Riiiight, anyway...
The point is [a bunch or irrelevant gibberish about how Eddie Griffin did things once]

And I still don't see your point. What in the sam hill does it matter that none of us on this forum have played or likely will play in the NBA?

Now, gather your thoughts, and try to explain it.

the most atheletic, most talented, most potential big man to ever play the game of basketball

I don't think he was the most athletic, most talented, most potential big man in his draft let alone in history.

He was a below average turned awful basketball player making millions of dollars.

The world is better off without him.

As a local player in the northern jersey area, I played against him regularly the summer before and after school while he was at seton hall, we were freshman the same year.

The personal hit I am taking from this aside, your lack of respect for the death of another human being goes beyond reprehensible. He had his share of problems, not quite like everyone else, but who are we to judge another. Very, very, very bad taste.

edit-
Just saw shannon's earlier post. He was a VERY nice guy, he walked me around campus after my official visit to SH, I met andre barrett, and Ty Shine that day. He got into a fight with Shine later that year. That team was incredibly talented, it was a top 10 recruiting year for them. Only Barrett stayed all four years. I kept in contact with a few of them cause we use the same practice facility during the summer to workout (In Paterson, its owned/run by Tim Thomas).

The link made me burst out laughing  Unfortunately, I don't think it's enough. I think enrollment and thorough training is necessary in this case. Maybe a program similar to this: http://www.ctcd.edu/pg-esl.htm

Did you ever notice his "problems" then? If you did, you should have asked him "wats up?" Apparently saying that cures addictions.

Yes, his problems were very much different, as he was given every opportunity and second chance anyone could possibly hope for, and still threw it away.
but who are we to judge another. Very, very, very bad taste.

Does it make your brain sizzle when you say something THAT hypocritical?
Just saw shannon's earlier post.

Yeah, I know, what was her problem? Geez.

I don't know if you can call sucker punching a guy in his street clothes after a game because he didn't pass you the ball enough a fight. I think aggravated assault is more like it.

Eddie Griffin, Andre Barrett AND Ty Shine? I can't wait for the tv anniversary tributes to that team years from now.

I'm a guy, and that smart ass comment wasn't funny.

What did he ever do that should make me respect him?

He said respecting someones death. It's the same sort of respect you may or may not have for the dead, eg. walking on someones grave is not respectful.

Anyway, since you conveniently skipped over my post, I'm done with this. All I have to say is that if you don't have respect for the death of a young man who had his fair share of problems, and yes, run in's with the law, your an ass in my book.

Your last post was just reinforcing what you had already said. I may not have a soul, but I know when a discussion has hit its redundancy.

If Michael Vick was mauled by a pit bull tomorrow, would you respect his death?

iKe7in, WTF is your problem? I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't step on his grave in the event that he dies. For the same reason no one has yet to do so to Hussein.

And Griffin's situation is entirely different from Vick's. As far as I know, Griffin never hurt anybody or any animal.

Prove it.

People who attempt or commit genocide usually seem to get a pass on the "respecting the dead" issue. Weird how that works. Judging people on their actions and such.

Yes.

The guy made pit bulls fight, but he's still a human being. Where he's from, it seems damn common to hold dogfights and bet on them. Growing up in that environment, it wouldn't seem that bad to him. No excuse to be dogfighting, but I would still respect the guy and have respect for his death.

For the same reason no one has yet to do so to Hussein.

I bet people have.

I would too, he was worthless as far as I know - no that I follow politics at all.

Eddie Griffin was a troubled person and there are no doubts about that. He had a lot of demons in his life that he just couldn't shake away. Kevin McHale had a great interview about Griffin and it's on the Timberwolves.com website. He opens up about Griffin's time in Minnesota and how they tried to help him. How many times Griffin came into the training room asking for help from the team doctors and management.

Griffin asked the Timberwolves to give him an Antabose pill which makes you vomit and get sick if you drink alcohol. He volunteeraily did that everyday to try to stop himself from drinking. He had times where he wouldn't drink at all and things started going good. Then he would hit a rough patch and start binge drinking. As McHale said, his coping skills weren't where they needed to be.

Griffin was not a bad guy...but he was a different guy when he had alcohol in him. He tried to get help. He completed John Lucas' 6 month alochol rehab program. You guys act like Griffin had no regard for anything in life and that isn't true. Sure, on the basketball court he didn't fulfil his potential and a lot of it has to do with him simply not being a big fan of the game. He didn't love the game like you need to love it to become a great player. I'm not going to fault the guy for that...it's his life. But he had a lot of problems off the court and he'd get help but it would only fail.

I feel really bad that life ended this way for Eddie. He was a good person underneath the alcohol. He just couldn't overcome the demons he had in his life. He probably couldn't take it anymore and decided to end it that night. As John Lucas said..."Eddie is finally free."

RIP Eddie

Does that mean you respect Vick over Hussein because Vick hurt dogs and not people? As far as I know, Hussein is a human being. A "worthless" human that did many horrible things, but a human nonetheless.

I don't like either of the two, but I certainly wouldn't disrespect anyone's death. I wouldn't do it, but if one day you choose to step on someone's grave, I'll respect your decision, but I certainly won't support it.

this entire thread has gone way off course. its really sad that some people seem happy that he is dead. its ok he died cause he was not that good anyway? if he was leading your team in points, or rebounds, or whatever, would you still not give a shit if he died? i read something like "did you care when you didnt know it was a nba player"? the answer is no as i didnt find out anything about it til i saw it on realgm, however if i go home tonight and see someone died cause they got ran over or whatever i will care to the poine of respecting them enough as a person to not flat out insult thier life by saying its a better world without them.

to be honest you can probably make that comment ("the world is better off without him") to about half the worlds population and it could honestly be true, but the fact remains that most people in this world have the respect for others to not walk up to some random guy on the street and say "if you die right now this world will be improved"

really all this thread has done is show who is a complete fucking asshole
