Does anyone think 'cocky' when he brings Stoudemire to mind or is it just me?

Probably just you. Cocky is what comes to mind when I think of Bryant. What has Amare done to deserve that thought? He doesn't shoot off at the mouth & he knows his place in the team.

My favorite baby Jordan was Harold Miner...rofl.

Hmmm.... "I want to be the best PF of all time" ..., " I want to be the go-to guy" .... "no one has ever dunked on me in practice" ... , the signs are there all right.

Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly fine to believe in yourself and aspiring to be the best in everything, it's just that the very task is that much harder when you have to let everyone know of your intentions.

He doesn't really have a cocky demeanour though.

His most deadly move was a turnaround jumper that he didn't need any PG penetration or pick & roll for, he created his own points without any help. Anyone trying to play any tough D on him just got owned by a variety of jukes, fakes, up & unders, layups, banks...you were better off just letting him shoot and praying.

Damn if you say Hakeem would be considered soft these days, then how would we considered centers like Z, Yao, etc etc

I don't care if you would considered Hakeem soft or whatever comes to your mind but he was a freak on the post, had endless post movements, excellent footwork, you name it! he had it all! I would even take Hakeem over Shaq (both being in their prime) because Hakeem was a more balanced center than what Shaq is now or ever had. Now if you don't believe me is because you never saw Hakeem played.

Amare may throw some of those "crazy" comments out there, but he's probably just giving the media something to write about, and doing it on purpose. Remember the crazy comment about "Nash's return to the desert and they would be winning titles"... Who believed him back then??? I certainly didn't give it that much thought until they were like 20-2 in the season...

His demeanor isn't cocky and he knows to be the best you have to be willing to learn, and learn at all times... No matter great you already are. This is what separates him from being cocky.

Wanting to be great and thinking that you are the greatest are two way different things. Amare wants to be the best ever and there's nothing wrong with that. If he were to think that he's already the best pf/c guy ever to play the game, now that would be cocky.

There's a subtle, yet very difference making difference here. The way Kobe led the Lakers breakdown last summer in the media sure made him look like he was cocky... I'm not saying that he is, but the media sure did the job to give us that impression.

You really can't say anything about anyone you don't personally know... But Amare hasn't said or done anything that would make him seem cocky.

the only player in recent history to compare to Olajuwon is...no one...and that's how it will remain for a long long time.
