There isn't a legitimate reason to slack off when you're playing basketball. There just isn't.

And just a question to wisdom_kid, do you know how reliable that source is? I mean, unless you hear it firsthand that he slacked off, you don't really know. It's just hearsay or opinion.

Of course, T-Mac quit early on that team because of his injuries and the record. I guess that could be construed as slacking off.

In response to Kevin: I don't think that New Jersey's going to trade Kidd for Cassell straight up. There has to be another piece or a third team. And I know the Spurs aren't going to trade for Kidd. They have good pieces in Parker and Ginobili and they're not going to want to give them up.

I guess Denver trade is the most likely one, but again, there's going to be some other pieces involved because of Kidd's contract.

I personally think he's staying in Jersey. There's just nowhere else for him to go.

Oh, and I've been reluctant to comment on Vince Carter's situation especially because I've been preaching that Kobe should get a second chance, and I don't want to be a hypocrite, but I can't help but feel that you're letting your team down if you're not giving everything you've got every night, especially when your teammates count on you. One thing about Kobe, he plays hard every night--it's all about basketball for him.

But I am going to try to give Vince a second chance.

Actually I was reading the whole thing about him not playing hard, and he actually never says he didn't play hard in Toronto, what he says is that he didn't push himself as hard as he should have in terms of training, working out, focus etc

He never actually said or proposed that that he gave less effort than his all in a game.

He said "When I first came into the league, I took things for granted, and assumed I would be this energetic and athletic forever. I should have worked harder and focused more. Once the injuries came, I realized that it would take more than just pure talent to succeed, so I've worked on that."

Anyways, I guess I should've payed mroe attention, but whatever....

Someone used to have a quote in their signature. I think it was something about Ginobili making a game winning shot or whatever, and the quote was something like "Guys paid under 1 million aren't supposed to make those shots!" It's like the money makes players want to do better, but I think it just makes them lazy. Alot of the harder working players are the lesser paid too.

the feeling you going to lose everynight..i know you not suppose to think like that but if you realize that your key people are out for the SEASON, you passing the ball and teammates throwing up bricks, you needing to score 62points to win a game that was close against a bad team..its just a mental thing. I know theres no reason to slack off and stuff, but sometimes you just have to see them as humans like you in really tough situations and losing 19 in a row is tough...just like people felt Ron Artist pain...getting paid millions..but reacted like a normal human and in the eyes of some he wasn't completely wrong in what he did..to some extent ya, but not as bad as the punishment says it was

VC shot himself in the foot. He will be a hated man in TO. He lost the respect of many players in the NBA...especially his former teammates. Why the hell, would he even say such a thing??....he should have just kept that to himself. It's a sign of him being immature. What does that teach young kids watching the game?

One thing people are getting confused with is that Vince never actually admitted to not trying in games, he admitted to not putting as much work as he should off the court which were could say for more than 50% of the players in the NBA, but never actually said he didn't put his all on the court.

Let's get serious, if you win or arei n a winning enviroment, you'll want to try more, it's more fun to play when you're winning, their's no players that get overly excited when their team is losing because if they did people would also then say they don't care about winning etc..


Did Vince "slack" this year? I would'nt say so, but I agree that he didn't go the EXTRA mile in his play, ie get fired up and excited, but he was always in the game, he always tried on offense, and the whole TEAM slacked off on defense so he wasn't alone in that. The Raps defense now is still garbage, and he was the only starter to have a positive PER, and considering he plays in the league's highest scoring position, that's not too bad.

The biggest things were he wasn't fired up and leading the team like he should've, which would've equalled more wins for the Raptors, but what can you do?
