Well your typing sure shows it...
You seem to be the only person on this planet who doesn't think that a player like Manu Ginobili isn't a steal. He may not be as good as a lot of the players mentioned in this thread, but I'm sure if every team knew what Manu would turn out to be, he would have been drafted a lot higher.
And please find better ways to back up why you think Ginobili is an "idiot" without Duncan...
Manu will never be the same if he is not playing with Duncan, Duncan did make everybody surround him better, that's why he has won mvp twice, so,.. Manu will not be as "good" as he has been without Duncan, you cant deny that, can you? Also, like I said, Manu's success is also due to the system that is built by Pop, he emphaised on hard working, team basketball concept, if no pop and no duncan, Manu may just be an average player... It's true that he would have been drafted higher, but if he did, then he probablly wont be playing for Spurs. He might be playing for Hawks, Clippers... you never know, then there is no playoff for him, no national tv televise his game, no Duncan, what will he turn out then???

manu is as good a penetrating guard as any in the league.. the reason he's always getting fouled hard is because he cuts through outside D, and catches the post D off guard who then come down on him like a ton of bricks..
those skills translate to any team.. what duncan does for manu's game is helps spread the defense and clear the lanes.. in that way you could reasonably say that manu is equally helpful to timmy d's game

the reason he's always getting fouled hard is because
he flops a lot!!

When you quote something dont erase the sentence.
And you can contribute more than that stupid
Anyways ntong, you are saying that without Duncan Ginobili wouldnt be as good? Ther are TONS of players that without an specific teammate, they wouldnt be where they are at this moment. Why dont you actually use your brain and check all the things Manu has done in Europe and in the Olympics. You obviously dont know ANYTHING about Manu so there's no point in you keeping this argument up.

Without Duncan and Greg Pop, Ginobili wouldn't be as good as he is now.
Thu Sep 22, 2005 3:39 pm
it's one thing to say that he wouldn't have grown as much as a player without duncan and pop, it's another thing to say that he is an average player (now) without them around.

What??how can you say that??
It's the same thing as, WITHOUT MICHAEL AND PHIL, Scottie wouldnt be that good also WITHOUT HAKEEM AND RUDY T.,Horry wouldnt be that good?????hello..Are you still with me??
Thu Sep 22, 2005 3:46 pm
Umm no I'm not with you. Scottie was a good player.
Manu was not that good. He came in and had motivation by Duncan and Greg and he tried as hard as he could and look at him now.

Manu was not that good? What about Europe, what about the Olympics?
Since when did he just came in and got motivated by Duncan? He won MVP's and Championships in Europe, he doesnt need motivation. He just needed a good coach and he got him. You are all acting like because of Pop, Manu is a good player. Hello? Since when do coaches play for the players. I agree that Pop guided him but what I dont agree with is that Pop and Duncan made him what he is now. He and only himself made that happen.

Well you're going way too far with this. I haven't really explained it good because I don't care much about this topic. I know he was good in europe..I"m just saying. This helped him develop along. Not that it wouldn't of happened.

the bottomline is MANU is really good!!!His an all star.He can lead his team no matter what. With or without the Spurs.

It did help him develop but I just dont like people that say Manu flops so he doesnt deserve anything (I know you didnt say that btw)

Manu is the newst version of Vlade in terms of king of flop.
International players develop that flop style to caught attention from the referees..Funny but good tactic.
Thu Sep 22, 2005 4:52 pm
everyone does the "flop" in the nba. Manu just does it "well". Besides, how is too much flopping making him a overrated player? so what he does a lot of flops to fool the refree? Does that help him score, pass, rebound? It doesn't matter if Manu fools the refs 10 time or zero times, he's still a good player.
side note: i'm pretty sure the NBA came up with the "flop." you don't see a lot of that in international games.

Manu Ginobili...I knew he'd be a great player before he got drafted..I remember telling my friends that he'd be a great player and people went "who the hell is this Manu guy?" If only I was an NBA scout. Damn.
No matter how bad you think Manu is. He is first round material, maybe even for his stats alone. He was also almost undrafted.

Biggest steal of the draft ever?
Spud Webb. 4th round, 87th overall pick in the 1985 draft.
In that same draft Mario Elie was picked 160th overall in the 7th round, that's another huge steal.
Then in the 1989 draft, you have Clifford Robinson picked in the second round 36th overall, and he's still around. That's amazingly impressive.
Don't forget about Cedric Ceballos going 48th overall in the 1990 NBA draft, Nick Van Exel going 37th overall in the 1993 draft, P.J. Brown, Malik Rose, Anthony Johnson, Cuttino Mobley and Rueben Patterson were all also 2nd round picks.

What about guys like Ben Wallace who went undrafted? Does that count?
Oh, and what about Dennis Rodman (I have a feeling he didn't go too high in the draft if he got drafted at all, but face it, the man has 5 rings and like 30 rebound titles).

I guess not, since the title reads Biggest
draft steals.

All great examples.

They may not have ever (or may not ever) become top tier players in the league but a couple of teams lucked out there. I'd somewhat disagree with a couple of them on the grounds that they achieved more success since leaving the teams that drafted them, but I suppose their "steal" status kind of carries over to their new club.
Rodman went early in the second round in 1986 (I want to say 26th but could have been 27th), I'd consider him a steal as well.
