rumors of Troy Hudson and/or JR Bremer. I remember Bremer had a really good rookie season for Boston when he was signed in like 2005 and i tihnk he was one of the top players in 3pt %. i would like to see him get another shot.
Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:38 am
They can sign me to a 40k contract.

I can be a good 15th man.
Fri Aug 03, 2007 9:29 am
they may need to

Boston needs a new uniform, KG doesn't look right in that thing.
Fri Aug 03, 2007 5:18 pm
I really, really don't think that will happen.

I never thought I'd make a post with just a frownie, but by typing that I guess I was right anyways.

Remember what the pistons did when they went from retro to new school? They eventually figured out those jerseys were crap and went back to the old school jerseys. If boston changed theirs, they would eventually go back.

those days were bloody boring....those 2 were well past their primes & didn't mesh well with the rest of the team....was a sad state of affairs for the NBA....
if you're talking entertaining Lakers' teams, I haven't seen one of those since they had Cedric Ceballos, Eddie Jones, Anthony Peeler & Nick Van Exel bringing Showtime back to LA....now that was entertaining
I don't see many super rookies at all....it's a very talented bunch, but they will all have their struggles at times....Horford should be good though....
Houston enertaining?!?

although I guess they will have Adelman as the coach, so they might not be one of the 5 most boring teams like last season....

Gomes is a PF/C, he fits Minny perfectly.
If you look at the rotation it could look something like this:
C- M.Blount/J.Howard/..
PF- A.Jefferson/R.Gomes/..
SF- G.Green/C.Brewer/..
SG- R.Davis/R.McCants/..
PG- R.Foye/S.Telfair/..
That's deep and quality squad, the Wolves will be fools to cut a very good big man like Gomes.

Gomes is a SF/PF....he's only 6'7" at a stretch....although he is about 250lbs or thereabouts....he was a college PF, but is a tweener in the pros....
I think for the Wolves, you're forgetting their backup PF/SF, Craig Smith....Gomes replicates a lot of things that Smith already brings to the team....
Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:36 pm
Howard as a center? He is 6'7" as well. I think they might have to play Jefferson at center if they don't pick up another big man.

Randy Foye is not a PG. That's why they need to get rid of Ryan Gomes. Gomes is a SF, and wouldn't be playing PF too much behind Jefferson and Howard. In the Wolves depth chart, he's a 3rd string PF and a 3rd string SF. Where is the point in keeping him?
Gomes was never a center.
The depth chart should look something like this:
C - Jefferson/Richard
PF - Smith/Howard/
GomesSF - Brewer/Green/
GomesSG - Davis/McCants/Hassell
PG - Foye/Telfair
Gomes is wasting away as a 3rd stringer, 2nd stringer at absolute best.
Howard as a center? He is 6'7" as well. I think they might have to play Jefferson at center if they don't pick up another big man.
Juwan is 6'9". Personally I think they would be fine with Blount there. Of course, they will want a quality center over time.

That would be very strange if Boston changed their uniform. It's actually one of my favorite uniforms, simple, and very classic.

Is it possible the Gomes can go back to Celts? I think Payton did this once. Also, where's Jaric in that rotation? Is he even around?

I believe Minny must waive Gomes for that to happen...and that might invite League inspection, since it might be a method to circumvent the salary rules regarding trades.

That black Celtics uni looks absolutely awesome if you ask me.
I feel a little bad for gomes, he was only used as trade bait in the deal, and got sent to a team that wasnt interested in him in the first place. It would be good to get him back in the fold at boston, he's a lot better then hes gotten a chance to show.
Sat Aug 04, 2007 2:43 am
if they release gomes then he can go back to the celtics and it might lead to some form of investigation seeing as the wolves have been caught doing underhanded stuff and the celtics have traded a player(payton) only for him to get released then they resigned him.
i agree the black jersey is great. i plan to get one of the new jerseys in black and the other in green.
gomes was sent to make the deal work, it coulde be a good thing for him if he does get released. then he is free to go where ever he wants to, be it boston or some place else. right now boston is a good place for someone trying to make a name for themself. the celtics will be in the spotlight alot this season and with such a limited bench anyone who can over perform is looking for a nice deal down the road.

Jefferson at C? he can play there some minutes a night but he's a true PF
Smith over Howard and Gomes?? Gomes is much better than both of them
Rookie Brewer over Green? I hope you were kidding
I think that the depth chart I offered is much more realistic...
Maybe Gomes is a tweener, but he is giving out nice numbers and has great range, I wouldn't give him up that easily.

My mistake, I completely forgot about Blount. But it looks even worse for Gomes with him:
C - Blount/Richard
PF - Jefferson/Smith/Howard/
GomesSF - Brewer/Green/
GomesSG - Davis/McCants/Hassell
PG - Foye/Telfair

Craig Smith was backing up Kevin Garnett last year and did a great job. I'm pretty sure every Minny fan is high on him and he will get alot more time this season. Gomes is a tweener at between SF and PF, I know he is a nice player, but I personally think Minnesota would lean towards Craig Smith as the backup.
If you wanna go by statistical production, heres how each player came out per 40 mins:
Smith - 16/11/1
Gomes - 15/7/2
Rookie Brewer over Green? I hope you were kidding
Green came straight out of High School and has proven aboslutely nothing so far in the NBA. Corey Brewer is a 2 time NCAA champion and is much more ready for the NBA, even though Green has already played in the league for 2 seasons. Brewer will be a very good player on both sides of the ball. I really don't see what Gerald has over him right now.

On a sad note, I just found out that Allan Ray has been released by the Celts. So much for expecting to hear an "Allan Ray Allen" with the assist and the score.
Sat Aug 04, 2007 4:58 am
Press is reporting that KG was traded at least partially due to money concerns.
Before the Timberwolves traded Kevin Garnett to Boston, the all-star forward sought a $60 million, three-year contract extension from the Wolves.
If he wanted $12 million, $12 million and $12 million instead, I would have signed him," Wolves owner Glen Taylor said Thursday.
Of course it's not my money so my opinion means nothing, but you'd think KG is one of the few guys actually worth that kind of salary.
Sat Aug 04, 2007 5:32 am
Not in this situation. If the Wolves don't have cash left to surround him with anyone, what's the point? They'll be mediocre.
So why not be mediocre with lesser superstar guys and save some money at the same time?

I always thought it'd be funny just to see those two in the same league and maybe even same game, but I never thought I'd see them on the same team, and I guess I was right. Though I suppose they were technically on the same team for a several days.

I'd really disagree here, but obviously Minny will have the last word...
Gomes is already a very solid SF/PF and he's still extremely promising. I would definitely keep him in the roster, maybe even as a starter depending on their vision for their offense.
