tay can't guard him but we'll know by the end of game 3.

if tay did guard mcgrady once IMO he can step it up a notch or two against manu

I didn't see Hamilton get involved enough, most of the time I saw him standing around in the corner, rather than running around picks and trying to rub Bowen off screens. Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention.
But the Pistons were doin alright in the first half and they just collapsed at the end of the 3rd and totally lost it in the 4th. That and Ginobili had an amazing 4th quarter(some random Spurs fan couple named their kid Ginobili and some other Spurs fan had a Obi Wan Ginobili sign, I'm guessing that was COOLmac?

)
Rasheed wasn't involved enough, he had a nice start in the 1st quarter, but he just kinda faded after that.
Although, I must admit this game was better than I expected.
LOL@ Ben Wallace, pulling a Rasheed and throwing his headband on the floor, I have a feeling that if Larry Brown just banned his team from wearing headbands, they won't get technicals... unless Rip throws his mask.
Fri Jun 10, 2005 7:53 pm
haha, but you could see why Ben was pissed off.
Anyways, the Pistons weak point has been the 4th quarter this season, as i've mentiond repeatedly which is why it's hard to get excited when the team is winning in the 4th. They play their best when they are losing.....in this game they managed to fight back from 18 down to 1 down with 3 mins to go. That however won't do, Spurs are way too good for a fluctuating performance on the Pistons part.
Game 2 should see better performances from Detroit, especially Dice who is usually consistent and knocks down jumpers. I guess Finals jitters.
Can't believe Manu went from being irrelevent most of the game (he started 2-7 or something) to dominating. Damn thie 4th quarter.
Ben Wallace still needs to come out of his shell.

Manu's penetration + layup looked ugly.. but it was very effective...
Do you agree?

The difference is McGrady is not as quick(although quick) as Manu and would serve better posting Tay because he's (McGrady) is about 6'10 where as Manu is 6'6. Different players with different strengths & weakness that can be exploited over a period of 48 minutes. We'll see in the next two games what will happen in this matchup but I suspect Manu will win out in the end.

lol, it is kinda ugly, but there's a certain flair to it the way he twists around and pulls off those circus shots.

indeed, although T-Mac is better than Ginobili by a mile, Ginobili's style is better suited to break Prince down. Ginobili is a relentless driver which is Prince's weakness as Richard Jefferson has proven. T-Mac though is one of those players that will eventually settle for jumpers when things dont go his way....that was Kobe's mistake last season.

It was a damn good game until the 4th quarter.. I was disgusted by the Pistons performance then
That blocking foul they called on Ben Wallace (which clearly should have been an offensive foul on Ginobili) really turned the game around- the Pistons were down 55-53 at the time and afterward the Spurs went on a 19-2 run.
It was really an important call though (not to complain and be a whiner) as it should have been Detroit's possession down by 2 with a chance to tie or take the lead, but ended up a 5 point lead after the Spurs hit the free throw and made another shot with their possession.

I'm not sure about that other than this fact, McGarady is probably 6'10 and can handle the ball, on every team he's been on(minus Toronto of course) he has to be far more aggressive on offense and take far more shot on a consistent basis, Manu has the luxury of having Tim to run the offense through night in and out. I think Manu is capable of a consitent 25 pt. per game on most other teams plus he puts A+ effort every night on both ends of the floor and has proven that when he is upset he can make things happen on both end of the floor. I give McGrady the edge but only before his Height makes him harder for anyone at the same position to guard and he is gifted to do it but Manu is not as far behind him as you and most people who love star players taking large amounts of shots(spoiled by Jordan) think.

BTW, Tracy McGrady is 6'8.
Sat Jun 11, 2005 2:40 am
That's what he's listed as, I think he's around 6'10 in reality.

dan_suth wrote:BTW, Tracy McGrady is 6'8.
I know that he is listed at 6'8 but I think he is closer to 6'10, I based that on hearing players, ex. Duncan state that as well as those around the league have made similiar statements that he is closer to 6'10 than 6'8 but either way he is considerably tall with a wide wing span for someone player that position,
especially in comparison to Ginobili.
Sun Jun 12, 2005 3:47 am
Unless he had a growth spurt since he was drafted (very possible w/ a high schooler) he's probably a legit 6' 8". In the draft reports, he was listed in Mt Zion Christian as 6' 8" 200lbs and measured at 6' 7" 180 lbs.
But in the NBA, everyone gets 1" and are rounded up, so almost everyone is listed 2" taller than than real height. Jordan was 6' 4", barkley was 6' 4", etc.
If Ginobli is listed at 6' 6" he's probably 6' 4". McGrady seems to be an actual 6' 8", which is why there's such a huge height difference between T-Mac and other guards.
Edit: it's hilarious looking at these old scouting reports...one guy thought he was a total dud...he compared McGrady as a weak, smaller KG without any post skills...very poor ball-handling...didn't see him able to play anything but paint positions in the NBA.
One guy thought he was a great athlete with good transition game but poor shooting & defense.
One guy loved him, said he was a future star, better athlete than VC or Eddie Jones, could out-play Lamar Odom, must pick.
Well 1 out of 3 ain't bad.

Tim Duncan finals MVP.
No way! Tim Duncan sucks and he's overrated! I don't care who wins the finals but if the Spurs win, Tony Parker will get the finals MVP. If the Pistons win, then Ben Wallace will get the finals MVP. These are my guesses but I
HATE Tim Duncan.
Sun Jun 12, 2005 8:48 am
Are you on drugs? Just because you hate Tim Duncan doesn't mean he sucks or he's overrated. He's probably the most fundamentally sound player in the game today, and his presence on the court plays a huge role.
Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:32 pm
He probably is on drugs. How can you say Tim Duncan is overrated?? By who?

And how the FUCK can you say he sucks?? How old are you??
Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:43 pm
I guess someone who is a
-2 time Season MVP
-2 Time NBA Champion
- 2 time finals MVP
- all star every year even rookie
-double double average every year
- All NBA and All NBA Defensive player every year
must suck
( shit duncan might be the best PF all time just looking at those stats when all is said and done

)

Duncan sucks ass, his 24 & 17 had absolutely nothing to do with a Game 1 win and he somehow managed to fluke himself into 8 straight all-star games and 2 championships. Lucky for Detroit that Spurs are starting Duncan and not Rasho otherwise this series would have been over before it starterd.

You almost came off as convincing on the last one.

LOL how can you say Duncan sucks ass. Yeah "Mr.Fundamental" isn't the most entertaining to watch but look at the guys stats man. Rasho?? LOL...you can't even compare the level of talent between Duncan and Nesterovic. Must be one hell of a fluke to get 8 straight all-star appearances and 2 rings then eh?
Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:40 pm
I think Matt was being just a tiny bit sarcastic.

yep....us Aussies (and Kiwis) are a very sarcastic bunch....

Game 2 = owned!!!
Richard Hamilton = shut down! Missed regular shots, normal things didn't go his way (like missed layups) and then add the several times he got blocked!
McDyess and Billups were the 2 best players on Detroit.
I didn't know Horry could drive like that!
Horry = 42 3pt fg made in playoffs = tied 1st w/ MJ

Mmmm...yea
Ginobili? That was a great game, Ginoibli is a monster, him and Duncan are just killer. The Pistons brought it down near the end, but the Spurs drive and dish game relinquished all hope.
