Childress is much less athletic, shorter, has a jump shot and good potential at this aspect of his game, better basketball IQ and is more competitive than Miles. In fact, Smith is much more similar to Darius.

Granted I havent seen much of childress play, his jumper does look very questionable at this stage. Athleticism (wingspan included) are about the same. However I will concede he does have better basketball intelligence

I'd say questionable at best. Don't see what's great about neither Childress or Smith. Granted that Smith can fly, and that Childress has great size; but still I don't see anything good or great in them.

ESPN Radio reporting Sun's JJ talk of sign and trade with Hawks
Just heard that Suns/Hawks discussing a sign and trade. Can't remember the exact details but sounded like the Suns get a player (Boris Diaw)/two 1st round picks/mid-level exemption.

Diaw could be a good player. His skill set is very JJ-like (incredible ballhandler at 6'9'', great defender) but without the jumpshot. He's too unselfish, but he has good potential. And if the picks are only top 3-6 protected -

for the Suns.

if suns decided to go after finley ? will finley be able to replace jj?
Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:15 am
Finley is a good player and I think a better player than Joe but that is my opinion...I think he would be a good fit in Phoenix and would help them a lot in the clutch....

How did Childress remind anyone of Daruis Miles? Childress is a guy that can play multiple positions, 2-3, and a little PG maybe once in a while, he has a nice jumpshot, was very nice in college, but his release is low, so it makes it harder for him to get his shot over taller or more athletic defenders. He can hit open shots though, hit pull-ups fairly well, and hit's his FT's.
He reminds me a little of Shane Battier in that he's not a guy that will be a star, but he's a hardworking guy that can do it all, but is not a master of anything. He's also shown very good ability in getting to the basket, and he rebounds well. He's not a Miles type athlete by any means, he doesn't have a 40 inch vertical, his is 35 inches, and he doesn't have very long arms, and he's not very fast or quick. Josh Smith would be a better comparison to Miles in that area, but he's not really like him either.
For Phoenix is they get Diaw, he's a nice versatile player. His shot has improved a little, though he still has a funny release, and he's a 6'8 super athletic PG/SG/SF, who is a defensive guy, and he does have nice vision and passing skills.

rofl!

I was thinking the same thing, I could comment on the Joe Johnson situation, but it's not going to add or make a difference to what has already been said.

I agreed all the good FA are going to the EAST. I guess we're going to have a a more balanced competition from now on but still the West has the edge.
Going back to the topic. There's nothing worst than having a player playing for a team he doesn't want to play for - example: Vince Carter
Josh shooting is not that spectacular, and JJ is not as athletic as Josh so I would see them alternating the positions every now and then.
Who's saying the Hawks are a losing team? with JJ on board and the current players I would expect at least a .500 season.

Word. Childress will be a superb role player and nothing more, while Smith has the chance te become a super star - or a team cancer such as Miles.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 5:58 pm
Unbelievable.... I still can't believe that Joe Johnson doesn't want to go back to PHX.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:02 pm
It only takes one player to make the difference.
Case in point - Shaq going to Miami was enough for them to win a ticket to the Finals.
I know JJ is not Shaq but still pretty good at what he does and only 24 y/o and lots of room for improvements.
He has progressively improved in each season and I'd expect an 20/5/5 season for him. Of course he's a very good shooter, last seaosn he averaged 46% from the field and almost 48% from beyong the arc.
Hopefully, better things will come for JJ in the near future.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:05 pm
Agreed dawg.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:44 pm
Well goodluck Johnson, hope he can teach the young hawks how to become a better player. I am looking forward to see Johnson to be an allstar this season.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 10:49 pm
I think the 46% 3pt clip is hard to repeat as he wont get that many open 3pt shots as with the suns were he had STAT and MVP. A lot of people doesnt realise that its tough to score if you dont have quality teammates. In atlanta johnson will have a hard time adjusting coz the defense would zone out on him with the lack of fire power. IMO his stats wont change that much as many people predicts.

$70M!!! Holy Shit!

From recent articles, rumor is that JJ doesn't get along with Amare and felt burned by the PHO management. But the media will make up a lot these days to get a story in the off-season.
Either way, PHO is done as a contender. They've lost 2 of the most prolific 3 point shooters in the league.

what is your 'do or die' scenario based on? as mentioned earlier, miles and smith draw comparisons in the athletic department. that's about it
Tue Aug 02, 2005 8:10 am
But you felt the need to mention it again, no?
Tue Aug 02, 2005 8:20 am
yes i did as i believe just because smith is athletic like miles it doesn't automatically make him a bust candidate like miles
however thanks for your irrelevant post
you're supposed to be setting an example for forum users- control, jackal, control.
Tue Aug 02, 2005 8:21 am
You just re-said everything Fgrep said & you speak to me about setting an example. But ofcourse.
Carry on repeating Fgrep, carry on.

I don't think the Suns can nab Finley. Finley is most likely to go to the Heat (which I would love to see) even though he might go the Knicks (ESPN said it).
