explain please... wht do you mean by "NBA needed to allow the player to use their number" ?

I kind of like Walker now since he is back in Boston. Last time I remember when he was in Boston, the Celtics were doing good and making the playoffs and everything and he seem cool back then with Pierce. Since he back with Boston, I might like him as a player again. He had 24 pts and 10 rebs in his debut. That's pretty good for a debut. It will be interesting to see who will come out of the Atlantic Division now on top. Philly or Boston

league didn't let him. he got 91 instead. artest copied him. talk about two nutcaes having the same number... coincidence? i think not. but i still like rodman better. :D

course, originality is key when it comes to this. that's why i believe that numbers such as 23 should be retired from the NBA completely.. (Y)

number 8

Sat Feb 26, 2005 4:56 pm

im from utah and watched the game why donsnt walker wear 8 cant he get it cuz its justa rookie wearing 8 does this mean webber will have to change his number.

Sat Feb 26, 2005 5:06 pm

he should take #13 for good luck

Sun Feb 27, 2005 2:37 am

the league used to have a rule where 55 was the highest number a player could get. they later changed it so a player could go over 55 with league approval. this is why you have seen players like rodamn or artest(91) and bradley in phily(76) and so on.

i dont believe being original is always the best course of action. i like it when a player comes out and says i am wearing this number in honor of so and so, kinda like lebron.

artest changes his number to honor a different player every year. no it was not a coincidence when he announced he was changing his # to 91 he said to honor dennis rodman.

Isn't it funny???
The year he decides to honor Dennis Rodman, he gets a year long suspension... :P

the rule is that when a star player or so comes in, he can ask for that number and the team will pay the player that originally has that number to change numbers. so obviously walker didn't want no.8 because if he did, then he wouldve had it. i think its all up to the player thats coming in (if its a superstar). i know thats how it goes in the NFL

Sun Feb 27, 2005 6:46 am

i think it's more walker's looking forward to a new start. he doesn't want #8 anymore because of the bad relationships between him and ainge i guess.

either way i hope this cripples boston (Y)

hasn't Boston been crippled since the late 80's?

Sun Feb 27, 2005 7:26 am

Boston hasn't been crippled until after Walker left.

They were strong since the Bill Russel Days.

Especially in the Mid 90's when they Acquired Dominique Wilkins (Who wore number 12) and they had Dee Brown, Dino Radja and a couple other dudes, that was awesome, except I didn't watch the NBA Then, I was little.

ya, you obviously WEREN'T watching the NBA back then, bro. The Celtics were atrocious in the mid 90's.

Bias died in 86, Bird and McHale started suffering their injuries a few years later, the Celtics have pretty much either been bad, or competitively average since then.

Who can forget the ML Carr era, the Pitino era, those teams were never worth a damn.

Haha, Nique played ONE year for the Celts.

Boston was below mediocre during the mid-to-late 90s. Not until they dumped Pitino and went with O'Brien did they get some lift. The year they went to the Conference Finals was a great year, but the only players remaining from that team are Paul Pierce, Mark Blount(though he had a short stin in Denver), and (now) Walker.

Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:11 am

Walker was amazing late 90s :)

Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:33 am

boston has had sooooooo many chances to be good but they are a slave to impatience and because of this we trade away anyone good before we give them a chance to do thier thing. also rick pitino raped the celtics. i mean he flat out took a good team and destroyed them.

Sun Feb 27, 2005 3:24 pm

So... Walker will now be known as "Employee #88"?

Sun Feb 27, 2005 3:35 pm

88.. wat a stupid number i have to say

couldnt he buy 8 off jefferson?

Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:16 pm

Perhaps (and this is taking a big leap, I admit) he doesn't intend on being in Boston after his contract expires at the end of the year, thus doesn't have much interest in wearing "his" number.

Al Jefferson might be a rookie, but he's the only untradable player on the Celtics roster. No reason the franchise player should have to give his number to 'Toine.

Mon Feb 28, 2005 5:52 am

who the fuck cares what his number is? how is it a stupid number???

ty. this is exactly why i said i want jefferson to keep number 8. you dont wanna upset a player, rookie or not, who can be the future of your team. now if when walker came to town jefferson offered it to walker that would be 1 thing but wtf is walker anyway. i mean, giving a number to someone else is really only reserved for all stars, mvps, and hall of famers. i dont mean 1 or 2 time all stars either, i mean consistantly good all stars. walker is not good enough to demand his number or anything. i doubt walker will be here next year anyway and if he is he will have to take a big pay cut to stay and will probably have to understand that he is gonna be more of a roleplayer than a team leader.

Mon Feb 28, 2005 2:53 pm

2 games 2 wins
Walker is 1-6 from 3pt range for both games combined
24pts/33pts i think celtics are ready to make some noise now..as good as payton was, pierce and walker is a better combo considering the upgrade he is at the front line
