Best in the game (NOW)

Based both on their individual quality and the impact they have on their team:

1. Kobe Bryant (best player)
2. LeBron James (a great all-around package (at least on offense), has a tremendous impact on his team)
3. Tim Duncan (the best team player, impacts his team on both sides of the court all the time)
4. Dirk Nowitzki (team success has rised his stock. A tremendous offensive player with a developing defensive game)
5. Kevin Garnett (probably the best all-around player in the League, but the lack of success team-wise hurts him)
6. Dwyane Wade (no defense, a primadona, but still unstoppable going to the basket (although refs have quite a role in that manner))
7. Paul Pierce (an incredibly effective offensive player. Can rebound, score from anywhere on the court and - when motivated - also defend)
8. Shaquille O'Neal (his decline is obvious, but the impact he has on the team is obvious. Sure, there are other players who draw double teams in the post, but very few have the passing ability to use that situation)
9. Elton Brand (a shotblocker, man defender, midrange shooter, post scorer,... Does everything and does everything good)
10. Allen Iverson (a ballhog, a fucking moron and a totally ineffective scorer, but he's still a unique and incredible talent)

LeBron is the best player in the NBA right now. I really can't argue that point any other way. Kobe is still a phenom, but I have no doubt in my mind that LeBron is better.

IMO Kobe's a better scorer, leader, shooter and defender, LeBron's a better passer, rebounder and is probably more team oriented... that being said, Kobe's also got that killer instinct LeBron himself said he lacked, I'd give Kobe the edge for now.

I think you guys forgot lebron led the league in last second shots made or whatever you call that category(making shots when the clock is down to 5 i think) it doesnt really have to be a buzzer beater...i think that makes him better or now you can compare him with kobe...just giving you guys some considerable info...

Kobe will remain ahead of Lebron for maybe one more season before LBJ takes over. It doesnt matter how many shots he made in the last 5 seconds this season, because its well known Kobe's more clutch but carmelo is the clutchest

I dont even like kobe but he is still better than LBJ at this moment

Matt/Shep, Nobody is questioning how good dirk is, well nobody worth responding in depth to anyway. My question to you was how could you list shaq ahead of wade after the past 2 seasons? I know shaq gets double teamed, but thats the nature of the business when you're a centre. As i said before, if thats your main criteria, then why is Iverson ahead of Yao and Shaq?

You're entitiled to that, but opinion alone isnt convincing. I know Lebron is great, I have him at 3rd behind Kobe and wade, so I wont argue too much and i know in 3 years from now we probably wont even be having this discussion. But kobe has 3 rings, knows what to do out there on the court in terms of winning where as lebron seems to be running on instinct alone right now.

Lebron to his credit has improved in thise area though. 2 game winners in one series against the wizards was the reason they advanced to the 2nd round and you have to remember, all the great ones, including kobe, have struggled early in their career closing out games in the dying seconds.

Well, if you add Amare in its more of a projection for next year. If we're doing it that way, my list is different. I think people forget that 2 years ago JO would have made every single one of these lists. Even a year ago, he would have been on here. I think he'll be back as a top 10 player in the NBA again this year.

He shoots 42% from the field for his career and 40% in the playoffs. I wouldn't call that exactly an 'effective scorer' compared to other high scoring guards of the past and present. And he is a fucking moron for his attitude, for everything he represents and for the way he acts. He's the guy who had to get to the shooting of the SLAM cover, showed up 10 or so hours late (he managed to miss two straight planes) and when he finally came there, he wanted to end to end the whole thing after 10 or 20 minutes because he wanted to go to the party. He's an immature moron, who doesn't get how influental he is. He's a 30 year old millionare who shows young children than being a rebel and a gangsta brings you millions and yet he doesn't get that being a basketball player is privilege and that he's an idol who many look up to. That's why he's a 'fucking moron'.

so many factors.. people use different criteria to determine this...which is the "right" one to use??

imo- Bryant probably is the best individual talent in the league. maybe Dirk Diggler is 2nd behind him in that department

factoring in team record/success, stats, individual accolades, and all the other stuff makes it a little tough to say who exactly is the "best" IMO

a healthy Tracy McGrady would be the best player in the NBA... along with his fine offensive skills, he was a beast on defense... and that was done without a dominating center. the same could be said about Duncan (healthwise). but we're not dealing in hypothetical

Finally someone thinks alike......... All I hear is Kobe this, Vince that, LeBron this, Wade that... I think people have forgotten how good guys like Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan are because they "Fell off" last year. If everyones basing it on last season, wheres Melo?

I'd like to agree but Kobe is a step above Bron-Bron when it comes to dominating a game, remember dude is only 21 years old, BUT he will be hell in a few more years, however all-around Lebron has no peer. KOBE DOES NOT MAKE HIS TEAM BETTER.

As far as D-wade goes, reminds me of a young MJ, but at his young age he has an awesome move air jordan could only dream of: Stiff arm=free throws, sorry Dirk.

C'mon man, Dwayne Wade definitely showed hes better than Dirk in the playoffs. Dirk is a brilliant offensive player during the regular season, but in the playoffs he showed he is soft and a choker.

It's very easy to choke when you go to basket hard, get chokeslamed by Haslem/Shaq/Zo and don't get to the line, gotta kill a guys confidence you know.

Well, let's just say not picking up the slack is not something a top player does during a season, I personally think KG was unhappy and tanking it last year to get a trade.

Elton Brand is a throwback to the great powerforwards of the 80's and early 90's I could only wish he played for Houston.

Melo was the step-child last season, he really stepped his game up but seems like no one noticed, he should have been an all-star no doubt but he is not in the top tier.
