Bah. Basketball is a team game. People should rather note how shameful the rest of the Lakers were only totaling 41 points. That's just .5 more than half of what Kobe scored. Especially Lamar Odom with his 1-7 shooting and Kwame with his 1-5. What were the Raptors doing? They should've put 3~4 guys on Kobe to prevent him from scoring so much. It's not like the Raptors ever really win anyhow, so why not just devote their energy on foiling Kobe.

First of all.. be polite please.. I like Kobe, i don't hate him. It's just my opinion about him. You don't have to say "Fuck Ya" pal...
My opinion is that he is one of the greatest scorers of the NBA history, as in example, Iverson is too. But for me.. this two players are as great as other players that make their teammates better.

I took a phone this morning to check mail and just clicked to sports just like any other day. First news was something like "Kobe...Lakers... 81" so I thought it was some kind of statistical number or something. An then I Saw.

 .

i don't believe it was. the thing is though (not taking anything away from d. rob), was that people were predicting something big happening that night. robinson and some guy (someone help me here) were neck and neck in the scoring race so they both had to pull off something huge the last night of the season to win the title. robinson beat out the other guy by the slightest margin. "other guy" also busted out a 50+ point game.

honestly, before tonights game i thought the raps were going to hold kobe under the 30. morris peterson is such an underrated defender it's not even funny, and he has the ability to take players out of their comfort zones; unfortunately for him though he couldn't stop number 8 tonight.

The other guy was Shaq.

81 points? Thats tremendous! Congrats to Kobe. But I dont think it was necessary. He shot over 50% from the field, and 90% from the line (18-20) Which is good, but hes a scorer nothing else. In my opinion hes One Dementional. He might get 6rpg and 5apg which is good. But those 5apg are probally passes he doesnt want to make. Paul Pierce finds people better than Kobe, TMac does, Arenas does, Wade does. Kobes a good defender too. But in my ponion hes a scorer and nothing else. He bitched at Odom for not scoring enough.....WHY IS THAT?? Because Kobe wants 40ppg

you didn't think it was necessary? did you watch the game last night? they were down by 19 and guys like odom and kwame brown couldn't do SHIT. they couldn't catch the ball, they couldn't stay in bounds, they couldn't maintain their balance, they couldn't do anything. luke walton couldn't hit an open jumper if his life depended on it -- plain and simple, the rest of the team (minus smush, i think) sucked last night. please don't judge his performance last night purely on a statistical standpoint, you had to watch the game to see the situation they were in.

WTF? Kobe told Odom that Odom wasn't scoring not enough because Kobe wants to score 40ppg himself? Lost you there, mate.

Noooo. I mean I dont think it was necessary to seriosuly get 81 points. He couldve done better things for sure. I mean I no Lamar had an off night, but other nights aswell. IDK maybe Phil said give Kobe the ball and watch? Congrats too him, but 81 points a LARGE, LARGE amount. I guess its cool since he shot 26-46? was it and 18-20 from the line. Why not he was hot last night why not feed him the ball......so yeah i guess whatever.

I really had to check twice if it's really Massachusetts where you are from. You don't speak English down there?

On topic: he HAD to score all those points. If he hadn't, they wouldn't have won. It's really that simple.

It's a historic game, without a doubt, but i don't see it being greater than Chamberlain's game. It's was a different game back then, but in Kobe's favor. The 3 point line, the new handcheck rule (which wasn't there for Jordan either) etc.. There's quite a few writers who thought Jordan could have surpassed 100 if he was born later when the handcheck rule was in and when 3 point shooting was a more basic skill taught in high school.

As for whether Wilt's feat took skill...according to clippings most of Wilt's points came off one-handed sweeping bank shot finger rolls around opposing center's arms. How many Centers in the NBA today can even attempt that shot?

There's also the fact that if Chamberlain was born when Kobe was born, he'd have NBA coaches and trainers from day 1 and been taking blood supplements, protein supplements, and god knows what other drugs athletes take nowadays. I know some drug companies make custom tailored packages per athlete now based on their blood tests.

It's an amazing performance, it's up there with the great ones but not THE best in NBA history, not when Jordan drops 63 on Bird's Celtics in the playoffs, arguably the best team in all NBA history. Until Kobe does this against Detroit/San Antonio in the playoffs, he won't get a call from Larry Bird dubbing him God in disguise.

Incredible.

But not a better performance than Jordan's 69 point game...Jordan had an all-around crazy statline...Kobe's was basically just points. I have to click around and find the box score from the 69 point game...

People, calm down. We all knew Kobe was an unstoppable scorer. Thing is, it's all he can do.

55 points in second half... Taking ALL THE SHOTS the team had. All of them.

Over here at the end of the sports bulletin on the news, they mentioned that he scored 81 etc and the ditzy news presenter woman goes "I actually knew that, tremendous effort"... which is basically the equivilent of someone stripping naked and running around in front of the camera. Very rare.

2nd Half score

Kobe- 55
Raptors 42

I still cant get over this.

Its funny how even though this guy had the world in awe last night, there are still those out there finding somethnig bad to say. "He shot the ball too much blah blah..." or "81 was great but Jordan's 69 in overtime against Cleveland was better." Have you seen a guy score 50 on only 5 shots? Would you have preferred he did 60 on 10? If Lebron did this I'm sure everyone would be sucking his toes but its not the same with this guy.
