Shaq's finals series wasn't his fault at all, Dallas locked him down with 2-3 defenders and none of the open players responded with shots besides Dwayne Wade.
He's going to be remembered as one of the best centers ever, Ben Wallace probably doesn't have much of a chance of doing that.

shaq being a monster is dominating ben wallace in OFFENSE, ben is known for defense, they say defense wins championships but that doesnt help for shit when they score more than you. Even though shaq is old he is still better than ben. Ben will likely not have a chance to become a scorer that shaq is. AND BEN CANT SHOOT FOR SHIT. atleast shaq makers clutch freethrows.

Scoring isn't the only thing that matters, but its just as important as defence, if not more important.
You can be the greatest defensive player in the world, but if you can't produce on the other end of the court then you become a liability on one end and can't really be very effective overall as a basketball player. The same goes for lacking defence; but teams can learn to compensate for that since nowadays teams are more run-and-gun oriented.

i don't know what you're talking about- teams are able successfully compensate on both ends of the court
a player becomes a liability/starts hurting the team when you don't even bother looking for him on offense.. similar to what Detroit was doing with Wallace in the playoffs.
i think people overrate Wallace's crappiness on offense. yeh the FT's suck but he's not even going to the FT line often... obviously you're not going to run a bunch of isolations for this guy but at the same time he is not a turnover waiting to happen. in an offense like the Bulls, where they run a lot of pick and rolls, he's going to get some open looks/not have to create shots for himself just by rolling to the basket. plus he's a good passer and gets almost 4 offensive rebounds per contest
if you're talking about a big guy who can't catch the ball, loses the ball if dribbles more then twice, is scared to have the ball when the shot clock is running down, is a weakling like Tyson Chandler.. then yes i agree that player truly is a liability on offense

Currently, i'd go for Ben Wallace.
Shaq is no longer a beast in the post, his defense is overrated. The pick and roll is Snaq's kryptonite. He's too helpless everytime the opposing team runs a pick and roll.
I was surprised that flip Saunders failed to capitalize on that when Larry Brown used the pick and roll to destroy the lakers in the finals and beat the heat in the conf finals.
