I feel sorry for you guys when yao becomes a bust.

Thanks, man  . We'll open a topic in like 10 years about how Yao became a bust

Tue Feb 24, 2004 11:01 am

yao... is... good...

I'm sick and tired of ppl saying freakishly tall people should dominate..
let's see...
Manute Bol, Muresan, Bradley... and several guys who were 7'8" and there was the North Korean Rhee Myung Hoon who was 7'10" and didn't make the cut... SUCKED

The NBA has finally found a freakishly tall guy who comes with talent.. that's just how it is folks.. you can't really argue that

Tue Feb 24, 2004 11:52 am

7' 11" (2.42m)

Sultan Kosen (Turkey)

is tallest ever.

Tue Feb 24, 2004 12:05 pm

uh... okay your point?

Tue Feb 24, 2004 12:26 pm

mark nordstrom, all your arguements are pretty much forced, your point of view jumps around through out your posts, they don't make sense, you can't focus on a specific standing point and you rely on statements like:
Mark Nordstrom wrote:I feel sorry for you guys when yao becomes a bust.

you can believe whatever you want to believe, you can live in your own fantasy world where yao ming is a bust

but you can't change the fact that yao ming is good... hell... you can't even convince the people in this forum

Tue Feb 24, 2004 12:56 pm

you can't start going "what if he is this height"
I'm pretty sure Earl Boykins woulda been a big time all-star if he was 6'9 instead of 5'9..

with that speed and shooting?

Yao can be the most dominating player in the league in the next 5-6 years.. most dominating players ever? he'll need to improve A LOT the next few years to do that..
AND NO ONE will have Wilt's #'s during his prime.. no one will avg 48.5 mins a game in the NBA.

To me, a dominate player in the NBA is one who can dominate the game to the point where the team wins.. MJ wasn't the most dominating def force ever, he was just 1 of the best guard defenders.. But it was his offensive game that set him apart from the other MVP candidates.. He could score easily from midrange with ease...

Yao with his height advantage and great shooting tough.. it is soo easy for him to score in the post.. He is also 7'6 , he doesn't get his hands on the ball for blocks as often as he could but he does change MANY MANY shots.. He is more of an impact defender than a stats defender..
Yao is a good player now, an all-star, he didn't deserve to start over Shaq... But he is definetly an All-star.

To say he will be the best ever is kinda exaggerated. He'll be an all-star impact player, an mvp candidate... Seeing his desire compare to many other nba greats, he is far far behind in that catagory but he does have the lead by being 7'6 over any great players in the league.

i wonder where Mark Nordstrom went :(
his blabberings will surely be missed
amen

i think Harris will help him to improve his defence more & more better in the summer..

Thu Feb 26, 2004 1:00 am

Well after seeing Spurs vs Rockets today
i think he needs the ball more!
i mean this guy is good enough to get 25+ ppg now!
he just needs to get touches.
i got s osick and tired of seeing them dump it into him while in bad position, then he would pass back out, get into position, and they would swing to the top or wing for a dumbass 3 or a out of control drive!

if the rockets gave up the ball a little more to Yao, then he'd be great already.

Thu Feb 26, 2004 3:59 pm

yeah rockets are yao's team now.
steve needs to stop being selfish and start gettin the ball to yao.
he's their best chance to score.

they should look into trading steve ... cuz his style of play wont help rockets win games

Thu Feb 26, 2004 5:56 pm

Yao will never score 25ppg a season. When he does ill shutup. BUT HE WONT.

Why ??? He does not shoot enough, He does not like to shoot alot, Also he has not showed he can carry a team.

Wilt and Russell are estimated by everyone from back in the day to have blocked at least 8 shots a game and more in their primes.
He sure can get 8 blocks a game if he gets stronger and tougher.

Strength and toughness don't have much of an effect on shot blocking...it's all about the timing...the timing...
All he needs to do is deliver for his team and win championships. That is what defines greatness.

Will Perdue > Karl Malone, Elgin Baylor, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexer, and Charles Barkley combined?
If Wilt Chamberlain was playing today, he wouldnt even average 40 ppg.

He would average 41.6 points per game.
But if Yao was playing back in those days ... u can bet he'd score 50 points, grab 30 boards, and block 20 shots.

I'm glad someone isn't biased. Yao would get about 22ppg, 12rpg and 2.2bpg.

if the rockets gave up the ball a little more to Yao, then he'd be great already.

He is great already...if Shaq had retired in 2002 like he promised Yao would be the best Center in the league...provided Duncan wasn't slid over to Center...

So you're saying the Rockets are currently being carried by the inconsistent, turnover-prone, low-efficiency Steve Francis with his 40% FG percentage? Oh yeah, definitely, when he and Mobley were the show in Houston without Yao's help, the Rockets had some great success, which of course led them to land a first draft pick. Mmm-hmm.

There should be absolutely no question in anyone's mind right now that Yao is the most valuable player on the Houston Rockets right now, and that HE is the one that's carrying them on the playoffs-bound road.

Drexler had one, Will Perdue wasn't that good.

Yao

Yao is a good player, he is alot better than people thought he would be. He is a far cry from Muresan, he actually has basketball skills. Yao has to learn to be a beast inside and become agressive, he has good post moves but he is not strong enough yet. When he gets stronger and developes the instinct to go for peoples necks, watch out. But in no way can he be mentioned with The Diesel, Shaq is the most dominating player of his era. Yao is far from that.
