Question: is any of these summer leagues making it onto national TV? I remember ESPN used to show the the Rocky Mountain League

SbHzMaFiA© wrote:As expected, Dahntay Jones had a great debut with 18 points and Hakim Warrick and Lawerence Roberts also played well. Warrick had 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Roberts had 15 points against the Lakers. Bynum look so out of shape out there because no matter how much weight he lose, it always look like he has a double chin

I believe this was the game when Roberts grabbed 16 or 17 boards along with 2 blocks.

They will be on NBA TV starting Monday, tape delayed.

its nice to see UNC players Ed Cota and Kris Lang make summer clubs....I used to love Lang...he was cool, and Cota was my sisters favorite player in college.

I loved Ed Cota in college and I hope he lands a spot in the NBA.

SL is exciting with these young players, but don't forget Qyntel Woods and Bo Outlaw dominated summer leagues.

yeh...lonny baxter was the mvp of one of them and he's not even on a nba roster lol

Antoine Wright is shooting terribly...

And Why isn't Nenad Krstic playing? He could use the playing time to learn a little more.

Nate Robinson keeps rocking on, 23 points this time. He now has an average of 21.5, not too bad. :D

Wed Jul 13, 2005 4:16 pm

Grizzlies now 3-0 after beating Dallas 108-99.

Lawerence Roberts - 31 points, 13 rebounds, 13/14 FT
Hakim Warrick- 19 points, 14 rebounds

Where can I get the scores for the Mountain Pro league and also the other summer league that Houston is in.

Woah... Wafer went crazy today vs the Grizz...

Sun Jul 17, 2005 7:15 pm

Yeah, I believe this was a good draft for Lakers. Von Wafer is reportedly showing all his potential with his athleticism, ballhandling, shooting, penetrating and incredible D. Most of the viewers agree that he could be Kobe's backup right away. Turiaf is a potential starter by the end of the season and Bynum doesn't look like a bust. Of course, he is incredibly raw, but for a 17 yrs old kid with little HS experience and in a terrible psychical condition he is doing just fine. And the latter is what surprises me the most. He lost a lot of weight since the allstar games, but this is still the guy who didn't step into a weight room untill a couple of months ago. If he really has the kind of work ethic everyone (including him) are saying he has, he could have elite body for a NBA center. 7'1''/7'2'', 300 pounds, low BF and great athleticism. He'll never be that explosive athlete in a Shaq/Amare mold, but he certainly has potential to be a top 3 centre in this league. But then again, he isn't even the best 17yr C on the world. Greg Oden, anyone?

Mike@LG, LakersGround:
Name: Von Wafer

Size:
1. Height – 6’4”
2. Wingspan – Guestimated; 6’8”
3. Weight - 205
4. Body Fat – N/A

Athleticism:
1. Lateral movement – Very good. Tonight he was facing tough assignments in Dahntay Jones and Andre Emmett. Did an excellent job defensively, forcing them into tough shots and denying penetration. Great job vs. Keith Langford, #1 option SG for Kansas. Defense never bothered him.
2. Initial quickness - NBA quickness. Repeatedly beating Emmett and Dahntay Jones, Keith Langford off the dribble.
3. Top speed – Fast. Like, Byron Scott fast.
4. Vertical leap – Excellent. Monster facial showed it tonight. Jumps quickly. Explodes to the basket. I'm guessing a 37" vert.
5. Reflexes – Quick. Allowed him to capture some steals and react quickly to loose balls. Very quick hands. Underated thief off the dribble.
6. Strength – Very skinny arms, but great leg strength.
7. Conditioning – Never looked winded
8. Footwork – From the perimeter, very solid. Has a good base for a jumpshot and fading away.
9. Balance – Very good. Didn’t get pushed on penetration.

Skill Level:
1. Offense
• Perimeter Play
• Dribble penetration – Quick off the dribble. Drove well to the basket and excelled in penetration. Keeps his head up, and when he draws the defense, attracts strong defensive attention and hits the bigman in the paint. Really puts zip on the passes. Hands must be ready at all times.
• Post play – N/A
• Off-the-ball – Good footwork off the ball. Can play like a natural SG. Has good PG instincts to drive and dish. Excellent job keeping his head up in transition, continually hitting Turiaf, Douthit, and Bynum in transition.
• Short game (0’-7’) – Fouled every time he attacked the basket. He can finish well.
• Midrange game (8’-18’) - Limited
• Long range (19’-23'9" or longer) – Showed a pull up jumpshot off of screens, jumpshots off of high pick and roll situations, pull up jumpshots off the dribble. Underrated shooter. Slight mechanics problems with a quick release. Falls in love with the fadeaway a bit too much. When he shows great shot selection within the context of the offense, it's money. When the play breaks down (which is 70% of the time), will try and create a shot. Pretty good at it too.

2. Defense
• Man to man defense
Position – Very solid. Kept up well with strong lateral quickness. Forced players to change direction or take a tough shot.
Anticipation – Surprising. Quick hands allow him to steal the ball off the dribble or when exposed.
• Off-the-ball defense
Position – Solid. Didn’t get beat by backdoor cuts.
Anticipation – Showed good ability to read the pass and cut the lane.
• Team defense
Position - Solid
Anticipation – N/A

Rebounding
1. Offensive
• Box-out – N/A
• Hustle – N/A
• Energy level – N/A
• Position – N/A
2. Defensive
• Box-out – Doesn’t box out.
• Hustle – Hustles well after loose balls.
• Energy level – Exerts high quickness when chasing the ball. Good steam.
• Position – Usually out of position for rebounding. Translates to “conservative” defensive philosophies.

Intangibles
• Leadership – N/A
• Attitude – Good attitude. High effort all over the floor.
• Work Ethic – N/A
• Competitiveness – Very competitive. Almost played at a different speed (alongside Turiaf) with his quiet intensity.
• Unselfishness – Took several bad shots out of the context of the offense. Some heat checks in the 3rd quarter led to a shooting slump.
• Toughness – Strong competitor on both ends of the floor.
• Mental – N/A

Name: Andrew Bynum
Player comparison: Kelvin Cato/Brendan Haywood.
Upside: More athletic Jamaal Magloire. Pre-injury Erick Dampier.

Size:
1. Height – 7'1/4"
2. Wingspan – 7'6"
3. Weight - 270
4. Body Fat – N/A

Athleticism:
1. Lateral movement – Good lateral movement for his size. Players like Kelvin Cato are quicker, but, he's just lazy.
2. Initial quickness - Average quickness. Not one to blow by players one on one.
3. Top speed – Average. Willing to run the floor.
4. Vertical leap – Above average. Doesn't show full vert. when he wants. Full vert. was shown on a few rebounds and blocked shots.
5. Reflexes – Good. Not stellar. Not the first to the ball. Getting by on physical characteristics. Namely wingspan.
6. Strength – Below average in the sense that his legs and explosiveness aren't prevalent for such an athlete. Not Amare Stoudemire/Shaquille O'Neal explosive. A bit mechanical.
7. Conditioning – Does get winded after 15-20 minutes of hard play. 3rd straight game in a row took all the gas out of his system.
8. Footwork – Average. Doesn't do anything fancy. Does utilize the drop step. Needs to work on an inside game along with a face up game. Jumphook. Dropstep. Face up.
9. Balance – Average. Can get knocked off the block. Doesn't use leverage well. Doesn't fall a lot either, despite all the contact he faces.

Skill Level:
1. Offense
• Perimeter Play
• Dribble penetration – N/A
• Post play – Methodical post player. Willing passer who's good at decision-making. Could be more precise. Needs go to moves. Utlizes the pivot foot well to create shot opportunities. Aggressive backing down and going towards the basket. Good extension and elevation on a jumphook. Doesn't have any countermoves. Doesn't re-post well. Hasn't shown the ability to steal position in the paint going from strongside to weakside.
• Off-the-ball – A bit lost at times. A bit indecisive. Doesn't box-out well.
• Short game (0’-7’) – Soft touch in the paint. Should be a high percentage FG shooter. Good shots within 6' usually drop.
• Midrange game (8’-18’) - Midrange shot needs a lot of work. Needs to add a foot of arc on his shot on anything past 12'. Slight hitch. Inconsistent Mechanics.

2. Defense
• Man to man defense
Position – Below average. Smaller players with fundamental post games (not even diverse) have scored well against him. Simien on a jumphook. Undrafted Scott Merritt for jumphooks 3 consecutive times.
• Off-the-ball defense
Position – Very good. Shows well in pick and roll situations and is improving his timing. A bit late on rotation but contests jumpshots, even behind screens. Gets lucky to even block some of those jumpshots.
Anticipation – Solid.
• Team defense
Position - Solid. Not often late on rotation, but doesn't establish defensive position well.
Anticipation – N/A

Rebounding
1. Offensive
• Box-out – Below Average. Doesn't actively box-out his man or any man consistently. Doesn't utilize footwork properly for position.
• Hustle – Good. Wins on the boards due to wingspan.
• Energy level – Decent.
• Position – Often finds himself boxed out or surrounded by 2 men. Steals boards on wingspan.
2. Defensive
• Box-out – Doesn’t box out.
• Hustle – Average. Shows more energy for offensive boards.
• Energy level –Average.
• Position – Wins the boards on wingspan and rooting guys out of the paint. Better defensive rebounder than offensive rebounder. Slight nose for the ball.

Intangibles
• Leadership – N/A
• Attitude – Good attitude. High effort all over the floor. Learning on the fly with improvement every game.
• Work Ethic – Lost weight since the HS All-Star game and it shows. I'd love to see him start a Karl Malone weight regiment.
• Competitiveness – Quiet demeanor, but never stops trying.
• Unselfishness – Good. Sometimes takes bad shots. Gets caught up in the crowd wanting him to do well in the post. Becoming more unselfish every game.
• Toughness – Good competitor. Just gets a bit winded and outmuscled in the paint at times.
• Mental – N/A
• Physical – Good frame. Could lock him up in a gym and make a granite rock out of him. If he was more chiseled, the man-defense, offensive positioning, and boxing out would all improve.

Summary: I'm not expecting a 25ppg 12rpg player unless he shows the work ethic to get himself a chiseled physique. I'm thinking more along the lines of a 14ppg 11rpg 2bpg player. Solid on both ends of the floor. Shows improvement every game. Shotblocking. Passing in the post. Decision-making within the triangle. Has a lot to learn: Dropstep, jumphook, face up game, arc in his midrange shot, FT consistency, box-out, solid man-defense, maintaining deep position when going from strongside to weakside or how to open up the passing angle, needs leg strength to steal position away from players, etc. An obvious project who is 3-4 years down the road, but definitely one worth waiting for. If he turns out to be a more athletic, better sized Magloire with the 14ppg 11rpg 2bpg relative upside, the Lakers have an absolute steal.

Draftexpress.com and nbadraft.net (look under the 'Articles') have them every day. I don't know if those leagues have their own sites, though.

lol something we can agree on

it says something about summer leagues when you see this:
45 * Bo Outlaw FG 4/9 3PT 0/0 FT 5/11 PTS 13 OREB 2 DREB 14 REBS 16 PF 2 AST 7 TO 7 BS 6 STL 5 MIN 48:00

this coming from the Summer pro league at the Pyramid (Long Beach)

if the game went into overtime, he could have had a sextuple double! (double digits in 6 categories)

by the way, how OLD is Bo Outlaw now?
