It's just a sleeve, yeah Cy! But it is the LeBron man! The Man, man!
Anyway, on ESPN they reported that he just has some problem with his elbow...

What a thread.

Alot of people need a little something to calm them down ...after a hard foul or an intense game for example...to keep them focused. I say more power to him if he wants to show love to his family and they keep him calm enough to help his FT %...now when his FT % goes down you'll start to wonder...

i heard them say that also, about why he kisses his wrist.

also i know a game and practice is completly different but if you practice something enough you become so comfortable with it that nothing will throw you off. people today dont actually sit and practice free throws anymore. i told people i used to shoot 200 a day, 100 when i got to the court and 100 before leaving. people thought i was crazy. it is a lost art in a time when free throws are more important than anything. refs send players to the line for no reason at all. hell if you can hit 80% from the line and are a big name player you are guarenteed atleast 8 points per game now.

Practice doesnt make perfect if you're doing it wrong, which alot of NBA players do with FT's. Secondly...even shooting 200 a day, as was said "a little breath" or a kiss on both wrists as lebron's been starting to do; could calm your emotions to put you back CLOSER to practice mode. Think about it. shooting 200 at practice: no crowd, no other players, no situational factors influence it. It becomes a totally different event. The task difficulty is exponentially higher than the practice FTs. Yes practicing can help and yes it is a lost art, i'm not going to disagree. But practice cant do it all.

hey i am all for a routine at the line but its worthless if you dont practice too. its my opinion that most players in the nba wont and have never practiced free throws unless they were forced too by a coach.

i myself have a routine at the line, so i am fine with that, but i think its crazy to think that doing something like blowing a kiss will in any way effect your ft percentage. perhaps someone can post some numbers to prove me wrong here though.

what i'm trying to explain: A host of things psychologically come into play with an event in sport: no matter what it is. Lets see you practice 200 FTs before and after practice. In practice, that's fine. You may shoot 80% lets say to be generous.

Now you're in a game. Fans are watching, coaches, teammates, refs. The pressure has already multiplied. Add in game situations; a hard intentional foul, a close game, a dirty play etc. and it gets exponentially worse. The point of the "gimmick" in the routine is to make a non-routine situation seem routine. It will increase percentage substantially when done correctly. Air Gordon above posted a change in Lebron's FT % since he started doing it. While still not stellar, it seems to have helped him get his composure back at the line as compared to the first week of the season.

About the NBA players not practicing FTs; do you have a citation of that somewhere? do you go to NBA practices often? i'm just curious. I'd love to see proof of that. I'd believe it sure just because of the focus of the game, but i believe most NBA coaches would require it.

What I'm thinking. Don't think you'd get this type of thread in a football forum.

"Wow, anyone see Ronaldinho's new head band? I wonder what it could mean...?"

of course i cant prove it, its just my opinion that todays players dont think it is important to practice them and only do it if forced to by the coach.

Is it a bit of a coincidence that now Dwyane Wade, LeBron and Amare are all wearing sleeves?

I don't think that's true at all. If you go to games an hour and a half early you see players shooting free throws all the time. If they do it that often before games, I'm sure they do it plenty in the gym during practices and their own time.

Wants to be Iverson? Lebron James doesn't need to be Iverson, he's got his own level.
