Blech - this keeps happening to random players; for example Tony Allen jumped for a dunk and came down and busted something a few months ago. Weird.

Man that video is hard to watch, the guys on NBA TV warned viewers before showing it, because it's so graphic... :shock:

He's had a hard run with injuries, it's too bad...

I don't think he'll be playing at a high level ever again. Much like antonio mcdyess or kenyon martin. Maybe he should consider going to college while he is still young.

...and mdertz i dont think you can go to college once you've hit the pros...probably some ncaa rule...

I mean study, I don't think he'll ever play competitive basketball again... most likely he'll sit out next season, of which is the final year of his contract. Coming from an injury like that and his contract ending. Who do you think will sign him?

Caught the footage on YouTube, simply brutal. Here's hoping Livingston can return one day but given the damage that's going to be a very tough injury to bounce back from, to put it mildly.

The worst part about that injury was that play had stopped but he went up for the dunk anyway. Had he come to a stop he wouldn't have suffered that awkward landing. You can't fault him for it of course since so many players have done it countless times before him; it was just a stroke of very bad luck.

The boy is only 21 years old... I think Amare is a living example of how you can bounce back from a serious injury when you are still young.

Missing 12 months of basketball will seem like a life time for him though. Just missing a couple of months can really feel like a decade when you've played it regularly for 10+ years.

The injury is ugly and sounds something you wouldn't wish even on your worst enemy... I hope he recovers to play again. Young guys going down with injuries like this is always tough...

This is more serious that Amare's. Everyone comes back from microfibic (or whatever he had), just some are not them old selves. This is more than an ACL, he tore 2 other things (3/4 of his leg) and also ACL have ended some carrers.

I agree, this is FAR more serious than Amare's injury. He tore all but one of the muscles in his knee, dislocated the knee cap, and dislocated his patella.

That's so sad to see, but I'm afraid his career is now over. This is probably the worst sounding (and looking) injury I've ever seen. I mean, how much more damage could he have possibly done to his knee? He's a point guard... he needs speed, agility, and after this, there's no way he will be as good as before. I hope he has a good retirement plan.

it is a pretty bad injury..but he is young though..hopefully after a couple months of rehab and healing he'll be back in a couple years

A few players have come back from ACL reconstruction, but i've never even heard of a basketball players tearing all 3 knee ligaments.

Shaun always had problems with injury with that wire body of his, he may be done. I'm glad he has $8M still coming to him.

well since he actually already has the money, yes he can retire. He'll obviously have to invest his money wisely, and in no time he can build a small fortune.

Sorry for going off topic, but if he had $2 million and only spent $50 000 a year, he'd run out of that money by the time he's 60. And I think he's eligible for a pension by then, and if I'm not mistaken, there's also an NBA Players pension too. It's just interesting to compare regular guys who earn $50 000 a year vs an early retired NBA player.

Edit: Not including taxes or interest.

If you are going to go off topic, at least know what you are talking about. Sure he'd run out at 60 if he had the 2 million burried in soup cans in the back yard. I'm talking about interest folks. Invested conservatively, say a 5% return, $2 million would return $100,000 per year. So, in theory, he would never run out of money. He could easily live off of the interest.

i thought he got a extension?...but if you meant study sure...if he can't come back then he should try to get involved in the L business wise

All I can say is that weird things have happened... It is a bad injury, but TJ Ford is another example of a kid going down with a serious injury and coming back and be him self. Although there is Jay Williams for an example of not getting back to his former glory.

I'm just saying that at 21 years old... Don't count the man out already. If he was 30, then he would be done, but not at 21. Well, we will hear reports about this from time to time I guess... So all the best for Shaun and be back... Young players are always needed and missed.
