that sucks (N). Those shit were cool (Y).My favorite player is wearing them (vince carter).
Too bad they wouldn't be able to wear them next year. (N)

IMO its stupid to ban them. Watch, the next trend will be playing with grillz in your mouth and the league will ban that because they think it blinds the opponents eyes when being guarded.

what purpouse does wearing ANNY gear when playing serve?

What's the puropuse of Rubberbands?
What's the puropuse of Calf/Leg/Arm sleeves?
What's the puropuse of Headbands?

Why cant people just play with socks, shoes, shorts, and a jersey nothing else?

Jordan had the arm-band, because he used to sweat profusely, and he stated that if when he had it at the wrist, the sweat would drip to his hand, making it difficult to play, and if he wore a headband, it conflicted with his vision. The calf band was due to a later injury, in which he missed some games.

man banning such things as tights.. man, nba really being a bitch about everything.

They might just ban the 'Fro and the wavy hairs. Since it distracts defenders so easily, imagine defending Big Ben when he posts up, all his hair goes into your mouth. :?

Those shooting guards, Jordan, Vince, Kobe, and T-Mac, if you'll notice will always end up wtih sleeves or bands on their left calf/knee...because they shoot thousands of jumpshots in practice, coming down with most of their weight on their left leg over and over again. Thus they inevitably develop tendinitis in that leg.

As for the tights, they are a pretty un needed thing, but as if they need to ban them....somebody shoot Stern already, hes becoming a faggot.

Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:30 pm

yeah, he is. Next he'll ban all shoes except plain black or plain white ones. Why don't they just play in shorts and jerseys? 2 articles of clothing. totally ridiculous

Fri Mar 31, 2006 6:01 pm

Kobe wore them for a while starting in the preseason and everyone bagged him for wearing stockings. He says that they are leg warmers...

Fri Mar 31, 2006 6:17 pm

The tights do look a bit silly and I don't think I'd find them comfortable or better to play in personally, but banning it is going a bit too far. It doesn't help that they'll go lightly on other issues (like Bruce Bowen's dirty play) and make a big deal over the dress code, even though they're within their rights to specify one.

Hey, does anyone remember when Sam Perkins tried to play his Pre-Season games with a do-rag?

Sam Perkins was the man, now THERE'S a guy who could've worn these tights and still been cool.

Fri Mar 31, 2006 8:48 pm

good riddance to them... they just look stupid

that said, i dont know what the problem with them is, it shouldnt be up to the NBA to decide what players wear, especially since sometimes theyre worn for medical reasons.

True that, up there with Charles Oakley and Chuck Norris.

Fri Mar 31, 2006 8:57 pm

LOL, big smooth always looked like he was stoned, anyway. I'd forgive him for wearing tights. 8-) But really, that ban isn't helping anyone. Why would they forbid something that makes players look LESS cool?

Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:16 pm

I thought Kobe was the one who made it popular in the preseason... oh well.

I do think its a bit crazy though. Banning the tights? Cmon David, dont you have better things to do? Its even funny with the dress code thing where he has them wearing these suit thingies and got rid of the 'gangsta' look yet they are still promoting the nba with hip-hop tracks in their ads and such. Stern is like that evil daddy who takes away every toy you like and has you wearing your pants way above your belly button like a queer.

soo stupid

I find this both, funny and stupid at the same time. What the hell is going on with the Stern dude. Guy is going freakin' nuts. Next thing will be tattoo ban or something.... .

Sat Apr 01, 2006 2:54 am

let the short shorts era begin...

Sat Apr 01, 2006 4:29 am

Well the article does say that players with a doctor's note will be able to wear them.

I don't really like the tights either, but as everyone else already said, let the players wear what they want to wear.

And as for the league trying to "clean up their look", since when do you see "gangsters" wearing tights? In my opinion, the tights take away from the Hip-Hop look and add to the balerina look.

Now that you mention it, expanding their campaign to their ads/DVDs wouldn't be such a bad idea. It might mean that DJ Clue never hosts another "Dunks!" DVD again, which would be one of the best decisions NBA Entertainment has made since Doctor J hosted "Super Slams 2".
