Wed Apr 06, 2005 7:31 pm
Mathematically, realistically, scientifically they are now out of contention.
Wed Apr 06, 2005 7:34 pm
Mathematically they can still make it... statistically speaking the chances are close to zero!

PHOENIX (AP) -- When the postseason starts, the Los Angeles Lakers' season will be over.
They didn't go out in style either, falling victim to a record-setting 3-point barrage by the Phoenix Suns.
Quentin Richardson scored 21 of his 25 points on 3-pointers, and the Suns routed the Lakers 125-99 Tuesday night to knock the defending Western Conference champions out of the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.

Well that stinks. Oh wells, back to the drawing board Buss.
Thu Apr 07, 2005 10:21 am
why is it back to the drawing board? it's only been 1 year since the lakers dismantling
Thu Apr 07, 2005 10:41 am
He's going to return to the drawing board and do some more erasing and a little more drawing. But to think that he's actually going to even think of erasing Kobe Bryant from the board is proposterous.
Kobe can be the Man. To think that he's not capable of being anymore than Shaq's sidekick is unfair. This guy has arguably the most talent and ability than anyone in the league.
The Lakers' play next year will be contingent on the play and attitude of Kobe Bryant. I don't know Kobe as a person so I'm still thinking that there's a chance that he could come back to camp as a changed player. Jordan did it.
If Kobe comes back as a leader, the team will follow. This year was a disaster and I feel that the only one to blame is Mitch K. for taking the Lakers off of the playoff radar.

I can't wait for next season. As Gloveguy sort of said though, people have to stop blaming Kobe for everything and lay some of the blame on Kupchak or whatever it is. That guy's a complete fuck up of a GM. He's useless, not only through the Shaq trade (you're bullshitting me if you think you couldn't have got any better than Odom and Butler) but his drafting of players aswell. I mean Vujacic and Cook... the Lakers could've had Josh Howard. JOSH FREAKIN HOWARD. Do we want another Marquis Daniels? Fuck no, lets draft someone like Marcus Douthit who doesn't even play a game for the team before being arrested and going elsewhere.

Kobe and Butler for Carter and Jefferson! ...yeah right thats not going to happen, but the Lakers would be awesome with that line up
PG - Chucky Atkins
SG - Richard Jefferson
SF - Vince Carter
PF - Lamar Odom
C - Chris Mhim

You're joking aren't you?

Back to the drawing board because I don't see a few players sticking around in LA jersey's. There will be a few trades = back to the drawing board. "

Hey Jackal... who do u htink are actually wanting to leave the team?
I heard the locker room atmosphere isnt working out too great...
And does anyone know who's side Devean Geroge would be on?
Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:49 pm
i think odom and butler have been bitching about being in LA right now
Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:57 pm
I like Butler but Odom can go. His trade value is higher so they might be able to get something half decent in return for him.
Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:59 pm
Butler's been playing better... and Kobe likes playing to him, as opposed to Odom- it just isnt working out!
Oh.. wat a waste of space Vlade was!

I think Butler's more willing to adapt to Bryant's style of playing so I don't see him being traded as fast as Odom. The Odom & Bryant combination isn't working. He's likely to be shipped elsewhere. Butler could be traded but not for the same reasons as Odom. He's likely to be traded as an extra.
George is too inconsistant, he can drop 20 orso one game and then 3 points the next.
Grant & Divac are good for nothing. Grant might be all right but the size of his contract is absurd. He deserves nothing close to those numbers.

back to the drawing board= wiping the slate clean
lol at this drawing board talk. if the lakers are going back jackal's definition of this cliche 'drawing board', that means everyone other then the eventual champs are doing the same.
management didn't expect the current cast to click immediately as the lakers got whatever they could for shaq... despite the numerous optimistic comments by the lakers faction here.
as gloveguy said, there probably will be some changes, but not a complete makeover like last year as you are implying, frank jackal.

I guess American's living outside the US have a different definition of "back to the drawingboard". I don't define as completely starting from scratch but that could just be me.
To each their own way of thinking. I figured people can alter stuff at a drawing board no matter how tiny the detail. Making some moves etc would fall under that altering category.
Plus I never mentioned a complete makeover, no where did I say that.

Hey, Hey, Lets stop the knicks bashing we are talking about the Lakers

Why should they even trade one of the top 5 players of the league? he certainly hasn't played his best this season due to bugging injuries. Just wait till next season, he'll ya comments.

this isn't a 'to each his own way of thinking", unless you purposely want to be ignorant
i didn't think i had to but just to clarify...
1 entry found for 'back to the drawing board'.
back to the drawing board
Also, back to square one. Back to the beginning because the current attempt was unsuccessful, as in When the town refused to fund our music program, we had to go back to the drawing board, or I've assembled this wrong side up, so it's back to square one. The first term originated during World War II, most likely from the caption of a cartoon by Peter Arno in The New Yorker magazine. It pictured a man who held a set of blueprints and was watching an airplane explode. The variant is thought to come from a board game or street game where an unlucky throw of dice or a marker sends the player back to the beginning of the course. It was popularized by British sports-casters in the 1930s, when the printed radio program included a grid with numbered squares to help listeners follow the description of a soccer game.

The play-offs are only a couple of well suited players away... obviously things with Odom aren't working out (not just because of Kobe, he was shit when Kobe was injured anyways) Mihm is ok I guess, certainly not the worst starting C in the NBA and Caron Butler has been probably the best of all the new players. Chucky Atkins has to go, to the bench. Get a starting PG, one who can actually pass the ball without whinging about having to do it. I wish the Lakers had signed Barrett, that's annoying
