Arenas pulls plug on comedy routine (column)

Story has changed.

Last Thursday, after practice in Washington, Arenas told SPORTS ILLUSTRATED that the real reason he sat out wasn't, as he originally told reporters, to rest his thrice-surgically-repaired knee, nor was it the excuse he gave the next day, that he wanted to give backup point guard Nick Young the chance to play. "I was really scared of getting booed," says Arenas. "It's a little crazy because I was here with Kwame Brown when Kwame was scared to go out there. I used to be like, Man, it's just boos. Now here I was six years later, and I was him. I was scared to go out there."

He should've just left that one alone.

A person close to Arenas said Stern's suspension might have been a blessing in disguise, saving Arenas from further condemnation. He had apparently scripted an even more elaborate -- and uncouth -- opening for the next night in Cleveland, in which he would affect a gimp-legged walk like John Wayne and draw at 10 paces with Young, his also-playful teammate.

He just doesn't seem to think before he says or does these things. There's no filter, no sense of good judgement, no pause to think "This mightn't be the best idea".

I think that would have been pretty neat.

Stern and the rest of the NBA higher-ups need to get the stick out of their ass.

Same with all the other bedwetters who whine when players have fun or show the "wrong" emotions. It really offends their precious echo chamber elitist sensibilities when suddenly rich young men (generally from poor backgrounds and with few options) getting a ton of attention act like suddenly rich young men getting a ton of attention doesn't it?
