if al jefferson is not starting opening night he will be before the season ends. this guy has been great thus far and alot of teams are regretting not takeing him. west was already better than banks so banks was now not needed. the celtics got better this season and in the future with this trade. after the season we clear 2 more contracts and will finally be under the cap. i only hope ainge can find a taker for ricky davis next and i know i am pushing my luck here but i would also like to see raef gone.

so anyway the celts definetly got better this season and after this season we will improve even more so.

I like this trade for boston. If (and yes, its a big if) but if Payton returns to pre-laker form, him and peirce will be the best backcourt in the nba. The Lakers tho.. they remind me an awful lot of the clippers a few years ago. Atkins at point guard? Just when you thought things couldn't get worse. They have replaced shaq and payton with vlade and atkins... that'll teach espn for calling them the best franchise in the nba

Wolves, Spurs, Mavs, Rockets, Grizz, Nuggets, Jazz, Kings and maybe even the Blazers are better than the Lakers I think. Maybe even the Suns?

I honestly don't think Fox will play. He was traded away from Beantown because he didn't want to play there when he was drafted.

I know this isn't the most important point in the whole discussion but since I like useless trivia: Fox actually signed with the Lakers prior to the 1997/1998 season after the Celtics elected not to re-sign him. He had been planning to stay in Boston, but the Celtics renounced his rights making him an unrestricted free agent.

I guess the Lakers really want to prove that Kobe can do it by himself. Even if Atkins can replace Fisher, Banks proves to be a good floor leader in a run-and-gun offense and Mihm plays most of the year putting up solid numbers, I believe Boston got the better end of the deal - even if it is a short term solution as far as GP and Fox are concerned.

Since West and Jefferson seem to have made Banks and Mihm expendable, there's no harm using them to bring in established veterans, especially since GP should have something left in the tank. If he plays, Fox can be another experienced player off the bench. GP returning to a form that resembles the player he was pre-Lakers is certainly a "What If", but not too unlikely in my opinion.

I argee with the first part. With out Shaq and the triangle this year, things were looking up for GP. I am the complete opposite on the second though... I live in LA and this year it was disappointing to see GP perform poolry in mostly all of the 82+ games... now I only see him play twice. (well actually FOUR, cuz of the Clips). I hope GP, PP, and Tricky Ricky dominate whatever division they're in (new divisions... it will take some time to get used to them). Oh well.... I looked on the website Jumaine Jones has #20. He better give it up or GP might have to revert to the old #2. This is ALMOST screwed up as Seattle trading him to the Bucks...
Bottom line, stupid Lakers gave up on him and I hope they (and Kobe) pay.

there is alot to be said for revenge as a primary motivation. shaq and now payton(payton more so) now have something to prove. payton was bashed all year and was down right laughed at during the playoffs. payton is far to much of a competitor(sp?) to go down without a fight. do i think he will be as good as he was pre LA? no way, but i can almost 100% guarentee(i guess the almost dont really make it 100% huh) that he will d better this season than he did with LA. he can still score and score often, what he lacks is the defensive quickness he once had. thats where team basketball comes into play. the lakers dont understand the meaning of the word team so payton was hung out to dry.

also to be honest, at the very least, he can provide many words to help the celtics young players grow. dont underestimate the value of a tried and true nba warrior.
