Look at the topic sentence of the thread.

Um no. I'm with Cyanide with this. When talking about a contender in pro sports that means you have a ligament shot at winning the championship. The nets are barely going to make the playoffs, if they barely make the playoffs then they are far from contenders. They are in the same boat as the Clippers, Nuggets etc

Ouch...What a terrible loss to the Celtics. Allowed two 3's with under 30 seconds to go and went to overtime, and lost. (N)
New Jersey Nets - Kidd, Carter, Jefferson. Looking to make the playoffs.

How is this even an argument. Gedas was referring to the Nets being definite contenders for the playoffs, that's all there is to it.

Despite the disappointing loss to Boston, the Nets have been playing really well recently and unfortunately, at this rate they could take the Atlantic. I don't see them missing the playoffs, but unless they win their joke of a division, they have no chance at making the second round imo.

I really can't see them winning their division, unfortunately. The Raptors are playing great basketball, and the Nets have to face some of the toughest Western Conference opponents on the road in the next 6 games. I guess we'll have to wait and see what kind of an impact RJ makes on his return. The Knicks, Magic, Pacers, Heat, and Nets are all bidding on playoff spots, and are all very tight in the race.

The Magic I see aren't much of a threat right now despite. They rarely win games as of late. The Knicks however could be a problem for NJ, since they are right on their tail and have been actually playing well.

The Nets are only 3.5 games behind. I want the Raps to win the Atlantic, so I hope that New Jersey slips on this roadtrip but I think they will at least go 2-4 or better. I may be wrong though about them making the second round. If they get a 5-7 seed they have a pretty good chance against mediocre teams.
