Players that would make good coaches

As mentioned, mostly point guards since they're more play-oriented. at least most of them. Sam Cassell seems to act like an assistant coach at times as said during the playoffs interview. And I think Jason Kidd would make a good coach as well

I don't see why everyone thinks GP would be a good coach, i'm just missing it. He's not known as a guy that makes the team around him better (like Nash). Back in Seattle he was a complete ball hog, and generally disliked by the community. I'm surprised he wasn't traded sooner.

Judging from past history, coaches were good (but not great) players. Both Phil Jackson and Pat Riley were actually pretty bad in the NBA. Avery Johnson, Nate McMillan, Byron Scott, Mo Cheeks were all good but not superstars.

I'm guessing good coaches will follow the same pattern and come from the more obscure players like Charlie Ward or someone on that level.

They don't always have to necessarily be obscure players, think Lenny Wilkens.

I think everyone agrees that Kidd would make a good coach. He's helped Frank on a couple of occassions with defensive matchups and substitutions in late game situations, and he knows how to control tempo on both sides of the floor.

How about Adrian Griffin? He's one of the best vocal leaders when it comes to defense. He's not a great shooter, he's not athletic, yet it's his IQ that's keeping him in this league. He's an intelligent player, and I think he could do well as a part of a coaching staff.

Chris Paul would make a great one because he could make a terrible team into a playoff contender in one season.

eddie jones would make a good coach he takes rookies under his wing as a player throughout his career.

Tim Duncan would be a good low post coach because he is mr. fundamental. I think the good head coaches would be GP, Chauncey Billups, and Kevin Garnett.

And Rasheed Wallace :lol:

... he would get thrown out every game.

Brian Shaw is being groomed to be Phil Jackson's sucessor in 2 years.

Phil and Tex thinks he's gonna be a good coach when the time comes and that's all i need to know to be assured that the lakers will be left in very capable hands.

Adam Morrison hes young but described as "like a coach on the floor" in a lot of his scouting reports and he is said to be very passionate.

David Robinson would put his team through navy workouts, and get them as jacked as he was, and probably still is

J Kidd would be a good coach cuz he seems to be a pretty good motivator for his team

Nash would be a good assistant coach in charge of offense, because he seems to know where the holes are in zones, and spots mismacthes easily, but knows nothing at all about how to play D

If Sam Cassel starts making personnell decisions then hes a head coach, cuz he does most of the other stuff already
