Amare out... again

At least Webber can pass and bend his knees. Shut him down, Phoenix, why the hell would you wanna risk all those tens of millions you threw at him without even checking his knees?

What did I say before? Ah well, props to him for giving it a shot. It was always risky. As long as they don't gamble on him and make things worse it will be ok. And about this knee surgery, Zach Rudolph had one done right and he's sorta still recovering if you can consider him to be playing at 70-80%... So yeh, Resting him till next season is the smartest option IMO right now.

Well, you mostly said it might hurt the chemistry which isn't necessarily the case. I never said he was at 100%, only that if he was right to go he wouldn't be a cancer. And since he's not right to go, they're shutting him down again, so it's unlikely his (so far) brief return is going to cause lasting damage.

There are a few risks invovled like... maybe reinjuring himself? (I'm not sure if he could... but isn't there a chance that he could?) Could he ruin the team's chemistry which is doing so well without him? Why not let him sit out the rest of the season and see what Nash and Marion and the Suns can do in the playoffs... after all, if he sat out the rest of the season, everyone would be more confident that he will and he should be 100% for the new season.

I don't think Suns fans want to see him put too much stress on his knee so that he turns into maybe a Kenyon Martin, Chris Webber or any other player who has had the same surgery in the past... the chances might not be as high... but there is still a chance.

That's true, and I did have to concede that there was a health risk. But the suggestion (not from you necessarily but it did come up in that thread) was that it could potentially de-rail the Suns heading into the playoffs. While Amare is back on the shelf, that needn't happen to Phoenix.

Yeah thats true. Well, I just want the Suns to put him away if he's not 100% and that's the case now. So it's all cool. If he wasn't fit and they kept playing him... now that wouldn't be too smart.

A lot of guys never come back from knee surgery...the tendon and cartilage down there never heal, it can only be replaced artifically and the unavoidable scar tissue can permanently reduce flexibility.

Guys that come back usually change their game to be less explosive and more IQ based, like Bernard King or Chris Webber or Jason Kidd.

I hope that's not the case w/ Amare, he was such a good thing for the league.

as opposed to a skilled Chris Webber? Amare's game isn't that similar to Webber's in the first place

That would indeed be a tremendous shame to see yet another rising star fade out because of an injury so early in their career, especially since Amare was shaping up to be one of this era's top big men. Personally, I hope the worst case scenario is that he's a scratch for this year and that he can come back healthy and in form next year and put this year behind him.

On NBA.com under NBA TV Broadband, there is a link to an interview David Aldridge had with D'Antonio about Amare's status... it doesn't sound serious at all, but they are taking extra caution with it.

heh i'm a little surprised a knee injury gave Amare better offensive awareness, a 10ft jump hook, and passing skills. who's your source?

Some guy at RealGM said it. I've not seen him (or Webber for that matter) recently.

oh, probably some kings fans. they tend to make amare look useless so they can feel better about Ron Ron and their own team.

I thought Amare was about to tear the league a new one after scoring 20 points in 19 minutes in his first game back. I seriously hope that he doesn't fall into the Penny/Houston scenario.
