That's true. Everyone else beau_boy04 mentioned is eligible apart from Nash, in fact nearly all of them have represented the USA already.

As long as they don't take Andrew Bogut form us... its all good! But yes, Team USA either will be Star Players orientated or more of a team orientated.. meaning get a team of superstars or a team of role players.

They couldn't do that. He's already represented Australia in international competition, he wouldn't be eligible. I remember there were a few question marks about Hakeem Olajuwon competing in the 1996 Games after becoming an American citizen because he represented Nigeria in handball as a teenager, though not at the Olympics.

Wouldn't he be taller than the goal i nhandball???

Also.. what players would make the USA team if we got role players? Guys like Bruce Bowen and Michael Redd?

I believe LeBron and Melo said they'll be back for 08 to get revenge. Add Wade to that, Amare (by then he'll probably be averaging 40ppg and shooting 3's whilst playing PG).

The next olympics team will contain the next generation of players...hardly anyone from the 90's. LeBron, Howard, Okafor, Melo, Wade, Bosh, Gordon, Amare, and hell, maybe even Curry or Chandler will be real players by then.

Considerably taller. He was a fine player before taking up basketball at age 14.

Don't even try. There isn't one. Our best twelve Americans couldn't come close.

There's a few guy on the top of my mind who could replace Laettner .

Perhaps you should design a team

C: Emeka Okafor (D!)
PF: Amare Stoudamire (well, a soon-to-be-point-center)
SF: LeBron James (a team player who can score, pass and with a few years of seasoning also defend)
SG: Joe Johnson (D+O)
PG: Deron Williams (he's a true PG, plays some good D and has a great shot from outside)

Bench: Ben Gordon, Dan Dickau, Ron Artest (I trust this guy. He really wants to be on this team), Chris Bosh, Tyson Chandler.

Now, try to beat this team.

WEll you could definitely find a better replacement for Dan Dickau, Chris Bosh, Deron Williams (WTF? Just use Kidd, he's got all of that and better apssing ability).

(Dan Dickau was a joke. Kinda. Ignore it and imagine Kirk Hinrich in his role.)

Don't forget one of the major problems Team USA had was not being able to hit the outside shot. So they should definately bring in some good 3-pt shooters..

Kyle Korver, Joe Johnson will still be young in 4 years..

And the team definately could use some role-players and guys that can defend ala Tayshaun Prince.

NASH is from Canada!!!!!!!!!! Get your own PG!!!!!!!!!!!

I know man....

A few things [this will be in 2008]:

Get some shooters
Get a Real PG on the team
Get a Real Center so Duncan isn't playing C [though he can]
Have a team that can play like a team

I'm assuming age keep Shaq and Kidd out. For 2008, I'll assume Livingston and Telfair will be good then too.

PG: Mike Bibby | Gilbert Arenas | Shaun Livingston
SG: Dwyane Wade | Michael Redd
SF: Lebron James | Joe Johnson
PF: Tim Duncan [He'll be 32] | Chris Bosh
C: Amare Stoudemire | Dwight Howard
CP3 | Brand | Arenas | Calderon
Raptors | Wizards | Clippers

who would be the equivilant of the 92' Dream Team?
Charles Barkley=Stoudemire
Larry Bird=??
Clyde Drexler=??
Patrick Ewing=Shaq
Earvin Johnson=Carmello Anthony
Michael Jordan=LeBron James
Christian Laettner=??
Karl Malone=??
Chris Mullin=??
Scottie Pippen=Dwayne Wade
David Robinson=??
John Stockton=Iverson?

i just want to point out that no team, ever, anywhere, will compare to the original dream team. it still makes me sick to my stomach that Christian Laettner was allowed on that team while dominique had to sit home and watch the games.

as for your list i would definetly put jason kid in for stockton(i assume you are trying to compare the players to eachother?)

I completely agree. Isiah Thomas is another snub that deserves a mention, especially considering Stock was limited due to injuries.

I always had this idea... why not just use the league champions in the olympics? They are the best team in the NBA, they know how to play together (hence the championship), and they've already been playing together for awhile (as opposed to just being thrown together into a new system).

Yeah that one came up a few times during the Olympics and it's hard to disagree with it. I think people who are saying things like "We need a team of role players like Fred Hoiberg!" are underestimating how good teams like Spain and Argentina actually are. The USA team still needs its stars, it just needs to be more selective about which ones it uses because lets face it the NBA is jam packed with superstars and potential superstars, it's just a matter of someone like Michael Redd being a better choice than Carmelo Anthony.
