Nah he backed out because he didnt see himself fitting in properly or something. Which I think is silly since he could have been close to starting SG/SF.

TORONTO -- John Salmons backed out of a sign-and-trade deal that would have sent the swingman from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Star reported Saturday.

"Upon reviewing the basketball situation in Toronto, John decided it's not the best fit for him," Salmons' agent, Joel Bell, said a statement released Friday. "In a very stressful and tough decision, he decided he could not accept the opportunity to play for the Raptors, even though he was excited about the prospect of being in Toronto."

Raptors officials, who thought they had agreed with Salmons on a $23 million, five-year deal as part of a sign-and-trade transaction for a 2007 second-round draft pick, were surprised when he pulled out.

"I'm sorry it didn't work out, I wish him the best," Toronto president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said.

The 6-foot-6 swingman has few options. After he turned down an offer from the Phoenix Suns to supposedly sign with Toronto, a qualifying offer given him by the Sixers was rescinded Thursday. He now has no guaranteed deal anywhere for next season.

I'd probably say he backed out because he didn't feel like he wasn't getting the respect he might of thought he deserved....once Toronto had some snags in deal, maybe he thought they didn't want him bad enough....I dunno....either way, he won't get that sort of deal anywhere else....look for him to sign a 1 year deal, possibly with Lakers as a big PG & then be back on market next year & get a contract starting at half of the mid-level exemption....

so Kings are letting Bonzi go.....that's odd.

Salmons is a good player though.

Salmons is okay at best, not really a "good" player.

i wouldn't say he's good as in MLE worthy, but in Philly he's was under-utilized. I'm thinking that in Sac he'll become a better player.

Bonzi is good, physical player but he's also very expensive.

Kings are already over cap without signing Bonzi...
Bibby $12.5M
Miller $10M
Artest $7M
Thomas $7M
Corliss $7M
+SAR, Potapenko, etc..

I'm guessing it was the finance dept's decision not to sign Bonzi.
