Correct. But low scoring games often come about as a result of ugly play. Take the Pistons' win earlier this year when they shot 0/15 or thereabouts in the fourth. That's a tremendous defensive effort to still win that game, but it's not great basketball either.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:27 pm
In the lst 4 minutes of game seven Wade completly hogged the ball and because of that the Heat lost.
Go to Shaq in the fourth, what is so hard to understand about that?
Wade needs to go. The Heat will be a lot better with Shaq and a bunch of flunkies.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:30 pm
right.
stupidest idea ever
no wade, they wont even get this far.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:31 pm
in all fairness, if wade wasnt injured, detroit wouldnt have advanced. PERIOD
sure thing buddy.....only the strong survive, that's the way the NBA goes...there are no excuses.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:32 pm
im just stating the fact. if miami wasnt injured they wouldve won,
but detroit won. so its ok
just like the 99 champ spurs, theres always a, 'they won because yadiyadayada'
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:33 pm
Not great basketball? What's not great about watching great defense? I know most people watch basketball for the offense but im very interested to see how the spurs run their offense against the pistons defense, just as how i was interested to see how the spurs would run their offense against the spurs.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:34 pm
Dammit! Dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit! I need to come up with 2o BUCKS!
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:38 pm
im very interested to see how the spurs run their offense against the pistons defense, just as how i was interested to see how the spurs would run their offense against the spurs.
In a Spurs/Spurs matchup, I'd pick the Spurs.
No, it's not great basketball to go a whole 12 minutes without a field goal. Like I said, it's a tremendous effort at the defensive end to still win a game without a single field goal in the fourth quarter, but it's not good basketball. It's an extremely poor effort and the offensive end and you won't win too many games playing that way.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:43 pm
LOL, sorry i meant suns versus spurs...
Its not great to see the defense that caused such a scoring drought?(Although such a scoring drought would be almost impossible IMO)
Wont win too many games playing that way? Pistons are in the finals for the second straight year so i dont know what the fuck your talking about...
Good basketball is not all about offense...
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:46 pm
Matt is right, only the strongest survived....maybe if Wade had of stepped in and played through pain in game 6, then it might never have come to game 7....
Pistons got the win and I'd say they deserved it....as much as I don't like certain Pistons, ya gotta luv Rip Hamilton, going all the way back to his UConn days
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:47 pm
im just stating the fact. if miami wasnt injured they wouldve won
haha, facts? that's funny.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:50 pm
yeah, and if the Pacers had Artest, then they wouldn't have lost....
that's all subjective....teams have to play the cards they're dealt....Pistons got the win and deserved it....Pistons are more well-balanced....if the Heat got more of a contribution from the likes of Eddie Jones and Damon Jones then there chances would have increased greatly....Heat need to add more depth this off-season and come back stronger next season....
Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:56 pm

Not unless the Pistons were defending themselves.

Before you attack my posts like that, it might be worth reading them rather than skimming them and then trying to belittle my point of view. I was talking about the game in which they made zero field goals in the fourth quarter. They have won
one game playing that way. I don't think shooting 0/15 in the fourth quarter is a recipe for success, it's fortunate they were able to defend well enough to hold off the other team.
For the record: the
recap and
boxscore for that game. It speaks volumes for great defense, but that doesn't prevent it from being an ugly game.
Good basketball is not all about offense...
No, but it's about playing well at both ends. And shooting 0/15 isn't playing well at one end. You're not always going to win with great defense alone. If you can't outscore your opponent, it doesn't matter how great your defense is because ultimately, that's how you win; scoring more points than your opponent. You need to stop them from scoring and score yourself. "Defense wins championships" has become an over-simplified cliche.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:00 pm
Exactly, your talking about that
one game...

thats why you're a loser.. defense is boring to watch. who honestly enjoys "good defense" and 0-15 droughts over high octane ballin'?
the majority of the world that aren't in-depth basketball fans look at things like this: shoots and makes= good. shoots and misses= person sucks, let someone else shoot and score. people don't get interested by "OMG! DID YOU SEE HOW GOOD THAT GUY PUTS HIS HAND IN HIS FACE?" anything defensively awesome would be a breakaway steal, badass dunk. but the net result is on offense, and that's really the only thing good about that sequence. a block is awesome too, but the perviously mentioned are just "stats" def, not legit D. that's why "good defense" = boring.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:05 pm
And? What's your point? I was giving an example of ugly basketball and how it's not going to be successful, elaborating on my earlier point. Again, if you're going to belittle my posts, at least read them and counter them with points of your own.

Right, i agree. But do you think Miami can actually unload him? The guy is an overpaid slacker going only 24 PPG 5 RPG and 7 APG and doesn't play enough defense with 1.6 SPG and 1.1 BPG. The guy makes a whopping $2.8 M a year, i don't know too many teams that will able to handle that contract. And being at 23, he probably doesn't have too many years left in him.
Best to trade him for Paul Shirley and dodge a bullet with this guy.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:08 pm
Let the Laker fans rejoice
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:22 pm
I think they can package him and Eddie Jones for maybe Elton Brand or Ray Allen.
Shaq is all you need and the only reason the Heat lost is because they didn't get Shaq the ball!
Wade is a ballhog and he needs to go!!!

Dont talk about being a loser especially if your a hawks fan.. who enjoys good defense? People that have at least 1% basketball knowledge...

OMG!!!!1111!!!! you just pointed out the obvious!!!!11111!!

No wonder the the hawks suck, their basketball knowledge is equal to that of their fans

Point is that one game is not reason enough to say that the spurs-pistons series will be ugly, boring etc...
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:33 pm
damn... I was hoping for DWade to come out with a stellar, history making perfomance a.l.a Willis Reed, Isaaih Thomas, Michael Jordan
I guess it's Detroit - 2,Shaq - 0.
Smurfs vs. Piss-tons in the finals
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:35 pm
Again, that's not what I was saying when I brought up that game. You commented that low scoring and defensive-minded games need not be boring and ugly, I pointed out an example of an ugly game. Not once did I say that that game was proof the series would be ugly, not once.
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:35 pm
Damn that Wade he's such a ballhog!!!!!
Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:39 pm
Fine, but do you seriously think that the finals would be that ugly?
