6pts, 1rbd, 1blk, 1st, 1ast is definately not bad for just 11 minutes of play. I think he will conitnue like this for another few weeks, then his minutes will rise up to is old average throughout the rest of the season. Good Luck

come on, who are you kidding, those numbers are pretty mediocre....Sean Marks could put up that, but with more boards & be more influential in 11 minutes of action

Sean Marks didn't have microfracture surgery. You can't really expect the guy to come back and put up 20 points 3 blocks and 8 boards. Its gonna be a slow process, they'd rather have him ready for the playoffs than opening night, a game that they probably won't even remember playing 5 months from now. And why did he change his number?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 9:19 am

Because he felt like switching to number 1...

to honor his foundation’s motto, “Each One Teach One,”

Does he have a charity or something?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:45 am

Obviously, but maybe theres a meaning behind it. He could have felt like switching to almost any other number.

Stoudemire is lookuing pretty damn good so far. 100% FG and 8 points in the first Q

Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:18 pm

I agree he is looking good inside. Phoenix looks pretty good.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:36 pm

Oh Fuck! Did you see him put back his own miss with with a 2 handed tomahawk  I just called off my fantasy trade involving him so I can pick up Rudy Gay who is looking great (Y)

Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:46 pm

Ladies and Gentleman...: Mister Amare Stoudemire.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:28 pm

Amare got 35 minutes or so tonight. 15 and 5, pretty alright. More like his preseason self?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:38 pm

Hey Zoom, did you watch?

Amare's stat line was good, but he looked very impressive, getting some nice dunks and bouncing around the court. I don't remember him [playing that many minutes though, seemed to me more like 25 or so, but nevertheless, he looked good. He hardly looked any slower and his jumping ability is still very good, and before the game he said he was around 90%. D'Antoni hardly gave him any minutes in the second half, so almost all of his statline was accumulated in the 1st half alone. I like what I see (Y)

Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:47 pm

Well, it's evident they are taking it slowly.

And no Flite, I can't watch any of this.. so tell me what was funny bout Nash?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 6:57 pm

You can watch it on TVU. Oh, the ball went out of bounds, and the ref called it the wrong way by accident. Nash walked up to him and sorta, squatted down, pointed his fingers (the way a ref would to show whos ball it is) the correct way, and opened his mouth like a mime, then slid (sliding like when playing defence) down the court pointing and bouncing his head like a bobblehead. I was cracking up, you have to see it too get the full story

Just over a month gone in the season and Amare is averaging 15.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg and 1.1 bpg in 26 mpg. As a starter, he's averaging 29 mpg with his scoring and rebounding numbers jumping up to 18.6 and 9.7 per game respectively. Over a recent stretch where he's played an average of 34 mpg, he's been putting up around 22 and 11 per game as well as picking up a few blocks (seven against the Nets). His performance against the Bucks was on par with that as he tallied 22 points on 9/13 shooting, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in 34 minutes.

Having seen a few Suns games this season I'd agree that he lacks some of the explosiveness we've seen from him before the knee surgeries but his athleticism has hardly been reduced to the level of, say, Dikembe Mutombo. We'll probably never know if he'll reach the same heights he seemed destined for a couple of years ago but it doesn't look like he's ready to be written off as just another player whose career was over before it really got going just yet.

The difference with Amare this year is his difference in philosophy. Before, it was all about dunks and style. Granted, those plays made all basketball fans jump out of their seats, but it wasn't championship style basketball. This year, he's playing better defense and he's aggressively looking to rebound the ball rather than having the ball just come to him. The game against the Bucks last night was a major step in the right direction. He had two and-1 dunks that made me jump out of my seat (if you haven't seen them, they're probably somewhere on nba.com or youtube). He also got up reeeeeal high to block a couple of shots. He's not going to be as athletic as in 04-05, but he's going to be a lot closer than most people expect.

Amare with a season best 30 points and 8 rebounds tonight, simultaneously shutting down Dwight Howard with the help of Kurt Thomas. The man is back in terms of productivity, and he's improving game by game. He's improving skill-wise...expanding his range, knocking down FTs (12-14 tonight), and developing post moves, as opposed to the 04-05 season where he was scoring off pure athleticism. He's still going to end up being a top 5 forward in the league.

There were some tough calls, but Dwight really needs to learn how to play smarter. He had to leave early in the first half due to foul trouble, but he started the 3rd with only 2 fouls, and he ended up fouling out. It's not like Amare hasn't had his fair share of tough calls go against him :)

Id like to resurect this topic by saying that Amare is back and at full force he is playing probably even better now then when he was fit, he may not be explosive as much anymore even tho he does get some sick dunks, but hes become a much smarter player and im pleased that he has returned and hope he continues to improve even more.

Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:41 pm

he's not quite the player w/o Nash though.

Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:44 pm

And Nash wouldn't look quite as good without Amare though.

Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:33 pm

You sure about that? Consider his 05/06 season (which he apparently won an mvp for). ;)

It's great to see Amare back at an All-Star level and performing so well, proving a few people wrong along the way. It's true he still isn't quite explosive as he was before the surgery but as the season has progressed it's obvious his confidence and comfort with his knee has increased allowing him to be a less cautious on it. Ultimately this is great for the NBA because the last thing we needed to see was another star's career end before it really got started due to injury.

Wow, is that from today's game vs the clippers? He can really get up again.

Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:29 am

Well Amare has his best game of the season, dropping: 43 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks on 14-25 shooting.

Amazing game for Amare, he is well and truly back (Y)
