But I don't think Detroit's record would be much more different if they didn't have Billups. The team is filled with superstars at every position , whereas for LA there is only one good player. Again , I emphasize how horrible LA's record would be without Bryant. Bryant is basically responsible for the team being in playoff contention. I'm not a Lakers fan , but as an unbiased observer , seeing Kobe's phenomenal season this year , no other player in the NBA in my opinion has been as valuable to their team than Kobe Bryant. Maybe if the Lakers didn't make the playoffs you could make a case for Billups or LeBron , but if the Lakers make the playoffs I don't see why Kobe shouldn't get the award.

I'm another unbiased observer, but IMHO, to win the MVP, the players need a combination of numbers and wins. Kobe pwns absolutely everybody in numbers, but in the W's his team is average. Some guy in the previous page posted some facts about the MVP. After saying all that, Kobe's still a Top 3 candidate, and there's still lot of season to go.

We haven't seem the best of Kobe Bryant just yet! he'll averaged 40+ ppg in the second half and take his team back to the playoff.

I don't buy the idea that Kobe's wrapped up the MVP, as Steve Kerr suggested after the 81 point game. That's basically suggesting that the Lakers could lose the rest of the way and he'd still be the MVP. I don't agree with that. A candidate? Absolutely, he's keeping the Lakers alive and his scoring has been phenomenal but that can't wrap up the MVP no questions asked - as folks like Kerr have suggested - at the season's halfway point.

I agree, it's stupid logic to give him the award based on that performance. I have a feeling he will get it though, it's a media voted award and that was something the media are still talking about... I think they'll vote him, I just hope by seasons end the Lakers are in a good play off position and the votes can be justified.

I would love Kobe to win it, and I hope he does, but I feel it will end up being Steve Nash again. Its not a knock on Chauncey, but I just feel Nash is so much more valuable to his team and he is the major reason they are where they are now. The Pistons would still have a good record without Chauncey, but I would definitely not like to see where the Suns would be without Steve.

What would make me happy though is if Kobe's team makes a good run to end the season with a OK'ish record that would make a decent argument to justify the MVP.
