Me too. People will learn not to underestimate the signing of Brent Barry.

Detroit- obviously got better
San Antonio- had a chance last year but missed out, still perhaps the strongest team in the L
Miami- Shaq just promised a Championship, he seems determined

On the bubble:
Indiana- Improved but perhaps less than Detroit
Denver- I consider them a 'long shot', not this year, their could be chemistry problems
Houston- Only if Yao hogs the ball
Sacramento- Always up there but never get it done because they are rather soft.....seem to have been surpassed by at least 1 team in the West

Possible Surprising Teams:
Dallas- they always have a great season but never make anything of it (Making the Conf Finals doesn't count, a team this talented still took 7 games to beat a Webber-less Kings)

no minny :(

my picks for the winners are
1. spurs
2. pistons
3. Minnesota
4. Indiana
5. Miami

sorry dallas/saramento, but until theres a bit change ( who knows ostertag might be the difference) i don't see any of these 2 teams not chocking again. Kinda like the Knicks of the 90s, close, but never won.

Check the other thread, I explained why I think it will be SA.

Championships are won by big-men with the correct players surrounding that big man. (Unless your name is Michael Jordan ofcourse...)

hmmm. west

-sacramento will not win a championship with their current roster. webber is way DOWNHILL, the only scoring threat really is stojakovic, but then he can be defended since he's not a real all around scorer.

-minnesota has a chance, only if KG tries to take over more. he's too unselfish, i like his game. but shit, take over man.

-houston tmac will have a great year, no championship yet. he'll probly get close to 30ppg n couple more assists than last yr. he has yao, and there arent that many good guards that play D in the west, except kobe.

-san antonio western champions only if: ginobili plays more mature & nesterovic plays more like a center. hehe. duncan has proven to be close to unstoppable in the post. parker will get better, and barry will add a great outside complement to duncan. but then again, players on that roster are gettin old (bowen, WILLIS!?!?, horry..)

-lakers i must admit, this team is pretty good, IF THEY WERE IN THE EAST. they lack the inside game. look at twolves, they only have KG for inside game, and he pretty much shoots jumpers as well, and they cant win. kobe, if he's not in prison which i doubt he will be, will have a good season. prediction, kobe n tmac starting Gs for all-star west (obviously)

-dallas will never win a championship. who the hell wins a championship without playing defense. even the dream team played defense. :x also, nowitzki untradable to get shaq? please... with shaq on the team, theyre instant favs to win the west. then again, they have stack whose a bitch who thinks he is better than 39yr old jordan. and walker who imho, takes TOO MANY stupid shots. shaq's life in dallas with those 2 guys would be miserable ahhahaha

Cliff Notes: (WEST)
1. San Antonio
2. Minnesota

you shouldnt under estimate the rockets. nobody thought detroit would win it last year but they did. yao and tmac could be a good duo and could get em to the playoffs at least. rockets might not win, who knows. every one thought lakers had it las year. me and my friend made a bet on the finals this year. we both picked 3 team we thought would take it all. i picked rockets, lakers and twolves he picked denver, detroit and miami.
i really doubt the lakers could win so rockets or twolves

I don't think I'm underestimating them when I say they won't win the championship.

Underestimating them would be saying they don't make the playoffs.

I think I know what's going to happen... Detroit is going to pull off more genius and win the championship again... everyone seems to be forgetting about someone...

I'm still gonna say that Detroit is gonna repeat as NBA Champs.
Can't wait till Milicic starts producing some. More minutes on court for him this year which is great.

I am not saying the Rockets will win it, but if you compare the Tmac-Yao pair to Kobe and Shaq, the Lakers didn't have the best point guard or core group and they still were able to win.

Anyhoo, being a fan I'd have to say the RAPTORS are going to win it, although it is impossible.

the thing though is that Kobe and Shaq are better individually then Tmac and Shaq. Would have been interesting to see them matchup.

you mean Kobe and Shaq are better than Tmac and Yao.

Anyways, I think Kobe and Tmac are very comparable....it will be very close. However, Shaq has an advantage over Kobe.
