imho, kobe's body jerked after ginobili collides with his right leg, before kobe flailed his arm. thus i think he was just trying to regain balancefor his landing... had it been bowen chasing kobe, kobe would have landed on bowen's foot.
Fri Feb 02, 2007 8:05 pm
didnt deserve suspension.
but what is worse, the announcer on "SportsCenter Australia" didnt pronounce Ginobili's name "Jin-obe-ly", he pronounced "gin-obbly"
and also, did highlights of the nets-jazz game and called it: "Utah Nets vs New Jersey Jazz" lol
but i love the new "SportsCenter Australia" and they are the only 2 mistakes that i have noticed. they show highlights of australian and american sport. it is great!!!

I mean, look at even the hit Lebron put on Wade last night which was purely accidental but in the head region nonetheless. Please tell me that Kobe's incident was worse... Will Lebron be suspended, doubt it and either way he shouldnt be.
Also, look at Ginobli's kick to Amare's crotch? The way in which they handled Kobe's incident in such a superhumanly critical way then theres no way if they applied the same approach when viewing those plays those guys shouldnt be suspended (and as I said before they shouldnt because thats just a bit too petty in my eyes). Ridiculous, the NBA just screwed up.

The NBA is suspending Lakers guard Kobe Bryant for Wednesday night's game at Milwaukee for catching Minnesota Timberwolves guard Marko Jaric in the face Tuesday night.
After getting his shot blocked by Jaric, Bryant flailed his arms and caught Jaric in the face with 58.7 seconds left in regulation Tuesday.
Bryant was called for a foul on the play. Bryant struck San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili in the face in similar fashion with two-tenths of a second left in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 96-94 overtime loss Jan. 28 against the Spurs.
Bryant was not called for a foul on that play, but was suspended for the Lakers' next game.
Bryant was suspended in that incident for what league disciplinarian Stu Jackson called driving "a stiff arm backward."
Jaric said he was surprised that Bryant was suspended.
"I haven't seen the replay, but if you ask me what I thought about the play when it happened, I don't think he did it intentionally, and I don't think players should be suspended for things that happen unintentionally," Jaric told ESPN.com. "I think he was trying to draw a foul, and he swung his hand out to make it look dramatic, and he hit me by accident. He apologized right after."
It is the fifth time that Bryant has been suspended by the NBA.
Looked just like the last one.. Got blocked, then he threw his arm down towards the player that did it..

I dont see why you are freaking out, why shouldn't he be suspended? All he does is draw fouls, anyone can score that much with 30 FTAPG.

You must get heart attacks every time Wade plays your team.

This latest one looked obviously intentional, unlike the first one. Since when does anyone follow through on their shot by swinging their arm out to the right? Ridiculous.

That's Kobe's follow through/shooting form style. He swings his arms a bit to the right.
Thu Mar 08, 2007 1:44 pm
LOL He does not swing his arm all the way down. Last time the Lakers played the jazz Shobe had 24 FTA the Jazz as a team had 26 FTA. Even Wade didn't get that many.
Thu Mar 08, 2007 2:03 pm
I wasn't aware Kobe's normal shooting form involved a wild swing at his defender's head either. I think Adrian Wojnarowski
summed it up nicely. Kobe can't keep playing the victim if he keeps making these wild swings; whether they're intentionally aimed at a player or not, it's a dangerous action and the league has made it clear it won't tolerate it, nor should they. It's an easy call to make and one that would be made on any player who did the same thing.
It's unfortunate that fans subsequently miss out on seeing him play but if you break the rules you have to suffer the consequences. Fans are constantly jumping up and down about the calls Wade gets, yet want Kobe to receive special treatment in the form of a slap on the wrist rather than being penalised as any other player would be. Given that Lakers/Bucks was the game shown on Foxtel today I was disappointed that Kobe wouldn't be in action but in all fairness if the league isn't going to make a call like that then there's a lot of things they might as well let slide.

This suspension is not justified. It is a natural motion. How many times have you seen a player stripped when going up for a shot and their arms swing out? It's no difference when you are in the air. It's also natural to drop your arms as you are falling after you jump. The only time players keep their arm(s) up is after a successful follow through. The contact only happened because Jaric came from Kobe's right side, which is the same situation as it was with the contact on Manu Ginobilli, except the contact with Manu was much more harsh.

How many 20 FT games has Wade had this season? How about Kobe?
And Kobe's "unnatural basketball move," is completely false. Kobe tilts his hand to the right on his jumpshot on the follow through. When someone blocks you, it is a natural instinct to swing your arms like Pdub said.
Thu Mar 08, 2007 6:05 pm
Well I could see it as intentional, but when someone bumps you on a jumpshot, it's natural to exaggerata your motion to let the refs know you got fouled.

They shouldnt suspend him for the one game that he's in Milwaukee. Should be the next home game or something.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 7:50 am
I'm not a huge Kobe fan but this does seem unnecessarily harsh. It's an intentional foul, fine, treat it as a Flagrant Foul per the rules and give the other team 2 shots + the ball, that's a stiff penalty.
But suspension? Kobe didn't attack the other guy ala Melo.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 8:24 am
I knew it was gonna happen again. Kobe pulls that trying-to-draw-a-foul-by-flailing-his-arms move all the time as I explained after the first suspension. As maes said it should just be a flagrant foul and no suspension. I'm not even a fan of Kobe but this is bullshit. The league is becoming way to soft, he tried to draw a foul, hit a player by accident as he has done many times before... so? Shit happens. Its a sport, people are bound to get hurt every now and then, its not like Kobe is going out on a mission to kill all these international floppers. It was a foul. Nothing more.

What sense does that make? Next time someone throws a punch why not wait 3 games til their 15 game suspension starts. Or when someone robs a bank and gets caught, let them roam the streets for 30 days then we will put them in jail for 5 years.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:10 am
What happened to the days of "Man's basketball," where you don't get suspended for even a clothesline? joejam99 has forgotten those days, only to go against Kobe.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:50 am
What sense does that make?
so fans that paid $250 for courtside seats actually get to see Kobe on their ONLY chance in the year. This should only be done for 1-game suspensions.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 11:05 am
Actualy Matt, I think that isn't such a bad idea. It's got more merit to it than I would have initialy thought.
Anyways, Kobe's suspension was BS. I can't imagine how many games someone like Reggie Miller would have been suspended for when he was running around karate kicking people when he was shooting jumpers.

If I played in the NBA, since I am allways in people grills, I would have gotten 100 people suspended because of this follow-threw.
