Dwight's sticker dunk shoulda atleast got a 45 or above for how innovative it was. Damn judges, I was cracking up after I saw what he stuck up there on the replay (not to mention him smiling on the sticker  )

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:16 pm

Wow, Michael Jordan didn't judge very well. Dwight deserved at least 45 on his sticker slap. I didn't think that Green's final dunk was a 50, but they probably gave it all 10's knowing it was over.

Also, Kapono scoring 24 = Kapwnage!

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:17 pm

That was a shitty All-Star Saturday, imo. Too many parts were boring, and only maybe two dunks in the slam dunk was fun to watch (Green's first dunk and Dwight's sticker dunk)

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:19 pm

Anyone catch what the sticker said? None of the replays I saw were close enough to read it.

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:26 pm

It just had a picture of his face with 12'6" written next to it.

EDIT: I think one of the announcers lied to me.

The '4:15' makes me think it's a Bible reading ... which would go along with Howard and his strong religion. Something like 'All Things Through Christ! Phil: 4:15'? Phil: 4:15 is probably the Phillipians chapter 4 verse 15. Let's see what google says ...

Philippines 4:15 wrote:You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;

That can't be it ...

5000, eh? Well what do you know :) ...

wat does that actually say? My boys I predicted won hahaa kapono and green but didnt guess the right ppl for the shooting stars n skillz

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:38 pm

it says All things through Christ.

Strangely enough, my teacher says his brother hangs out with Dwight Howard and a few other people on a regular basis (they're from Florida). He says they do odd things play miniature golf, and bowling together.

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:39 pm

Oh, and I think it says Philippians 4:13

I love that Dwight sticker dunk. Nate was about to go for his dunk, but the commentators are still talking about the dunk

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:43 pm

yes i think dwight howard definitely got robbed. im not sure if it was bias judging, but more of unreasonable judging from mj and dr.j

Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:59 pm

I think Dwight was robbed, but on the other hand, I understand some of the scoring, most of the dunks weren't worth 10s (Gerald Green's final dunk wasn't a 10 though).

Sun Feb 18, 2007 3:40 pm

Tyrus Thomas second dunk was pretty sick, just the judges weren't going to let him win with his comments. Also, his first dunk was pitiful.

The best part of the All-Star Weekend was the race between Barkley and Bavetta! Come on that was classic. Did you see the effort by Bavetta? His knee got busted up on the dive at the end! That was hardcore man.

He was admittedly tough but at least he didn't change his score simply to force a tiebreaker round like another former Tar Heel we could mention.

Anyway, a few thoughts on All-Star Saturday...

Shooting Stars: Easily the sloppiest Shooting Stars contest in its brief history at the All-Star Weekend. From the clock stopping on one minute to Michael Cooper and George Gervin's threes to the atrocious times and Detroit winning on a technicality, an event that doesn't have much flare but it usually fun became a bit of a farce.

Skills Challenge: I was surprised to see Chris Paul finish last. Perhaps I put too much stock in him being the only point guard in the contest but I had picked him to win and figured he'd at least make the NBA Finals. I can't wait for the theories of how the NBA helped Wade win back to back to start coming out.

Barkley vs Bavetta: I was hoping Dick Bavetta would win. We won't hear the end of this for some time. Anyway, it was a bit of fun for a good cause and Bavetta was a good sport for doing it in the first place. Congrats to Sir Charles for making good on his promise.

Three Point Shootout: I was hoping we'd see the all-time record broken in the final round but tieing the final round record was impressive enough. I was a bit surprised by the shooting this year, on average the scores were good but there were quite a few ugly misses, more than you usually see in the contest. Usually there's one or two shots that elicit a cry of "Someone close the door/Someone left the door open" but I surprised by the amount of shots that missed badly. Still a very impressive shooting display as always.

Dunk Contest: Judging was pretty tough all around this year but this year's panel have certainly earned the right to be harsh critics. It was definitely a well-earned victory for Gerald Green as he really put on a show. The whole Nate Robinson cut-out being replaced by the real Nate Robinson business was great, a nice display of sportsmanship and an incredible dunk that admittedly should have been a 50. Nate had a couple of nice dunks as well though the plethora of attempts in the final round once again killed the suspense and the attempt that did go down was very anti-climactic. The contest could still be going if the time limit hadn't been put in place.

I guess I'm not as impressed with Dwight Howard's sticker dunk as other folks are. Sure, it was original and creative and showed great leaping ability but he is almost seven feet with an impressive wingspan. The dunk itself was fairly average which at the end of the day was what mattered most. The sticker was something different but the way he threw down the dunk wasn't anything that hasn't been done before. 45 probably would have been a fairer score but the action with the ball just wasn't creative enough in my opinion to warrant anything higher. Entertaining all the same.

All in all, for my money it was another enjoyable All-Star Saturday.

Sun Feb 18, 2007 3:59 pm

Green's first dunk deserved a 50

Sun Feb 18, 2007 4:00 pm

The Tyrus Thomas dunk over Ben Gordon was pretty nasty, but I still think that they should have replaced him after the idiotic comments he made to the public.

I wish I could have seen the entire contest, but unfortunately I was at work.

Sun Feb 18, 2007 4:03 pm

So much for the judges being so hyped up. They flat out didn't know what they were doing. Should have been Dwight instead of Nate in the finals. It was no surprise that Gerald Green won though.

Sun Feb 18, 2007 4:19 pm

I missed the final round of the shooting stars competition, how did Detroit win on a technicality?

Sun Feb 18, 2007 4:21 pm

Bavetta vs. Barkley was more entertaining than watching Nate dunk again and again and again...
Even the dance showdown between Shaq, Lebron, and Dwight during the East practice was more entertaining than that midget. Fuckin' Nate.

Dr. J should never be allowed to judge a dunk contest again. Never ever.

Just because they were harder to impress and didn't hand out tens left and right they didn't know what they were doing? That's not to say they were perfect but no panel of judges in the history of the competition has ever gone an entire contest without making at least one or two questionable decisions. There weren't too many complaints about MJ and Nique's judging in the 2003 contest.

Chicago finished with a quicker time but Ben Gordon attempted a shot out of order leading to a disqualification.

He's always been a good judge in the past.

Actually, I heard that Dwight is hardly 6'10 with shoes on.

Did anyone else feel that the allstar saturday was really boring other than the three point contest? Really imo the rookie challenge has been the best/most fun contest so far.

As for the Wade and NBA thing, the refs gave Wade the leather ball and gave Kobe the synthetic ball.
