Well, there you have it. Lakers come back from 0-2 to advance to the Western Conference Finals, avenging last year's defeat.

Boxscore

Seems like Karl Malone took a backseat in this one, with GP having a fine game. Nice numbers for Kobe and Shaq. Looks like Duncan was the only starter for the Spurs that had a decent game, though Horry, Brown and Ginobili played well off the bench.

Duncan's game was decent but was very very tough. Pretty much every shot was contested..Lakers Defense won them this series.

LAKERS ARE IN!

Oh yeah! Kobe and Shaq played pretty good...and the defence did the trick for the Lakers. If they had played defence on Parker the whole series....it could have been shorter...but anyway- congratulations to Tim Duncan for trying to carry his team. And to the Lakers: It's good for us cause we have just passed another obsticle!

This is great...I think that it is better for the whole team cause at least half the team will be back next season because of this series...if we win that ring...the whole team will be back (Or most of it)

NEXT UP: Minnesota (I'd like the Lakers to play them)

congratz to the lakers on the most improbable come from behind victory. The atmosphere here in LA is awesome right now. When fisher hit that shot the other day, there were people literally running out in the streets screaming with joy. lol i was one of them.

anyways, i had a few comments about today's game.
on tnt, i noticed that steve kerr, the commentator, never said anything when the lakers scored. but when the spurs scored, he was praising the spur players all the time. in fact, he didnt say anything about any laker throughout the whole game. so i think he was totally biased in this game.

i also thought what kevin willis did to kobe and karl was a cheap shot ... that was not necessary ... and the hack-a-shaq method was not class act. I was very surprised that Pop would allow that. Anyways, the big fella' knocked down the free throws when it counted the most.

Anyways, i'm just overjoyed with happiness right now. I can't believe we just beat the spurs 4 straight times. And the 0.4 shot was a classic! I will never forget it.

YAY!

Well, here I am, on with the gloating. :D

Well, first off Congratulations to the Lakers, they've become only the eighth team in NBA history to come back and win it being down 0-2. :applaud:

I would like to thank Robert Horry for his constant misses, he shows loyalty towards LA till today. :P (J/K Rob.)

I would also like to thank Derek Fisher, he's helped the Lakers get to where they are right now.

What a game, what a game. As said by others, the Lakers defense got them this win. San Antonio was a good opponent, they tried...but high % shot they got, was almost always contested. Even Shaq was running around. :o

The shots that were open, mostly three's and long two's, were just not falling for the Spurs. Shaq did a nice job of clogging up the paint, 5 swatted shots, not too shabby.

Malone did a stellar job of defense on Duncan, but it was the team effort on Duncan that kept him at bay.

George has been playing great, making important shots, anything he contributes is just a plus for this team. He's got hops, for rebounding at least.

Bryant seemed tired, but none the less, playoffs adrenaline rush is something all great players can feed off of. Kobe was going pure on adrenaline, what a dunk that last one, eh Seb?

Payton, as usual, did a good job on trying to contain Parker, but again...team effort was also a big factor here. He made a sweet layup in the third quarter.

Oh, what a beautiful play by Bryant, that weird looking reverse/layup alley oop. (Y)

Play of the series, naturally, goes to Derek Fisher. Props kid, good playing. :applaud:

What's with Steve Kerr? Is he sleeping with Devin Brown or something? Sheesh, every good thing that happened was somehow linked to Brown, sure he played great...but calm down Kerr. :?

Beating the NBA Champions, what could be better than that? Oh, beating the Kings. As much as I like Kevin Garnett, I detest the Kings more, so yes, I would like a re-match just to establish which team is better, LA or SAC. On to the Western Conference Finals.

Now, on to the bet. The big bad bet.

I would like to say I'm sowwy to Limp, Magius and DipSet VC. I won't say you'll be missed, because I don't know if you will be. Well, maybe you Magius. Oh alright, I wuv you too Limp.

i'm willing to put my membership on the line with any laker fan on this forum that the spurs will defeat the lakers, assuming the lakers do advance to the conference semifinals

please, do not be shy to take my invitation. aren't some people getting sick of hearing bulls/anti-laker talk and want to get rid of "mr. basketball"?

Yes, we are, so as that weakest link lady would say, G'bye.

yippee! 2 so far that will be gone from this forum or at least comeback with a new nickname

Are you talking about yourself and someone else? In this case, there are three of you that will probably pull this stunt.

what better way to show your support for your team by taking on the challenge? or are you all just, dare i say, scared that the lakers will lose?

Nopes, we did it, now be gone.

*if your selection loses the series, pack your bags and start looking for another nba live forum because you just lost your beloved nlsc membership.

***bonus: for the daring only- you can choose to include your membership to the nbalive.org forum in the wager as well. i will place *** next to the names who choose this option

To think, you guys...actually thought the Spurs would win. :o

yes but we can finally start to have intelligent, unbiased basketball conversations

Guess you won't have any of that on this forum since you're leaving.

Let's not begin with biasedness. Let's talk about leaaaving.

I won't even comment this. Fanatism.

Good to have fanatism, I guess. (Y)

All in all, thanks for competing, and to those who lost, thanks for leaving.

I'm so happy that the Spurs are gone.

That means we don't have to hear about how great Ginobili and Tony Parker are anymore. It was getting very annoying.

Im very happy that the spurs got knocked out for 3 reasons -

1- We dont have to watch a boring Finals this year

2- Minesotta Vs Lakers is gonna be one hell of a series.. Even if Sac wins, its gonna be an ok series.

3- My eye doesnt have to deal with the black and white jerseys anymore ;)

First of all this one for Psycho Jackal.

Amen. very well said!!!

That game was really great we prepare for that kill while the spurs wait and wait for the result of their protest. the fab four were great doing what they have to do. not just scoring but also hustling, defense and teamwork.

and still the hack-a-shaq proved to be a stupid strategy coz whenever you challege a player name shaq he will proved he will beat you.

kobe for being the main man for the series but now have more confidence for his teammate with his passing. and having the will and passion for the game amidst all the off and on court issue.

payton and malone proved that they dont just came to LA to piggy back riding Kobe and Shaq.

Fisher and Rush for some shooting as well george.

Im so very very happy coz lakers win the series and i still have my membership in this forum and i like to have a permission to all moderators.
Just one more time i'l sing and anyone who want to sing with... here we go

I remember, during game 5, 1 of the announcers said (I think it was Doc Rivers) something about fans complaining about the time the games are being played or something, that in some places the games start to late, and at other places the game starts to early.....let me say this.

STOP THE FREAKING WINING!!!

Whenever I want to see a Lakers game here in the Netherlands, I have to get up at 04:30 in the morning assuming the most Lakers games are played on 10:30, last night I didnt start sleeping untill 10:00 in the morning because of the game, yes....Im tired as hell right now and my day and night rhythm is all messed up, but I dont care...and these crybabies are crying because they cant stay awake for 3 more hours or something....Geez

On the game, I really thought the Spurs would play more focussed and more intense, with the series on the line...but oh well, they proved me wrong once again.

The only player who showed up for the Spurs and wanted to win a game was Devin Brown, but you need a whole team to act the same if you want to win a game, not a second year benchplayer.

Kobe didnt really attack the rim as he used to in both game 3 and 4, but this might had to do as Psycho mentiond with his fatique, which was not great after game 5. He did had the energy in him with 1 minute and 30 seconds to go to throw 1 down over Tim Ducan (Flashback from 2002 Timmy?...and yes swa I saw it :P ). I hope he will be back in attack mode in the Western Conference finals, I like his game alot more when he goes inside and either finding the open guy, or take a short distance shot, or even draw the foul.

Also, Devean George has finally woke up from his coma. He made 2 threes to give the Lakers the lead, and showed alot of emotion and hustle, specially in the rebounding. Its always nice to have a player who is able to step up and make the open jumper which is created by players going inside, I hope he found is confidence back, and that he will pick up his game in game 1 where he left it.

Also, Shaq actually gave effort to get the rebounds, you can clearly see the difference when he actually want the rebound badly instead of just jumping with your hands in the air hoping you get a rebound. A funny example of his and Kobes effort was somwhere in the first quarter, where I think Turkoglu shot a airball and both Shaq and Kobe got the rebound and were fighting for it, and then they both lost the ball out of bounds, maybe a turnover....but still, they showed some hustle that they both wanted to get the board.

Still they gave the Spurs way to many offensive rebounds, created mainly by Tim Duncans height atvantage, he was just tipping the ball over his defender all the time...mostly Malone, but I dont blame him, I know hes not the most athletic player in the league with crazy hops. I blame the team for not boxing out good enough, Duncan shouldnt be able to jump towards the ball in the first place.

Also, I want the Lakers to defend he 3-point line better when they will play the Kings or the Timberwolves, because players like Peja, Christie, Bibby, Cassell and Sprewell will make these open shots that Bruce Bowen, Gino, Turky and Parker missed.

It was a hell of a series, and Im glad it turned out this way :D

Also, RIP Limp, VC and Magius :(

lakers got away from the triangle offense which helped them..
lakers doubled & tripled Tim Duncan and clogged the middle when parker drovand pretty much said "Lets see you make some 3's" which the spurs didn't.
If they face the Kings I know Peja would love to have them open 3's :)

sorry to tell but i think wolves will be the team they will face. plus if ever the kings advance i think they will have different offensive and defensive strategy.

i really like lakers to face the wolves to have a somewhat new rivalry. i hate the lakers-kings rivarly coz even it has a great series at hte end of all it just a one sided rivalry with lakers as the top team. and also lets give the MVP some credit but not a trophy!!!

I'd like to apologize to Laker fans as my prediction has to be ranked among one of the worst predictions ever made on this board (Along with paul_pierce_the_truth, who predicted that Paul Pierce would win the MVP and sliccat who predicted that the Sixers would make it to the Finals.)
