?????????????

name 5 players that can stop shaq

no wait name 3!

i can only think of 1, ben wallace on a very good day
in the last meeting shaq had 35 pts and 14 reb
i think anyone who puts up numbers like that against big ben should get some credit for mvp

shaq is just 2 big and 2 strong for any nba player to handle one on one.
i think the key to stopping the lakers is to shut down the role players, contain kobe and throw as many double and triple teams at shaq as you can

Guarding a player and stopping a player are two totally different things. All of those guys you mentioned Dan could guard Shaq, but none of them have a chance of stopping him.

He may have meant true one on one...the little guys and the athletic guys would kill Shaq because they're quicker than him and have range, plus they'd probably be able to steal the ball...

Shaq would have to get the ball within his range in order to do anything in that situation...

no they still wouldnt, maybe the taller better defender guards eg. t-mac,kobe,artest etc. but the rest would not have a chnace in one-on-one, he'd just post up and back his way all the way down to the key, and BLAM!

he'd over power them still

Umm, no they wouldn't. Shaq parks himself on either side of the lane and waits for the entry pass. Once he gets it, NOONE will stop him. The big guys have shown they can't do it, and no coach is stupid enough to put a guard or small forward on him. They can't stop him from posting up, and they can't stop him once he is posted up. The "little guys and athletic guys" would be killed by Shaq. What does range have to do with guarding someone?

i agree that this is what Dan Gadzuric means!

as for the mvp thing, some times ago i said kobe will definitely win it, but well, KG seems to be an alien after the all star break
i think it would be very interesting before the announcement of MVP cos no one could guarantee who would be the MVP!

Would he be able to stop them? He has to come out and check the ball, and if he just backed into the lane they'd get a wide open shot...they would have more of a chance to stop him than he them because the ball gets checked behind the three point line...Shaq crossing over a guard with quick hands? I'd like to see it...

Quote the rest of my post...TRUE ONE ON ONE...ie no one else on the team...so he wouldn't get an entry pass. Read before you reply...

im just wondering what makes payton such a good leader??

you dont guard shaq... you make him work on defense. Probably tim duncan is the closest thing to even hoping of dimnishing him or tiring him.

for that matter, why dont the lakers just dump it into shaqs hand EVERY possession?? who needs kobe? whenever shaq has his hands on the ball good things happen, defenses swarm, holes open up, passing lanes are free. It really defeats me why they just dont throw it into him 100% of the time. ben wallace cant guard shaq for squat, he's 6'9 for gods sake. Olajuwan was the only one who could do it - but then shaq got fat and was too much to handle. Who knows though, maybe olajuwan could've guarded present day shaq when olajuwan was in his prime. We'll never know.

Why bother talking about them playing one on one. it's not going to happen. I thought he was talking man on man defense.
Even if we are talking about a one on one game, it would be pretty easy to score on Shaq because he doesn't like to leave the key, but he is going to score on them just as easy. Shaq has enough dribbling skills to drive from the perimeter.

Again...read the rest of my post....that's how Dan's list of players who can guard Shaq could be interpretted...because it'd be a lot easier for them to guard Shaq than it would be for Shaq to guard them simply because their ranged play....but...since thinking outside of the box is discouraged here, I'll just leave my insight at home and just agree with EVERYTHING you say....

Because if they did the same thing every possession, the defense would wise up to it and could position a player to intercept the pass before it got to Shaq. Also, Shaq doesn't play 48 minutes a game, they need to have other options and other plans.

who needs kobe?

the lakers, and shaq. Kobe is in the Lakers for his ability to attack the basket, and if Shaq gets double-teamed, Kobe cut to the rim and Shaq pass him the ball, and Kobe finish with a dunk, layup, etc.

for that matter, why dont the lakers just dump it into shaqs hand EVERY possession??

because the other team could put 2 defenders on shaq, and kobe gets angry :D
