I'm feeling guilty about this, because in the Amare's contract thread I wrote something like "I hope his knees will hold up"...

So, how about Phoenix?
Jimmy Jackson isn't a starter anymore, but a rather good bench player. Grant can't start either. Besides he's slooow at this stage of his career, and therefore really ill-suited for the running game. Bell will start at the two.
Thomas is a good screen and roll player, since he has a nice jumper.
Marion will have to sacrifice himself at the 4 for another half-year...

:| My guess is the starting 5 will be

Thomas
Marion
Jones
Bell
Nash

Diaw is more versatile than James Jones at every aspect of the game but one -offense- He has no range on his shot whatsoever, which makes him the best inbound passer on the suns team, and that's about it... The fact is Jones can hit the 3, and doesn't really need to handle in the way Diaw would since there is that Nash guy running the show. They just need guys that can knock down the open shots. Boy, are they going to miss Q...

Too bad for the Suns, I don't think they are out of the playoffs race yet, they might not get the top 4 spots but they should be able to get the 6th-8th seed, assuming Amare is back by the all-star break. Meanwhile, everybody have to steps up now and take whatever fast break points they can get from Nash. On both offence and defence, they are very weak now. For the time being, lets hope Amare gets well now.

I don't think of Jones as a better player than Diaw, although he did have some strong games for the Pacers last year. I just think of him as a guy who could be a starter based on his ability to do one thing very well- shoot the 3- a Kyle Korver one-dimensional yet effective kind of guy. Diaw, on the other hand is the typical guy that does a lot of things, but isn't great at any of them, and his shot does suck (0-12 from the line at the European Championship?)

If I'm Mike D'Antoni, I can't help but feel this whole offseason could have gone just a little bit better, to say the least.

Matt wrote:But at least we ge to see how Nash will play. He'll be nothing more than a fluke of a MVP if he can't lead the suns to the playoffs.

I was just thinking the same thing. It might even clinch victory for one side in the whole "Is Nash a worthy MVP?" debate. As you said, if he truly is the most valuable player on that team he should be able to find a way to keep the Suns afloat.

In short: Diaw might be a better player, but Jones is best suited for the team's stile of play. :)

If the Suns can run, they will make the play-offs... They have lots more depth than they ever had last season... So they might not be out of the picture. I think losing Amare to an injury for as long as this will probably lift everyone elses game...

Nash has always quarterbacked a high scoring offense, so I don't expect that to change, but the additions of this summer better up their game...

Diaw played pretty well in the Euro Championships, so I think he will get the nod to start, but he might start at Small Forward and James start at Shooting Guard. With Bell coming off the bench with Jimmy J to ignite the bench players. Brian Grant will not be starting, that should be obvious to anyone...

I hope Amare fully recovers from this... Good things are that he's still young and they caught it at an early phase so the damage already done was probably not that extensive...

Suns should at least win 50% of their games until Amare returns... thatway, they could still make a run for the playoffs!

I know the surgery is a big risk and has flopped a lot of players, but we actually don't know anything about this... There are many things that play a major role with the recovery from this type of surgery... We don't know at what stages the other people were diagnosed and when they got the surgery done. Most of the players that have really been hindered by this injury have been numerous years older than Amare...

We just basically don't know anything... I just hope that he comes back as exposive as he was against the Spurs. He would be just incredible to follow as he would go on destroying opponents defenses with his athletic ability... He scored 37ppg on Duncan in the West finals... That is something no one has done in a while... Or ever...

I hope there's some huge [Sarcasm][/Sarcasm] quotes there somewhere... Amare is a guy who couldn't be stopped...

If he hadn't had his knee give out, he would have scored 35-40ppg for the season... He is just that unstoppable... If this doesn't slow him down, I'm talking similar domination as Kareem, Moses, Wilt have done in the past... 90's Shaq is another good example, but I think Amare could top them all, if he recovers well.

Amare is a true scoring machine that there is no match for! JJ couldn't take it that some young dude just comes in and becomes the man, so he had to leave...
