Shotblockers change flow of the opponents offense by intimidation, stealers don't.

A stealer can be intimidating... if he can make the PG play a bit with his back to the basket, it disrupts his view of the court...

Then, what would be defense Cy? :?:

I'd call it defensive awareness, being at the right place at the right time, and not giving anybody any easy shots. Like Bowen and Artest are known as great defenders for locking down their opponents and frustrating them, not necessarily racking up blocks or steals. Shaq, Duncan, Mutombo, Mourning, those guys are dangerous in the paint because of their presence, they make people afraid of driving in the paint to face one of those guys.

I get it now! (Y)

The only bad thing is that it would be impossible to record it in the stat sheet.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:28 am

Yep! So true.. that's why there's a lot of gems out there that don't really fill up the stat sheet, but have lots of intangibles that make the team better. Like Robert Horry in the playoffs.

yeah ben wallace blocks doesn't mean anything either.

That still doen not make him a better overall defender than Bowen.

lol, Ben Wallace's blocks doesn't just make him a good defender, but his toughness, timing, defensive awareness and presence makes him a good defender. I thought I made that clear.
