But I thought you were saying Kobe deserved the MVP based on his individual performance?
Mon Feb 06, 2006 2:31 pm
Against Toronto? No...I have backed off my Kobe Bryant MVP fervor a bit and have come back to reality. It would be completely idiotic to give Kobe the MVP because of that 81 point game. But , if he gets the team on his back and they go on a 10 game winning streak to get back in playoff contention , he is certainly in the discussion. Sure , you can bring up Iverson and Nash , but they're on good teams. Kobe Bryant is on a bad team , and he himself is helping them stay in possible playoff contention and if they get a 6 seed , as Andrew said , or higher he should be MVP simply because the rest of his team is horrible. That's what a true "most valuable player" is to the Lakers.

That sounds better

Of course, I have to agree, if he gets them to the playoffs with a nice record, then he probably get the award (Just a random shit I noticed, you joined one day after I turned 17

)

AI I think he deserves it this year.

And you joined 2 days before my 16th birthday (Drex).
I would definitely put Brand in the mix, he's a consistent performer every night. 25ppg and 10.4 rpg. Top 10 in both rebounds and blocks, and 11th in scoring. The Clippers are playing their best in like 20 years.
And about this double standard thing... on one hand, a team's wins should count for something... but on the other hand, look at the Lakers and look at the {insert Pistons, Suns, Sixers, Cavaliers}. The Lakers are lost without Bryant (refer back to his suspension). Lakers would have a worst record than the Knicks without Bryant. Another way of looking at MVP is whichever player that has the biggest impact on their team.

Where's Brand?
Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:50 pm
I would LOVE Billups to win it, but the way Nash is going, its hard to take it away from him...

Both the players are so evenly matched stat-wise, its really just Billups' 1 less turn over per game and Nashes 2.5more assists
If record does end up making the difference, then Billups would win it, but to me, it is between these two.
Kobe has no chance

but how do you measure that? you'd have to have every potential candidate sit out. Based on this, T-Mac is MVP since Rockets are dog shit w/o him.

I agree, how good would the Clippers be without Brand? The lineup would be:
PG - Sam Cassell
SG - Cuttino Mobley
SF - Quinton Ross
PF - Chris Wilcox
C Chris Kaman
6th man - Shaun Livingston
7th man - James Singleton
Does that truly look like a playoff team to anyone? The Clippers are currently on pace to win 50 games. The Twolves without KG would be a worse version of the Cleveland team in 02-03 that won like 19 games, and this time in the West. So what would they win? 15 games?
Even the Suns, if you took out either Marion or Nash, they would suck, but Marion isn't an MVP candidate because of this.

Half way? Duncan was a favorite untill he got injured.

I wouldn't say that. Having no Hughes for like a month, the Cavs have posted a great record. His stats also show up that he's an all around guy getting 31-6-6.

Good point

.....
Someone could Wilt had 50 ppg 27rpg and almost 5 apg in 1961-62 and if he wanted to do that he could but his team would lose aton.
Wilt didn't win the MVP that year either...
