Iverson Traded to Denver

Corey Maggette has demanded a trade also, hmmm maybe the Nuggs should pursue him instead of Iverson seeing as Corey would be perfect for what we need.

It appears Corey Maggette and the Clippers are headed toward a breakup soon.

Maggette's agent, Rob Pelinka, recently asked the team to trade the seven-year veteran, and the Clippers have offered Maggette to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a proposed package for disgruntled star guard Allen Iverson.

And even if they fail to acquire Iverson, the Clippers are expected to trade Maggette this season.

Change can be good, Maggette said.

"Me and Coach [Mike] Dunleavy ... we don't see eye to eye," Maggette said Friday night before the Clippers' 109-99 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. "Coach doesn't respect what I do. If that's the case, it might be time for me to go, move on and have a new beginning. It's better for me to go."

Dunleavy said he must do what's in the best interests of the Clippers.

"I do respect his ability," Dunleavy said. "But I play him according to what's best for our team.

Well, Denver was one of the first teams for AI to be rumoured to be tied with until Karl commented that Ai is not needed for Denver. But that might have been a smoke screen since alot of reports state that Denver is indeed very close.

So favorite, as far as rumours go, is Denver.

i never liked this whole "a source close to the team" or some NBA expert saying he talked to some "insiders within the organization" bullshit

all this really is is just old women in a sewing circle exchanging gossip stories and we all eat it up

the NBA needs to do something about this- reporters have no accountability- they need to specifically mention who these "sources" really are.

i hope Iverson gets traded to Denver or whichever team he reportedly is going to already

The only problem with mentioning who the sources really are is for alot of the true "sources" if their names were published, they could be fired for leaking stuff they may not have been supposed to leak. I see your point, but thats one of the big rules for any journalist. Yeah its not AS big a deal in sports as in politics etc; but it still is for the protection of the people who gave the information. I can actually believe all these "sources" are telling the truth because i could believe almost every team in the NBA wants AI. Its also a strange business during trades and reminds me of the movie biz. "Well we're working on this project see, and it should be able to go through" then something puts a stop on it for a little while "this project probly is at an end" but then a new trade/counter trade is offered and "the project" is back open. It is dumb and i would prefer more answers, but we're not GM's/players/coaches/owners. Not a damn thing we can do but sit and wait.

yeh i know about that... which is probably why those reporters who put together that book which entailed Bonds illegal habits will go to jail. they don't want to give up their sources

but in the NBA world, there are the Peter Vescey's and basically most of the New York media which comes up with a bunch of crap. every offseason these media outlets proclaim that every big name FA will be going to the Knicks or that Vescey says some blockbuster deal is about to happen... we're supposed to believe it since they spoke to a source within the organization... and none of which comes to fruition. 99/100 times these guys are wrong. the 1 time they are right is after the fact that Espn's Marc Stein/Mark Bucher gave the breaking news. if you ask me- the people being 'protected' here are the journalists that threw shit on the wall and hoped it stuck

the best part is when a GM like John Paxson hears about the alleged rumors involving his team, gets pissed, quickly shoots down the rumor, and the journalist who came up the rumor looks like an idiot. we need more gm's like this. as a result, Bulls/nba beat writer Sam Smith, has even chilled out. most of his trade offers now are tongue and cheek

imo- i don't think every team is interested AI. of course it's the GM's repsonsibility to at least make an inquiry but not every team is going ape shit about him, especially once they hear what Philly wants back hehe. it's just like how the Red Sox put Manny on waivers every year right before the deadline. sure every team would want his bat in the lineup but the deadline passes and he's still in Boston

I just tried this trade out on espn.com's trade machine and it looks like a good trade that improves all 4 teams. Gasol leaves Memphis, AI leaves Philly, Maggete leaves LA, Toronto gets 2 really good swingmen that they really need, LAC stocks up on some young guys with potential, Philly gets 2 expiring contracts, & Memphis turns their whole franchise around with some excellent scorers, all you need to is add soem draft picks to make it more even. If only Billy King or someone else sees this then maybe something will happen earlier.

Yup, I think the deal's off as well. There is no way 76ers would trade for handful suspended players. But impact of this brawl is yet to be determined, any long suspension for any player involved might mess it all up though.

with almost anything being possible in the nba, the suspensions could be divided up to be served at later and/or different dates if a trade is close to being submitted for approval.
or if stern is in any way eager to have iverson bringing that extra revenue back in.

and off topic, with ai's supposed disruptive attitude in the locker room or off court, does any one know how many times he has ever started or been in a fight in the league? or for that matter how many fights have the sixers even had in his 11 yrs. i recall one incident but don't even know if that turned into a fight.

thinking back on jordans career and some of the stuff he did in practice, if the bulls were a prison team mj would have been shanked, yet being mj he was never considered anywhere near what they criticize ai for.

By banishing him last Friday, they've done nothing but make teams reluctant to offer the best possible packages for Iverson. King wanted a bidding war for Iverson. So far, it hasn't been close.

As it's turned out, these negotiations aren't about who's offered the most for Iverson, but who's offered the least embarrassing package.

Through the bad contracts and draft picks and trades, through the revolving door of coaches, King has remained blessed with an engaging, earnest disposition that's carried him within and outside his organization. He's a survivor. And make no mistake, he isn't alone among his peers. If Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were demanding trades in Minnesota and Boston now, Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge would be under this kind of scrutiny.

Still, King has a chance to make a last stand on this trade – bringing back expiring contracts, young players and draft picks – to fortify a bid to keep his job. And what comes with it but word that Larry Brown is holding his hand on the trade, serving as a "consultant" to the Sixers.

For goodness sakes, the biggest decision he'll ever make as Philadelphia G.M. and King decides to deliver the message that he isn't strong enough to make it on his own? Brown was responsible for hiring King with the 76ers, and now it looks like he's unsure what to do without him.

"What does he need Larry Brown for?" one league executive wondered Thursday night. "If you're the G.M., do the deal."

The Sixers are believed to have been offered the ever-intriguing young Clippers guard Shaun Livingston over the summer for Iverson – with Corey Maggette – but King didn't go for it. They'll never get Livingston now. Part of that was ownership's reluctance to trade the franchise's most valued asset at a time when selling the team was a possibility.

Surely still, that wasn't the first chance King had to get maximum value for his superstar. Besides waiting too long to trade him, they decided to do it all wrong.

That's the reason, one league source says, the Pacers are determined to keep one foot in the talks with Philadelphia. Indiana executives Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird are insisting they want to grab Iverson if he's there to be stolen. That's where Billy King has backed himself into now, where salvaging his lost cause with Allen Iverson looks like one more losing proposition in Philly.
