Well, he did get half a million votes, which, even if he were on the ballot didn't deserve half of. Add to the fact that he was a write-in candidate, and you can't really say the argument went to hell. Yao is still starting for the sixth straight time.

Count me for the "Fans voting for all 12 players" choice. Yi's not starting, so the whole argument of "OMFG, YAO MADE IT 'COZ HE'S CHINESE!!one1!!" went to hell.

yao still only started over shaq cause his was asian, just cause yi is not starting does not disprove that.

Yao only received 1,709,180 votes this season. Kobe, Melo, Duncan, Garnett, Lebron, and even Howard received more votes than Yao. I think it's pretty safe to say that Yao starting this year is mostly not due to the fact of him being azn. We can even discount the possibility of the decrease in Yao votes, as compared to the past seasons, of Yi stealing some of Yao's votes because they play in a different position and conference.

Do you guys think that all of Yao's votes in his first year were of Chinese people? There are like a billion of them, don't you think he would had maybe a little more? I think it was more due to the fact that people in the U.S. (and around the world) got caught in the hype of a 7'5 azn.

As opposed to a 7'0 shooter from Germany?

Besides, not all those 1 billion have access to the internets. And the Chinese in the U.S. or Canada are probably busy with work and not bother with voting for an all-star game.

How much hype did Dirk got in his first year?

I'm not sure if you're trying to argue with me or trying to prove my point.

But not busy enough to keep from posting in that basketball-related forum. I forgot, what was the name of it again? Oh, yeah, the NLSC.

Why couldn't it be both?

If fan voting decided the entire rosters for both teams this year, based on the results the teams would be as follows:

East

C: Dwight Howard
F: Kevin Garnett
F: LeBron James
G: Dwyane Wade
G: Jason Kidd

Bench:

Ray Allen
Vince Carter
Shaquille O'Neal
Chris Bosh
Gilbert Arenas
Chauncey Billups
Paul Pierce

Yi would just miss the cut, having garnered fewer votes than Paul Pierce.

West

C: Yao Ming
F: Tim Duncan
F: Carmelo Anthony
G: Kobe Bryant
G: Allen Iverson

Bench:

Dirk Nowitzki
Tracy McGrady
Amare Stoudemire
Steve Nash
Chris Paul
Carlos Boozer
Manu Ginobili

A couple of those selections would be questionable but on the whole there's a lot of players there who are likely to be selected by the coaches.
