Actually, Paul Pierce is known for his great 4th quarter play, not only the last the 3 minutes specifically but more the whole 4th quarter. Especially when the Celtics had Fatione and had some pretty deep playoff runs.

Wally Szczerbiak and Michael Olowokandi for Paul Pierce

It could happen. :lol:

Sun Nov 06, 2005 3:38 am

Kobe, DWade, Gilbert, Vince > Paul

Pierce is always somewhere up top in points per 4th Q but when the game is on the line, no one can match what Kobe does....he hits shots he's not supposed to.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 3:46 am

Yeah I believe Pierce lead the league in 4th quarter scoring a few years ago.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 5:00 am

So I'm guessing this means the Celtics wouldn't do a Pierce for Kobe trade :lol:

Sun Nov 06, 2005 5:32 am

if this was a couple years ago maybe during the 2001-2002 season i might agree with paul.. however now, i don't think he can match up with kobe. the guy's good but he's not on kobe's level offensively and defensively. he's probably better at drawing fouls and rebounding, but everything else is pretty suspect

Sun Nov 06, 2005 7:36 am

i could understand pierce thinking he's the best SG in the game. nba players need to have kind of confidence and/or "edge"

but what i don't get is why he's bringing up Bryant's name? was the reporting fishing for a quote? boston is not playing LA anytime soon

pierce is a great player. boston still managed to win their division despite being in a rebuidling stage. he did have a brain far in that indy series though

i'd put him in the top echelon of SG's

Sun Nov 06, 2005 7:47 am

Come on Pauly, you know you're not better than Bryant... Or Wade... Or McGrady... Iverson, yes. But come on...

Just when I thought Paul Pierce might have put his head on straight he goes and blows it all up again.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 7:47 am

kobe is obviously better than pierce, but i agree 150% that kobe was incredibly lucky to have played with shaq. every guard shaq has ever played with has blossomed and that is not a fluke - he takes incredible pressure off guards, makes the game easier, produces wins single-handedly, all leading to an easy and underrated increased confidence and attitude of his teammates; when things are going your way, everything is easier, its the domino effect. not to say that kobe would've been nothing without shaq, but i do not think he would've become what he is without him; shaq pushed him to become the best he could possibly be despite their differences.

of course this is all hypothetical, and the fact does remain shaq hasnt won a ring without kobe..... but bill russel hasnt won a ring without cousy, mj none without pip, yet we all know which of the two was more important, and it is a given that either wouldve found some measure of success elsewhere. it takes nothing from them, because of two facts: they not only have a championship ring, they have an mvp, and they have finals mvp; the 3 infallible measuring sticks. of course, the fact is that shaq spent his prime in la, so we will never know, but the safe bet is he would've, considering he had decent playoff success in his early stretches at orlando, and miami.

what do you expect him to do?
the face of boston to come out and say, "I am worse than Kobe."

shit, wont that go down well with the fans :roll:

Maybe he could say nothing at all ...

Ergo, Pierce is a better person. Since any player is a person, then Pierce is a better player as well. (Just joking!)

Pierce = better person.
Pierce = player = person
Kobe = player = person
Pierce = better player!

Even if he didn't rape, Pierce didn't commit adultery so that still makes him a better person. Therefore better player! Just joking... somewhat

However in all seriousness Kobe seems to be the better player. Who knows how much better Pierce would have been if he had a great big man though? Maybe this is a sign Pierce will sign with Miami for mid level next year to join his old pal Toine? Probably not, but I can dream... Hey, the "Maybe GP and Karl Malone will join LA" worked a long time ago!

Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:37 am

Pierce hasn't really amazed me.

Kobe > Paul

Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:55 am

Pierce can say he's the best shooting guard in the league. There is nothing wrong with that, but why did he single out Kobe Bryant?

Is he just looking for attention? That's what it seems like to me... :roll:

Sun Nov 06, 2005 9:56 am

Seems to me that the reporter must have asked him something directly relating to Kobe Bryant.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:16 am

Pierce didn't commit adultery so that still makes him a better person.

That doesnt make any sense. Maybe Pierce likes to smack mentally challenged children off the court. You dont know him.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:29 am

Pierce didn't have a chance to commit adultery.. before being smashed..

Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:34 am

No Shit Sherlock.

Well for some people its not that obvious. Paul Pierce is one of them.

I was talking about your preference, putting into context your username, avatar and your previous posts. Its pretty obvious you'd prefer Kobe Bryant over anybody in the league so you don't need to state who you prefer because its rather obvious.

Damn I just cant stay away from this thread, PAUL TO THE CLIPPERS!

Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:35 am

And here I am thinking the rumours of Pierce saying "I'm the best attempted murderer in the World, your stabbing aint got nothing on mine, you're just lucky to have one of the best knives ever" were untrue.

Just because hes my favorite player that doesnt mean that I would pick him over anyone in the league. You better not become a detective!

Sun Nov 06, 2005 3:01 pm

did he really say that he was better than Kobe? if so I'm foreseeing a kickass from Kobe when he plays Pierce.

The Celtics also had a better all-round team that had been together and retained the same coach for more than 1 season. The Lakers had an entire core of new players and had all sorts of coaching dramas. Compare them after this season and we'll get a more accurate picture.
