Prior to becoming considered one of the best high school basketball players in the nation as a senior at Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois, Curry aspired to be a gymnast and did not pick up basketball until the seventh grade when he reluctantly went out for the school team.

So proud of his off-season conditioning program, Stephon Marbury is producing a 45-minute fitness video due out for the Christmas shopping season.
Marbury's weight loss to his lightest since Lincoln High - after long hikes and jogging the Hollywood Hills - motivated him to do the video.
"It's for all different types of people, not just basketball players," said Marbury, whose video is called "Starbury & Aim Sports Medicine Presents: The Rebuilding of the Mind, Body and Soul of a Superstar."

New coach Mike D'Antoni is rumored to view Chris Duhon as the starter, with Marbury coming off the bench as a sixth man.
"You can't assess it yet," Marbury said of his competition with Duhon for the starting gig. "When the 29th comes, when the lights come on, it will be different. It doesn't matter now who is on the court at what position. I know when that the game starts, I'll have the ball or I'll be receiving the ball to make plays for others and myself."
Good to know he's open to accepting whatever role Mike D'Antoni has in mind.

The New York Knicks were leaning towards waiving Patrick Ewing Jr. by tomorrow's deadline in order to get their roster down to 15 players, but Friday's performance may have just won him a spot on the roster, the New York Post is reporting.
Ewing was the talk of the Garden after exploding in a nine minute stretch which saw two monster dunks and a three pointer, a blocked shot and midcourt steal that triggered a fastbreak and points for Nate Robinson Nate Robinson.

Andrew wrote:I can understand him being upset about finding out about it second hand rather than from D'Antoni himself, it's the way the NBA works sometimes but I'd probably be miffed too if I were in his position. The rest of it though is on his head though, as you said he reported to camp out of shape which wasn't going to make a good impression.
I noticed Marbury registered a DNP-CD in the Knicks' opening night win too.

Andrew wrote:No doubt. If he wants to play he should take a look at why D'Antoni made that decision rather than spending too much time feeling slighted by it.
You can't help but to think about that, especially [since] I feel like I'm in pretty good shape," Curry said. "Hopefully I can contribute and, if not, I will cheer my team on and see what the Knicks' plan is.
