when will bryant lead a team to the championship?

Where have you been the last 3 seasons? Shaq hasn't done it all by himself. Just like Jordan didn't.

LMAO!

Let me ask you this: what is the lakers record without bryant? and what is the lakers record without shaq? then check, what was the bulls record during their championship years without pippen? (half the entire 97-98 season included)

Shaq has won 3 finals MVPs, MJ has won 6. Bryant has won zero. The leader of the team is the one that wins the finals MVP and you know that.

We aren't talking about the Lakers records with or without Shaq and Kobe, we are talking about Kobe leading the Lakers to a championship and that is what he has done for the last 3 seasons. Sure Shaq was there, but Kobe is just as much the leader of the Lakers as he is.

MJ scored 4 points in overtime, but the Wizards as a team only scored 10 points, so thats 40% for MJ. MJ only averaged about 32% of Chicago's points when he played for the Bulls. So 4 is alot.

I wasn't talking only about the points...

Michael Jordan has just defeated the Knicks at the Garden with 23 points and 10 rebounds despite continuing to suffer with a stomach virus. MJ has now recorded 4 double-doubles in his last 5 games.

Yeah right...you keep thinking that...Kobe is the Pippen of the team...not the Jordan...though I'll admit that Kobe carries a heavier load, he isn't still the secondary scorer...Neither Shaq nore Kobe could win a championshit without eachother but by what we saw at the beginning of the year, the Lakers would be a below .500 team with just Kobe...there will be no next Jordan...Kobe doesn't compare seeing that his team relies on Shaq much more than him

I don't think Kobe is trying in any way to be the next Jordan, sure Jordan is great but it took him 7 or 8 years to get his team to a championship, specially when Detroit & Celtics were the owners of the East. However, you guys are right, Kobe has done it with Shaq there but I believe Jordan wouldn't have done it without Pippen and Grant. After his first retirement, Jordan came back to a powerful team so I don't think I have to mention the players he needed to win.

Yeah, but actually, i think Shaq could win the championship without Bryant. Last season the Lakers were cruising when Bryant missed all those games. Or you could at least replace Bryant with someone like Jason Terry and the Lakers could still win the title i think. Shaq don't need an all-star on his team to do it. Whereas Bryant would struggle to lead the team to .500 without Shaq. Bryant doesn't have the leadership skills of Jordan and Shaq. As for comparing Bryant and Jordan, if Bryant retires with zero finals mvps he will not even be declared any better than Joe Dumars let alone Michael Jordan or any of the other NBA greats.

I Agree, but he doesn't need to win an MVP or Finals MVP to be considered one of the greatest. Of course it is difficult but watching him playing, I think it will be easy for him to get to the hall of fame without an MVP award in his hands. I believe there are just few, but they have done it.

Stats Update: MJ needs just 118 more points to pass Wilt Chamberlain for third in total career points. At his current pace, that will most likely occur in 7 games time (vs the Timberwolves). If he has a couple of big games, the milestone might come during the next game against the Bulls.

yeah, but there is a good chance you will never see that better player in your lifetime, since the NBA went many decades before we saw Jordan, so many decades may go by before we see a player better than Jordan. It will probably be something to do with genetic engineering.

At the moment he's not the best player on his team...and it's debatable that he's the best player of NBA history...Wilt, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell...too bad the guy that averaged a triple double wasn't hyped and didn't wear Nike's...

yeah, but there is a good chance you will never see that better player in your lifetime

I think Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady have eclipsed Jordan talentwise. They just need the rings now. *shrug*

since the NBA went many decades before we saw Jordan,

Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, John Stockton...these players, and many more, were just as good as Jordan; they just weren't as athletic (in some cases) and they weren't as commercialized and so on. You act like there was no talent whatsoever in the NBA before Jordan...Jordan and Nique made the slam dunk even more popular, and it's not like that was a wonderful thing for the league...

so many decades may go by before we see a player better than Jordan.

Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, and Vince Carter (if he's ever healthy) have not hit their peaks yet, and they're just as athletic, if not more so, just as good on offense, as Jordan ever was. Jordan will be eclipsed if people just let him go...it's one man, and there are already players who are better than him. Many of them, actually...but you'll call me a "Jordan hater"...whatever...

It will probably be something to do with genetic engineering.

What the...? Where's the relevance? Jordan's talent will be surpassed, in the next 5 years, perhaps sooner - mark my word. Now, if only you would just stop jocking him. He was a great player, but now he's just a good player who should have stayed retired. Jordan is done.

I think that's one of the reason he would be named the greatest basketball ever. It's that he can always show more than his talent. He would make something happen on the basketball court when most people think he couldn't.

I think that Jordan, aged 30, versus McGrady or Kobe now, on 1 on 1, would have been great to see......He would have kicked their ass, for both of them...
W/o any problems...
