I think Granger can take the SF spot without any problems. But he is known as being injury prone, so I would at least want a backup SF in return. And if Pacers were smart, they would trade Jackson along with Artest (together they would make enough salary to take one all-star player in return). He doesn't play hard on the defensive end and is known for being a chemistry breaker. But then again, Indy would know more about this situation.

I read somewhere that the top teams in which Artest is interested are Mavs, Cavs, Heat and - logically - Knicks.

Oooohh.. I'm sorry, but you struck a nerve there. Other then my newfound love for Sarunas, SJax is my favorite Pacer. To say he doesn't play hard on the defensive end is completely insane. Jack is the best defender on the team with Artest gone now, and he is MORE then capable of shutting down the other teams top scorer. When Ron wasn't in the game against the Cavs this year on Thanksgiving, Sjax was guarding LeBron- and shutting him down.

. Considering that Lebron played 43 minutes that night and Artest 37 and predicting that they were always in the game at the same time, that would leave six minutes of guarding LBJ for Jackson. And it's much, much easier to 'shut down' a player who has already been guarded by a defender of Artest's quality and has fallen out of the flow of the offence. Jackson is a mediocre defender at best.

That's funny, I always thought of SJax as a tenacious defender. Maybe I read too much of Indy's posts

Jackson is a capable defender and has the tools to be a good one but he's not top notch, let alone more capable then artest in "shutting down" a player

jackson is a scorer first by nature. and probably he will be thrusted into the guarding the opposition's best perimeter scorer unless the coaching staff believes granger is ready for that role

I'm surprised Nuggets aren't making a move for Artest, with Nene & Russell gone they lost both defense & offense and Artest brings both, and Karl is known for being very popular with players. Both Artest & Melo are versatile, i doubt finding 35 min for both would be difficult.

Melo & Artest & K-Mart? a whole lot of complaining.

Pacers Encouraged By Quality Of Trade Offers
16th December, 2005 - 7:32 pm
ESPN - Indiana Pacers president Donnie Walsh is "encouraged" by the quality of the offers he has received for Ron Artest, including what he said were at least two proposals involving All-Star caliber players.

Without being specific about any of the 12-15 offers he said he had received, Walsh told ESPN.com he had heard from 20 teams, some of which merely called to ask what Walsh was looking for. Walsh said he was planning to get back to three of those teams to make specific requests.

"I've talked to a lot of teams, discussed myriad types of offers. Some are player for player, some involve first-round draft picks, some involve savings, some involve a combination of those things," Walsh said. "I'm encouraged by some of the things we were offered."

He would not set a timetable for trading Artest, though he did concede: "I'd like to get it behind us, but I don't feel any [time] pressure to do it. I'd like to winnow it down to two or three deals I'd like to do."

Artest has been placed on the inactive list and told to stay away from the team while Walsh fields trade offers. Artest's agent said he expects a trade to be completed by the end of the week. On Friday, Walsh told ESPN's Steven A. Smith that the Pacers will keep Artest on the inactive list for the rest of the season if they are unable to trade their disgruntled All Star. In that case, Artest would still receive his full salary.

Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird is in Spain on a scouting trip and has been receiving daily updates from Walsh over the telephone. Bird has made no plans to shorten his trip, Walsh said.

In the five days since Artest asked for a trade, saying he felt restricted in Rick Carlisle's offense, the rest of the Pacers have distanced themselves from him. Jermaine O'Neal said he'd like to see the Pacers acquire Bonzi Wells or Al Harrington for Artest.

Many league executives say Artest might only be a good fit for a coach with a proven track record of working well with players needing extra guidance. Three that fit that mold include Phil Jackson of the Lakers, Pat Riley of Miami and Larry Brown of the Knicks.

The Lakers were said by several sources to be one of the teams most interested in Artest, though not to the point where they'd consider trading Lamar Odom. The Heat could trade Antoine Walker, whose salary is almost an exact match for Artest's, while Knicks president Isiah Thomas' refusal to discuss Channing Frye has taken New York out of the running.

"I'm assuming I can't get a guy as good as [Artest]," Walsh said, adding that he had no preference for trading Artest to a Western Conference team rather than one from the East. "We're just going through the process to get to a point where we can choose something we like."

hm, I was thinking an Artest + big man for Al Harrington and one of the Joshes, or something that fills up 'Lanta's cap space..

But why would they do that :?:

Sat Dec 17, 2005 6:40 pm

Dunno, it is Atlanta.

Sat Dec 17, 2005 6:43 pm

Artest for Zach Randolph then 8-)

Sat Dec 17, 2005 7:07 pm

at least two proposals involving All-Star caliber players.

I stil think it's Rashard and Peja. (Was Lewis an all-star? I can't remember)

Lewis was an all-star last year. Yup.

Sun Dec 18, 2005 2:55 am

Artest to Atlanta? don't think so, he'll corrupt the young guys.

Artest for Walker? Please, Indiana would get RAPED on this deal bad. They are a stage where they can win...nows not the time to get expiring contracts, but instead guys that can help them win now.

Sun Dec 18, 2005 4:40 am

Peja wasnt an all star last year and hes not really playing at an allstar calibur

Or Kobe for Artest =)

I'm just curious, I know you live in another country, so I don't know how often you are actually able to watch the NBA, but, how do you watch the Pacers play? Do you just see the games on National TV? Is there a station out there that brodcasts extra games or something?

I'm just wondering, because anybody who has actually seen Jax play more then a few times a year wouldn't say anything nearly that stupid.

Sun Dec 18, 2005 6:39 am

I've always seex Jax as a solid defender. Above average definately (Y)

And CB4, Peja is one of the names that's rumored in this trade. He was an Allstar :P I know he's not playing like one, but still

Trenton Hassell>>Stephen Jackson

Sun Dec 18, 2005 7:45 am

^^ In defense.
Offense
Steph Jackson >>>>> Hassell

Sun Dec 18, 2005 8:47 am

and overall value wise steph jackson >>> hassell

Sun Dec 18, 2005 9:04 am

I like Jax , but he is sort of a ballhog some games . The few games I've seen him play hes hogged the ball.

Hassell has an offensive game, he can shoot and he attacks the basket and finishes. He is just a little gun shy. Him and Shawn Marion were on the same high school team and it's Trenton Hassell who is the schools' all time leading scorer.

Hassell averaged 20ppg in college and he was more known for his offense. But Hassell is underrated and it's cool.

I think the lakers could really use artest....brown helped out the lakers problem with PF so that odom could go to SF but brown has been hurt and hasnt really been that key player the lakers were looking for....

I'm guessing he's not going to LA after his next brilliant public interview:

"Artest spoke with WIBC's Vince Welch and admitted he might have handled the situation poorly, RTV6's Wil Hampton reported.

Artest said some of the criticism he has received has been unfair. Former NBA great Magic Johnson said Artest doesn't deserve a second chance in the NBA.

"It's like saying, 'Magic, should your wife give you another chance?'" Artest said "He's saying Ron Artest should have no more second chances. What's worse -- me saying I want to be traded or you cheating on your wife?"

Matt wrote:Melo & Artest & K-Mart? a whole lot of complaining.

True true...but it looks like they're going for it anyway:

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... ut_artest/

"Yet NBA front-office sources tell ESPN.com that Denver is pursuing Ron Artest as hard as anyone, and here's an explanation: If you want to narrow the gap with West powerhouse San Antonio, acquiring Artest to counter Manu Ginobili isn't a bad idea ... assuming, of course, that Artest is actually playing as opposed to doing or saying things that get him suspended.

The Nuggets also have a coach who, a bit like Artest, is known for his eccentricities. Although my old studio-show colleague George Karl probably won't appreciate being lumped into the same sentence with Ron-Ron, I could see them co-existing.

It would certainly be volatile, probably wilder than Furious George and Gary Payton in Seattle, but it's a pairing with potential, as is Carmelo Anthony and Artest"

I stil think it's Rashard and Peja. (Was Lewis an all-star? I can't remember)

News rumors had Seattle offering Radmanovic & Murray, not Rashard. It's tough to believe Walker would give up their future for a gamble on Artest because Fortson's chemistry issues alone were too much for Seattle last year, and he ended up being rarely used...and Artest is on another planet than Fortson.

Not to mention Rashard gave quotes to the news about playing with Artest, not moving to Indiana.

As the old saying goes, "Making friends and influencing people." Bit of a low comment even if it does raise an interesting point, that being Magic never seems to cop the same flak for his infidelity that other athletes and celebrities do. Nevertheless, I think Artest needs to cool it. There's speaking your mind and there's saying whatever comes into your head.
