I've always said that the Warriors teams have been good on paper, but something just hasn't clicked for them... When Arenas, Hughes and Jamison were out there, they definitely had the talent, but it just wasn't working for them. Nellie has been the key, obviously. He's got the players listening and liking what he is saying... Nellie was definitely the right man for the job here, no question about it.

Dallas to win it all... I haven't bought into that all season... Sure they win lots of games during regular season, but a guy as up-and-down as Josh Howard is as the second guy on a title team... I just don't see it. Even Nowitzki isn't that spectacular, sure he had a great season and he is one hell of a player, but I just don't see him carrying a team like Shaq, Kobe, Nash, Wade etc. I've never seen that leadership from him, or that drive to take over a game. Cause he will have to now...

I'm saying it's 4-1 and Warriors advance from this series... The whole 5-0 run that the Warriors had against Mavs before play-offs was something that shows the Mavs really have problems against certain players... And the fact is that Warriors and Phoenix have lineups that really expose this and if Mavs have not been able to adjust to cover this hole in their armor, they will not win it all. Right now, Mavs are getting beat by guards and wing players and pretty much no inside presense guys...

I thought it all along and already before the play-offs even began that a Mavs-Warriors match up could turn out to be a nightmare for the Mavs and I guess I wasn't wrong.

I've always liked the energy that Baron Davis brought to a team. He sure gives his best every night and that performance is inspiring to say at least. And that's why I've always liked the guy... I hope his worst injury days are behind him, cause he is one of the best when he's out there and he can get a team going by him self the way I can't see Nowitzki getting...

I do respect Nowitzki's ability to play as he is great, but Mavs do need someone to pump up the energy levels for the entire team and Dirk isn't the man for this job...

I think the Mavs should regret putting Devean George in the game. He was a three point threat for the Lakers and in this game, he shot an air ball on an wide open three-point attempt. Out of the times I was watching this series and George is in the game, his shots are clanking off or he is committing turnovers. Nowitzki should stop taking jumpshots and start working the post. He is a friggin' seven footer for God sakes and he has tried to shoot the jumper and missed the majority of his attempts. Has he even dunked in this series?

If Baron Davis keeps playing like this, im going to 'Fan Boy' him, Kobe style ;)
And haha, im still in the GSW Bandwagoners group on the first page.. except under my old name (#7)

Well, Davis has always been a great player and an energy guy in the process. He's just been injury prone in the past. He's been hurt even during this season, but he seems pretty good now. It's not like his talents weren't appreciated before, its been all the nagging injuries that have faded his image in the NBA... He is a top 10 talent when he's healthy, probably top 5 in his position. He's always had a knack for scoring and passing.

And Baron Davis has always been a real stat sheet filler... No question about that, but he brings more to his team than that... He brings energy and excitement, and that is something that is not quatifyable in stats and numbers.

the difference right now though is that Baron shot selection is much much much better. He's relentlessly attacking the hoop and is a good on court leader.

Remember all the talk early in the decade of Baron the best PG in the league?

Golden State never got talked about before this playoff berth, and rightfully so, they have always been underacheiving. Baron's publicity went down because of this even though he has been putting up around 20/4/8 for 5 seasons now.

Matt, your right. Baron used to be a chucker, and it's obvious he's not a great shooter. I love the way he's slashing almost everytime he gets the ball. Being a PG with great passing skils, shooting jumpers all day when you cant doesn't help you or your teammates. Slashing creates oppurtunities to use those pssing skills to find open teammates, or use his big frame to outmuscle pretty much any other point guard in the league. Wonder how much Nellie had to do with it.

these warriors hrned there season around....the best thing for them was that trade and coach nelson. only lost 1 game against dallas there hav e a record so far this season/playoffs of 6-1

but will they continue?

Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:43 pm

I think they will... I mean how pumped up you gotta be if you lead 3-1 against the 1st seed and you almost didn't make the playoffs and if the Warriors are pumped up they're haard to stop :D

I so wish they take this series...
fuck all these experts saying the wins in the season didn't mean that much brrrra

It's always so amusing that "fans" come out from under the rocks when a team starts doing surprisingly well. Not aimed at anyone specifically, but look at a lot of the Heat "fans", they were swarming the boards this time last year. Now? Silent as silent can be.

Now we've got Warrior fans? I love it. I just love it.

Hope you guys aren't referring to me. It's not as if I suddenly jumped on the bandwagon.

Tue May 01, 2007 6:22 am

Wasn't Axel, don't worry.

Tue May 01, 2007 6:32 am

Alright, good to know,

Tue May 01, 2007 6:57 am

I remember all those Heat fans, probably 1000 posters with wade/dwade/dwyane/flash/3, etc. in their usernames. Where are they now?

Tue May 01, 2007 7:16 am

Still here, only with a different username, possibly with gsw/warriors/baron or something related.

Tue May 01, 2007 9:50 am

not a true warriors fan and am not going to pretend to be one but for gods sake they better win the NBA championship, THE most exciting team to watch mos def...last night I was going crazy in the Mavs Warriors game 4...IT was intnense and people at school were annoyed with me repeating what happend in the last 2 minutes of the THIRD QTR! DID ANYONE SEE HOW MUCH OF A GOD BARON DAVIS IS, holy shit, he is...he is just Baron Davis, he has invented a new class of superstar...Makes first free throw, misses the next, rebound, makes crazy-ass lay-up, next poss. he drains the three, then insuing possesion swats Stackhouse then steals inbouns and dunks with time expiring... 8-)

Can someone translate the above post? Thanks.

Anyway, I still believe in Dallas. Yeah, they are down 3-1, but they are a 67-win team with Homecourt advantage. Golden State is 12-29 on the road, and I dont see the Mavs losing @ home again... I think Game 6 will be the decider, and hopefully, Dirk will get as few touches as possible.

I know a lot of bandwagoners, but while I usually root for the underdog, I'm not this time, not only because the Mavs are one of my favorite teams, but because Dallas is the only team that can beat San Antonio.

The Spurs winning the title is the Worst Possible scenario.

How rare is it for a team down 3-1 to go on to win the series? I really don't see a higher probability of that happening over a healthy 8th seeded team beating a 1st seed.

It happened: Last year: Lakers vs. Suns
It happened: 2003: Magic vs. Pistons

It happened... those are the only times I remember, but at least don't count the Mavs out quite yet...

I've been a Warriors fan, but never seen a GSW thread and didn't bother to start one up. Nothing much to say after season after season of disappointment and the only thing consistent about them was injuries. I supported them, but didn't care to watch most of their game because there was not much excitement with Davis and Richardson sitting out and Dunleavy leading the team. And Shaq is my favorite player so I followed Heat games more often.

I disagree. The road statistic is misleading. The first half of the season had a completely different team core, and the Warriors have played at a completely different level since mid to late march. The Warriors also dealt with many injuries throughout the first 3/4 of the year.

The Mavs record is also misleading as they had very few games missed to injury. Their most frequent lineup was used in 49 games, whereas the Warriors' was used in only 11 games. In fact, 49 games for the Mavs is significantly higher than any of the other top seeds (Phoenix - 41, Cleveland - 30, Utah - 47, Spurs - 23, Detroit - 24)

Dallas took advantage of the fact that they were not injured throughout the season. They are not leaps and bounds better than Golden State, and certainly not significantly better than the top seeds.

Tue May 01, 2007 2:12 pm

The matchup is the worst possible for Dallas. I don't care that they won 67 games, what was their record against GS in the regular season? Exactly.
Besides, Don Nelson knows the weaknesses of their best player.

Tue May 01, 2007 8:12 pm

What Dallas needs to do is get slashing. Try something else. Nowitzki needs to shoot 25 free throws a game. Harris should go try draw fouls on the other end and shed his flop tag. If things like that happens and Dallas wins, I'll shut up about last season (technically, I already have), even if Mavs lose in second round (if it's against Houston, I'll be bitter.)
