If i were the celtics i would go after Charlie Bell, very underrated. Good shooter, solid D, can play PG or SG. Though i would rather see him in a bucks uni next season. :D

Okay, how much money do the Celtics have left?? I know they got rid of a bunch of players, but with this big 3, I can't believe they would even try to go after Webber or Boykins now

Well they have their 5.5 Mid level exception. I think webber played for less then 2 mil for one season.

First sign will be former Nets player Eddie House http://www.nba.com/news/438112.html

Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:23 am

Well this is a good sign, but does it now eliminate their chances of signing Brevin Knight?

Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:27 am

i like this signing, i like it alot. house is exactly the kind of guy i thought the celtics needed, a player who can knock down the open when given the chance, and he will get plenty of chances. now i am by no means a house expert, so many some of you can help me and fill me in on the other areas of his game. first of all he is a 2 guard if i am not mistaken. has he played point before? can he run a point? i think in boston he can run the point as i see the ball in pierces hands anyway with the point just being a shooter.

also the celtics signed Jackie Manuel. not familiar with him at all. i checked his info page on nba.com and it looks like he has only played 4 games and that was for orlando. he someone who can help? i dont see them just signing crap just to sign them?

edit: i just wanna clarify, i think house could run the point as a back up, as in back up rondo and allen.

Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:54 am

Maybe Ray Allen will shift back to point guard, that's what he played at UCONN.

As far as I know, he's a SG/SF that brings in a lot of energy. I don't think he can shoot for shit but he's athletic and can drive to the hoop with authority.

All I've heard is that he is a solid wing defender. Other than that I've got no idea. But if he is a good defender, he would be a valuable asset off the bench.

Wow, I was just about to mention Eddie House because of perimeter shooting skills. Perfect pickup.

Sauru, to be honest I haven't seen that much of Eddie House over his career. I know he is not only a great shooter, but he can score from pretty much anywhere on the floor. He's probably one of the top 3 point shooters in the league. He's very quick, which makes up for his size a bit. I don't think he's usually capable of running point guard much, but he could with the big 3, considering the offence won't be run through him. I seem to remember him having quite a bit of trouble on defence though.

Jackie Manuel is a great defender and hustle guy. I think I remember him from that UNC team with Felton and May and they won a championship. Great leader.

Also, alot of talk that Ryan Gomes will be cut by Minny and resign with Boston. Gomes has no place in Minnesota amongst the Brewer/McCants/Foye/Davis group and we have seen things like this happen before. If Gomes is back, big move for the Celtics.

Yay! I've been stalking this thread for a long time, but too lazy to post...

Just like Shannon and Sauru mentioned, Eddie House is a great pick up for by the Celts. I think he can run the point but not most of the game, (I think he played point in his Sac days)...He's a streak shooter, one who does not hesitate to take the shot.

Also, is Mutombo a free agent? I can't think of any big man (Free Agents) right now that is left that is worth filling the C spot for the Celts...

Ok, I posted, so I'm not lazy anymore...

Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:26 am

mutombo is said to be the celtics number 1 choice at the 5 for a free agent pick up. now mutombo wont give up 30 minutes a game and will have to play backup, but even now when he is in the game he is effective. they are also looking at scott pollard it seems. he was big in sacremento but i have not heard a damn thing about him since those days.

Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:24 pm

A few months back Pollard looked into a TV camera and jokingly encouraged kids to use drugs. That's about the most noteworthy thing he's done as of late. Mutombo wouldn't be a bad pickup to fill in at centre for a few minutes a night.

Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:26 pm

It's hard to believe how effective Mutombo is, and he is very effective for a 40-year old. I remember when he was filling up the stats sheet when Yao was down last season.

real gm said they didnt want to sign knight, because of some locker room problems

Thu Aug 02, 2007 10:22 pm

they still have something like 3.8 left on thier exception so they could probably still land a big and another point. i assume after signing house thier main goal will be a big.

Is it too late to jump on the Celtics bandwagon? :)

Boston & NY will fight it out for the division lead.

Fri Aug 03, 2007 12:09 am

NY sucks
randolph will play for jail league soon

Fri Aug 03, 2007 1:01 am

As a Raptor fan... I'm mighty pissed.

I never thought I'd say this, but the Atlantic division is going to be really competitive this year.

No, they need help at the guard positions, they are stacked downlow.

Meh, if the Raptors are good as they are, then that extra experience and pressure would do them good.

Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:33 am

And the Raptors are as good as they are.
