Jacks isn't much better at 40% but he's hitting his 3's slightly better at 36%, 2 years ago both were scoring about the same ~18 per game. Either way, neither Artest or Jackson will draw more than single coverage shooting those kind of #s.
This is the best critisism of the pacers anyone has ever brought up to me on the board. Thank you for giving me some real evidence for what you think on the subject instead of "the pacers need a center" or "the pacers get injured too much"
Jack drew double teams pretty often last year without artest, with artest he will be able to be less of a focal point and that's where he will thrive. When he is the number one guy, he jacks up too many ill-advised shots, not because he's a hot head, but because he doesn't play the role of top dog well enough. Its just not his game. When he can be the 3rd or 4th option, he thrives.
Artest is a great offensive player, I don't even think people realize that. He shoots the three pretty well, he can drive, he's much quicker then it seems, and he actually has a pretty good first step. He can beat guys off the dribble by making an overpowering move, then finessing it. I think Artest could easily average 22 ppg if he wanted to, but he isn't the focal point of the offense, and he's much better when he uses most of his energy on the defensive end.
The main reason I see the Pacers as bigger title contenders then most give them credit for, is the front court. A front court of Dale Davis, Jermaine O'Neal and Ron Artest is scary on its own. When you throw in David Harrison, Jeff Foster, and Danny Granger as 2nd teamers, that's a damn strong and ferocious bunch of guys. I don't think you can even argue that any team in the league has even close to as deep of a front court. Also, imagine if Bender played up to his potential. The THIRD line of front court-ers would be James Jones, Jonathon Bender and Scot Pollard. That's damn good especially when you still have Autsin Croshere there.
When you have a frontcourt that is that good, combined with a back court of Tinsley (capable of putting up big points and assists) Jackson, Fred Jones, Anthony Johnson and when you want to go big, Ron artest and Granger, I think this team is the best Pacers team ever. And I have seen many tapes of the ABA days, I remember the 93,94,95 Pacer teams, and I remember the 98 team and the 2000 team that went to the finals of course.
You're points are valid, but I think they are minor flaws in an otherwise non-flawed lineup.
