his last year with memphis he did pretty good.......but the 1 year he played for the rockets, very dissapointing, it was like he wanted to be like juwan howard and shoot jumpers.........

The only thing that Stro can do is put down dunks and block shots.

I think Houston did a good job to get rid of him and his outragous tract.

i think this trade was a steal for houston.... houston doesn't need another star or a young prospect. They need character, defense, and consistency... battier guarantees that. Who cares if gay is going to be a star... houston has two of those already; they need to win NOW. Swift imo was a throwin from houston's side, I don't think memphis demanded or even wanted him... from my pov the guy is a waste of salary; good riddance.

battier is the perfect fit and absolutely what houston needed... battier at the 3 and tmac at the 2 is a dream. gay and swift, if they had stayed in houston, would be benchers, screw potential - I say 2 bench players for a bonafide starter is a steal for a team that wants to win sooner rather than later. houston already has more than enough clutter on that roster.... they need to focus.

that said houston still has a lot of work to do, but I think they took a step in the right direction. They need to get rid of a lot of the crap on that roster and simply build smartly around yao/tmac/battier. I don't know how they're going to do that though considering the rest of the team is basically trash and they have no real bargaining chips.

I wonder if they could get evans, I think houston would be the best fit for him:

yao/mutombo
evans/howard
battier/bowen
tmac/snyder
alston/sura (competing to start?)

that looks more than solid to me... and if yao and tmac are healthy next year the skys the limit. Maybe trade head for a veteran wing player, or package him and alston for a better pg.

imagine if houston had acquired nash a couple of years back.....

Some stuff that magius said I wouldn't agree with. Jerry West did want Swift because he has said it so many times that he loves Swift athletic ability and the fact that the Grizzlies need a shot blocker on their team. As far as saying if Swift and Gay would've stayed in Houston, they wouldn't have been starters is false. It's easy to say that Gay would've started and if he didn't at the beginning of the year, he would have sometime during the season because Gay's talent is tremendous. And I also wouldn't say the trade was a steal for Houston either, Battier is a very solid player and will help Houston out alot, but it really all depends on what you want. The Grizzlies already have plenty of character on their team so there really wasn't a need for a Battier, what they didn't have was a shot blocker and a guy that can become a star other than Pau. So there won't really be no telling of what will happen until we see results is what I'm thinking. I think both teams came out good in this deal because they got what they needed.
