Abdul-Jabar : 38,387 points in 1,560 games
Malone: 36,928 points in 1,476 games

therefore: If Malone wants to score 38,388 points..he will need:

38,388 - 36,928 = 1460

I assume he plays in 82 games = 1460/82 = 17.8 ppg

He will need that average... but we can also assume he may not:

A) Get as many minutes as last season
B) May not play in 82 gam,es if he were to get many minutes

But Malone can always play two more seasons... Malone could average 12ppg this season in 70 games and bring his total to 37,768. Then in his last season he would need to play say another 50 games with an averge of 12ppg... either way it works!

But his chances are getting slim....

Does anyone think Mailman can average 18ppg this season???

not on the lakers team. maybe if he was to play for a team with alot less talent that needed him to score alot more then yes, i think he could actually get 20 but on the lakers no way.
